Reincarnated as the Villain: The System Made Me Overpowered

Chapter 86: The Storm That Never Passed

The storm had not passed.

The skies bled red across the entire horizon, a wound that stretched from the Capital Tombs to the distant mountains. The torn remnants of reality above them remained stretched open like a gaping maw that refused to close. The Gate was still ajar—and the eye behind it pulsed with slow, deliberate blinks, as if watching... waiting... *learning*.

Valerian stood with his back to the Gate, his cloak fluttering in the unnatural winds that carried whispers of dead languages. His body trembled—not from weakness, but from the remnants of the force he had just expelled. Umbra’s essence had not gone quietly. It clawed at his soul even now, like a ghost resentful of its banishment, leaving scratches of darkness across his consciousness.

Behind him, Selene knelt beside Seraphina, whose body had fallen limp moments earlier. Blood smeared the ancient stone around her in intricate patterns that seemed almost deliberate, yet she was still breathing—barely. Each breath came in shallow gasps, her chest rising and falling with mechanical precision.

Kael stood guard at the edge of the ruined dais, scanning the crumbling abyss surrounding them. The void below churned with shapes that defied comprehension—fragments of broken realities, echoes of worlds that had never been. "We need to get out of here. Now. The Gate’s still draining the world. I can feel it pulling at my soul."

Lira’s hands hovered over Seraphina’s abdomen, her fingers trembling as emerald light poured from her palms. Her eyes glowed with an otherworldly radiance as her spell revealed the truth beneath the surface. What she saw made her stomach turn.

"I can’t... I can’t stop it," she said, voice cracking. "There’s something inside her. Something ancient. Something that doesn’t belong to this reality."

Selene looked up sharply, her face pale. "What do you mean? What kind of something?"

Lira’s throat tightened as she probed deeper, her magic recoiling from what it found. "She’s been seeded. With a Primordial Core. Not just a parasite or possession—this is... a living code. It’s rewriting her from the inside, cell by cell, thought by thought."

Valerian’s heart stopped. He turned slowly, his eyes wide with horror. "You’re saying she’s a vessel."

Lira nodded slowly, her face ashen. "Not just for power. For him. For the Architect. The core isn’t just sustaining her—it’s transforming her into something else. Something that can contain his full essence."

The name hung heavy in the air like a death sentence.
