According to the original story's lore, it took a second blast of Alfia's magic to finally slay the Leviathan.
The Behemoth, however, had survived two direct hits. It was only when Alfia's negative skill triggered, leaving her powerless to continue fighting, that Zald stepped in to finish the beast off.
This was enough to prove that the Behemoth and the Leviathan were on the exact same tier.
The Black Dragon from a thousand years ago was likely around that level as well, merely possessing the added tactical advantage of dominating the skies.
The King of the Land, the Behemoth.
The Ruler of the Sea, the Leviathan.
The King of the Sky, the One-Eyed Black Dragon.
Three distinct types of dragon-species monsters ruling the land, sea, and sky. There was no real disparity in their raw strength, only a difference in their elemental natures and domains.
That was until Albert's party faced off against the Black Dragon. Although they managed to gouge out one of its eyes, the Great Spirit Aria was devoured in the process, resulting in the present-day Black Dragon mutating into an entity far surpassing Level 10.
"Level 10, huh..." Lucian mused. "I plan on isolating the Three Great Quests into a dedicated map to serve as an instance dungeon."
Hearing Lucian mention the Three Great Quests, Ais's expression immediately tightened, and her fists clenched.
"Will this be used for trials and harvesting Excellia?" Alfia asked. "But I've already subjugated the Behemoth. How will you extract the necessary data to build it?"
"By extracting the Singularity points directly from your memories and recreating them within the map."
Lucian explained, "The essence of this function relies on causality and conceptualization. It can flawlessly replicate the battlefield from that exact moment in time."
Lucian brought up the system interface for Alfia and gestured toward it. "You can take the lead on creating the maps for the Behemoth and the Leviathan."
"Understood."
Alfia selected the function and closed her eyes.
Instantly, her memories surfaced, projecting perfectly into the newly formed map.
The only things present in this map were a massive oasis and the Behemoth, whose entire body constantly emitted deadly toxins.
With just a few minor adjustments, the instance map was complete.
The list of accessible open maps updated accordingly:
Divine Court.
Colosseum.
Random Labyrinth.
Danmachi World: Three Great Quests (Incomplete).
"Lucian, I want to challenge the Behemoth."
Ais turned around, gripping Lucian's sleeve firmly as she stared straight into his eyes.
"Even knowing you can't win?" Lucian countered.
"I still want to try," Ais insisted stubbornly.
"Then go right ahead."
Lucian wasn't particularly bothered. He snapped his fingers, teleporting Ais directly into the map. He then conjured a divine mirror for broadcasting, streaming the live feed of the instance map back to them.
"Are you serious?" Alfia asked, thoroughly exasperated.
"Ais is a little too headstrong for her own good. Letting her experience the gap in power firsthand isn't a bad thing," Lucian replied calmly. "Besides, it'll be an instant kill. She won't feel a shred of pain."
Hearing this, the others felt a pang of anxiety.
However, since Lucian had already made the call, they couldn't argue. They could only stare nervously at the projection before them.
A countdown timer ticked down during the prep phase. The exact second it hit zero, the invisible barrier vanished.
The Behemoth's massive eyes locked directly onto Ais. In the next instant, a suffocating deluge of toxins swept through the air. The vibrant, life-filled oasis withered in a flash, turning into a barren desert.
Ais could only watch helplessly as the toxic gas engulfed her like a raging sandstorm.
Because she lacked the Abnormal Resistance skill, she suffocated within two short seconds, her body dissolving into mere bleached bones.
With a flash of light, Ais was teleported back in her True Form.
Snap. Lucian flicked his fingers, and Ais's True Form hit the ground, fully resurrected in the same breath.
"How was it?"
Lucian pulled Ais back into his embrace, clearly seeing the lingering terror swimming in her eyes.
It was horrifying enough watching it from an omniscient bird's-eye view, but facing it directly? The sheer pressure of those massive eyes staring down at her was enough to strip Ais of any will to resist.
"I..." Ais opened her mouth, her expression entirely speechless.
Held tight within Lucian's warm embrace, Ais's stiff body gradually relaxed. What followed immediately after was overwhelming embarrassment.
"With the Colosseum at your disposal, as long as you quickly adapt to your current level and ensure your combat style and techniques don't fall behind, you won't suffer from a lack of control over your own power."
Lucian patted her back. "In less than three months, you'll reach a Limit Break Level 10. Challenging the Behemoth then will be much easier."
"Mhm..." Having just experienced that, Ais was noticeably much more obedient.
"Did it hurt?" Meteria asked, her heart aching as she gently stroked Ais's cheek.
"It didn't hurt. It just startled me." Ais shook her head.
As long as I die fast enough, I won't feel any pain.
Ais's deadpan internal logic left the group caught between laughter and tears.
Though they all felt sorry for her, they knew this was a necessary experience.
Even though the Divine Court possessed a resurrection mechanic that functioned even in the outside world, it was one thing if Ais only got herself killed. If her recklessness dragged others down with her, she would never be able to forgive herself.
After all, resurrection was an exclusive privilege granted only to the Divine Court's residents. Ordinary mortals couldn't be revived.
Moreover, Ais had actually died quite a few times already. Despite Lucian's strict teachings, whenever she fought alone, she still occasionally missed the optimal window to retreat.
If the respawn timer in the Colosseum didn't take so painstakingly long—far slower than simply retreating and healing at the spring...
Lucian firmly believed that the moment Ais reached her physical limits, she would just slice her own throat to secure a quick reset.
Therefore, for the residents of the Divine Court, death and resurrection were hardly a big deal once they got used to it.
The tea party resumed shortly after. Ais bounced back quickly and even began interacting with the group a little more.
It was a clear sign that she was slowly lowering her emotional defenses and integrating into their found family.
As the tea party continued, the conversation shifted toward casual, everyday chatter.
Everyone gathered together, basking in the warm sunlight and comfortably enjoying the leisurely atmosphere.
"I've discovered a pattern."
. . .
Deep within the Random Labyrinth, after a prolonged period of exploration, Yamraiha finally deduced a mechanic of the maze. "If the direction we're heading in is correct, shouldn't the monsters be getting stronger?" she theorized aloud.
The Random Labyrinth was far too massive. Without some sort of directional indicator, clearing it would be a genuinely impossible challenge.
That was why Lucian had structured the labyrinth as a massive sphere. The entrance was located on the outer surface, while the exit was tucked away at the very center.
Furthermore, the gravitational pull inside the labyrinth differed drastically from the outside world; gravity was defined relative to the individual's current position.
In other words, if someone stepped onto a wall, that wall immediately became their floor.
If they stepped onto the ceiling, the ceiling became their floor, and a corridor that was previously heading upward would suddenly plunge downward.
The only reliable navigational compass within the labyrinth was the scaling difficulty of the monsters and the increasing rarity of the loot drops.
The stronger the monsters and the rarer the treasure chests, the closer they were to the core.
"It certainly seems that way!"
Ren Kougyoku's eyes lit up. "If that's the case, doesn't that mean we actually have a chance of finding the exit?"
"It won't be that simple."
Scheherazade interjected calmly. "Right now, we are entirely cut off from our magic and Metal Vessels. If the monsters reach a certain threshold of power, we can't possibly rely on our True Forms to brute-force our way toward the exit, right?"
"Furthermore, navigating in our True Forms might not even trigger the labyrinth's traps or treasure chests."
Yamraiha nodded in agreement. "With a maze this incredibly vast and complex, there's no way it would possess such a basic, exploitable flaw."
Honestly, if they managed to uncover an actual glitch or loophole, Lucian would probably award them a special prize just for the achievement.
