Chapter 99: God David? That's the Past Tense
Sinbad stared at Lucian, processing the sheer audacity of the statement. "You plan to capture a god? And then usurp the Sacred Palace?"
"I have no interest in ruling your fish tank," Lucian replied, shaking his head. "But I do require the energy and the foundational laws governing this dimension. Leaving Ugo in charge is fine, provided he cooperates. Leaving David in play, however, is a massive liability."
Sinbad let out a low, bitter chuckle. "World peace via a single, unified will. That was my grand solution. But hearing you tear it down so easily... it makes me sound like a tyrant."
"Your goal is peace, but your method is absolute stagnation," Lucian countered bluntly. "Overwriting the Rukh to force everyone to share your exact ideology isn't unity. It's mass brainwashing. You'd be turning humanity into a sea of puppets. It's essentially an Infinite Tsukuyomi—a perfect, painless dream where free will ceases to exist."
"Humanity's strength lies in its diversity, its chaos, its ability to clash and ultimately evolve. Stripping that away just to prevent tragedy fundamentally destroys what makes them human."
Sinbad looked away, his jaw tight. Deep down, a part of him had always known the horrific cost of his ultimate plan. But the crushing weight of his responsibilities, the endless cycle of hatred he had witnessed, had convinced him it was a necessary evil.
"If my destiny was manipulated from the start," Sinbad muttered, looking back at Lucian. "If David is truly guiding my actions... how do I fight a god that already knows my every move? He claims to have seen the future. He knows I will break into the Sacred Palace."
"Destiny manipulation only works on those bound by the rules of this specific world," Lucian said, his eyes glowing with a faint, ethereal light. "David saw a future based on the variables existing within his fish tank. But I am an entirely foreign variable. I operate completely outside his jurisdiction."
Sinbad's eyes widened. "You can overwrite destiny?"
"I don't just overwrite it," Lucian stated, his voice ringing with absolute, undeniable authority. "I crush it."
Suddenly, a voice echoed, not in the physical air, but directly within their minds. It was a voice dripping with ancient arrogance and sudden, creeping panic.
"Who are you?!"
Sinbad flinched, clutching his chest as the voice of David Jehoahaz Abraham reverberated violently within his own soul.
"This isn't right! You weren't in the flow! You weren't in the future I saw!" David's voice grew frantic.
"The God, David?" Lucian tilted his head, a cold, mocking smile forming on his lips. "That title is strictly in the past tense."
Sinbad looked at Lucian, the last remnants of his doubt evaporating. "Can you really pull him out?"
"I don't need your permission, but I appreciate the cooperation," Lucian replied.
"Do it," Sinbad commanded, his golden eyes blazing with fierce determination. "I will not be a pawn in someone else's game."
