Reincarnated as the Villain: The System Made Me Overpowered

Chapter 87: The Ruins of the Capital Tombs

The ruins of the Capital Tombs had gone still—eerily still. Wind no longer howled, the sky no longer cracked, and the Gate that once screamed with otherworldly voices had sealed shut, leaving only scorched stone and echoing silence.

Valerian stood at the center of it all, chest rising and falling in labored breaths. His clothes were torn and soaked with blood—some of it his, some of it not. The blade he’d forged from the system’s root code now hovered beside him, humming with residual energy. It didn’t gleam like metal; it pulsed like a heart.

Kael leaned against a shattered pillar nearby, half-conscious, lips curled into a bitter grin.

"Tell me you killed him for real this time."

Valerian didn’t answer. His eyes were locked on the place where Alex—his other self—had vanished. Ash still floated there like snow. And within the ash... a whisper remained.

The whisper grew louder, more insistent. Not words, but something deeper—a recognition that clawed at the edges of Valerian’s consciousness. He pressed his palm against his temple, feeling the familiar burn of the Umbra Protocol fighting something foreign in his mind.

"You hear it too," he said quietly.

Selene approached slowly, her expression haunted, her steps cautious. In her arms, Seraphina stirred but did not awaken. Her pulse was faint. Her skin pale. The Primordial Core had stopped growing, but it hadn’t disappeared. Instead, it had crystallized into something resembling a translucent egg, warm to the touch and pulsing with its own rhythm.

"She’s alive," Selene said softly, "but something inside her... it’s still watching."

Valerian turned to her, voice low. "It was never about one vessel. Alex planted more than one seed."

The words hung in the air like a curse. Seraphina’s eyes fluttered open—not her usual warm brown, but a shifting kaleidoscope of colors that hurt to look at directly. When she spoke, her voice carried harmonics that shouldn’t exist.
