Chapter 712: Damaged Portals
Wei Wu took out a black jade token and pushed it toward him. "General Fang, this token can be used to mobilize 50,000 troops of Master’s death soldiers."
After Fang Shou took the token, Wei Wu continued, "My Master wants you to gather the soldiers here."
Hearing this, Fang Shou’s heart skipped a beat. Clenching the token, he thought, ’Is it time to close the net?’
Seeing him deep in thought, Wei Wu stood up. "I will contact you again. For now, lie low and wait for further instructions."
Coming back to his senses, Fang Shou nodded. "Understood."
Mission complete, Wei Wu picked up his sword and stood. "Then, until next time."
Leaving those words behind, he left the room.
After the door closed, Fang Shou looked down at the black jade token in his hand. His expression remained calm, but his deep eyes were filled with determination.
While each faction was secretly mobilizing their power, time flew by in the blink of an eye.
Three days later, at the First Hospital in Fu Cheng Town, Bai Hanyun’s eyelids moved slightly.
Sitting by the bed, Wang Kaiye noticed the movement. Putting down the recipe book he was reading, he leaned closer toward Bai Hanyun.
As he silently stared at her, Bai Hanyun suddenly opened her eyes.
Meeting that pair of cold eyes the moment she woke up, Bai Hanyun was speechless.
"....." What is he doing?
After a brief moment of silence, she parted her lips and asked in a hoarse voice, "Brother Kaimu, what are you doing?"
Hearing this, Wang Kaiye calmly said, "I’m Kaiye."
Realizing her mistake, Bai Hanyun raised her hand, only to find it wrapped like a dumpling.
"...This..."
Wang Kaiye poured a cup of water, inserted a straw, and brought it to her lips. "Drink."
Bai Hanyun rarely spoke with Wang Kaiye, as he usually kept to himself, so she was surprised to see him here.
Seeing that she didn’t drink, Wang Kaiye simply stared at her in silence.
Under his steady gaze, Bai Hanyun had no choice but to take the straw and sip the water.
Glug... glug... glug...
Only then did she realize how thirsty she was. As the warm water slid down her throat, Bai Hanyun instantly felt better.
After drinking half a cup of water, she shook her head.
While Wang Kaiye set the glass down on the bedside table, Bai Hanyun looked at him and asked, "Brother Kaiye, where is this?"
Wang Kaiye reached for the button on the wall and pressed it. Sitting back in the chair beside the bed, he replied calmly, "First Hospital in Fu Cheng Town."
After getting the answer, Bai Hanyun frowned slightly and asked, "What happened to me? How did I wake up here? I clearly remember being struck by lightning in the imperial palace of the Jin Empire."
Wang Kaiye listened calmly before replying, "You were found lying on scorched ground by passersby. They called the police and an ambulance and brought you here."
"When we returned from the Ancient World, Brother Hua called your phone, but it was CEO Gui who answered. That’s how we learned you were struck by lightning."
This might have been the first time Wang Kaiye spoke so much. He coughed lightly, then fell silent again.
After listening to his explanation, Bai Hanyun recalled what had happened before she lost consciousness and muttered, "I guess part of the lightning followed me back to this world. Fortunately, I managed to jump into the space and time portal in time."
Thinking of what might have happened if she had been even a moment too late, she shuddered.
After calming down, Bai Hanyun looked at Wang Kaiye and asked, "Brother Kaiye, I remember you guys were investigating the border town. Why did you return so suddenly?"
Wang Kaiye paused briefly at her question before answering, "Something went wrong in the Ancient World."
The moment he said this, Bai Hanyun’s heart skipped a beat. "What did you find?"
Wang Kaiye looked at her silently for a moment, then said, "We found a giant formation array carved into the stone slabs at the center of the border town."
Bai Hanyun’s eyes flickered at his words. "A formation array carved into the stone slabs?"
"Mhm," Wang Kaiye nodded.
"While we were taking pictures of it, the sky suddenly darkened, and black mist began to seep out of the formation. After several thunderclaps shook the ground, the undead started coming out from the mist."
"Surrounded by the undead, we had no choice but to return. Before leaving, Captain threw a grenade to buy us time. Unfortunately, his portable space and time portal cracked and can no longer be used because of the explosion."
After saying this, Wang Kaiye asked, "Miss Bai, can you still use your space and time portal?"
"I don’t know," Bai Hanyun replied. Then, noticing her loose hair, she asked, "Where is my wooden hairpin?"
Wang Kaiye opened the drawer beside the bed, took out a wooden hairpin, and showed it to her. "Here."
Bai Hanyun raised her bandaged hands, took the hairpin, and closed her eyes. After a moment, she opened them again, frowning deeply. "I... I can’t open the portal."
Hearing this, Wang Kaiye’s eyes flickered.
Turning to him, Bai Hanyun helplessly said, "Maybe the lightning damaged it."
Noticing his thoughtful expression, she asked, "Brother Kaiye, what are you thinking?"
Coming back to his senses, Wang Kaiye looked at her. "Miss Bai, none of our portals are working."
The moment he said this, Bai Hanyun froze. Clenching the wooden hairpin with both hands, she opened her mouth, but no words came out.
After a long silence, she finally asked, "Did you damage the medium?"
Wang Kaiye shook his head and took out a luminous pearl from his Qiankun Pouch. Showing it to her, he said, "Mine is intact, but I still can’t open the space and time portal."
Bai Hanyun fell silent after hearing this.
Looking at her thoughtful expressions, Wang Kaiye hesitated for a moment, then said slowly, "Miss Bai... we might never be able to return to the Ancient World again."
