Chapter 294: In Another World
Wu Jun nodded and followed the nurse, while Xie Wei accompanied the other nurse as they transferred Ouyang Zhuangyu to the inpatient ward.
Half an hour later, Wu Jun returned to the ward. Sitting on the couch, he dialed Hua Yuyu’s number.
When the call connected, he said, "Captain, Brother Zhuangyu is in the First People’s Hospital."
The moment Hua Yuyu heard this, his expression darkened. "What happened?"
Wu Jun briefed him on everything that had happened since they found Ouyang Zhuangyu hiding in the dark alley until now.
When he finished his report, he said, "Captain, based on Brother Zhuangyu’s condition when we found him, he was lucky to have escaped those assassins. It looks like the Xue Wu Gang has no intention of letting us, or Miss Bai, go."
After listening to Wu Jun’s report, Hua Yuyu pondered for a moment before saying, "We are searching for Miss Bai right now. You two should guard Zhuangyu while keeping an eye on the situation. If you discover anything new, inform me immediately."
"Yes, Captain."
After ending the call, Hua Yuyu put away his phone and said to the others, "Wu Jun and Xie Wei found Zhuangyu, but he was shot. Fortunately, they got to him in time and sent him to the hospital. He is out of danger now."
When the others heard this, their expressions darkened.
Noticing their reactions, Hua Yuyu added, "Wu Jun and Xie Wei will guard Zhuangyu and monitor the situation. Our main mission right now is to find Miss Bai as quickly as possible before the Xue Wu Gang finds her."
Hearing this, the others nodded in unison. "Yes, Captain."
With that, Hua Yuyu and his brothers continued their search without resting.
Meanwhile, in the Feng Army’s camp, the soldiers had already woken before dawn and begun their morning training.
Inside the commander’s tent, Bai Hanyun was roused by the sounds of activity outside.
Stirring on the bed, she yawned and opened her eyes. When she saw the unfamiliar ceiling, she froze for a moment before looking around.
After a brief silence, she muttered in a daze, "..... Ah... I’m now in another world."
Sitting up, Bai Hanyun grimaced as soreness spread through her muscles. Kneading her calf and arm, she thought, ’So sore. Looks like I need to start training my stamina and body, just in case something like yesterday happens again. I won’t be that lucky every time I meet with assassins.’
After making up her mind, Bai Hanyun got out of bed. Walking out from behind the folding screen, she noticed a set of new clothes, a clean cloth, and a bucket of warm water neatly prepared on the table.
Smiling at Feng Xiyan’s thoughtfulness, Bai Hanyun washed her face and body, then changed into the new clothes.
Outside the tent, Feng Xiyan heard movement inside. He waited until the rustling of clothes stopped before turning around and asking, "Fairy Bai, are you awake?"
Tying up her hair with a jade hairpin given by Feng Xiyan, Bai Hanyun replied, "Yes. Please come in."
Receiving her permission, Feng Xiyan entered the tent, leaving the two soldiers standing guard outside in disbelief.
"Did the Great General just call the young lady inside Fairy Bai?" one whispered to his comrade after a moment of shock.
The other swallowed hard and nodded. "...Yes."
While the two soldiers were still stunned by this shocking fact, Feng Xiyan froze the moment he saw Bai Hanyun wearing the clothes he had prepared.
Turning around, she greeted him with a smile. "Good morning, Feng Xiyan. Thank you for guarding me last night. You must be very tired. Why don’t you get some rest now?"
As a soldier, Feng Xiyan could function normally without sleep for five to ten days. Moreover, his profound internal energy made him far stronger than ordinary people, reducing his need for rest.
Shaking his head, he replied, "Thank you for your concern, Fairy Bai. Xiyan is fine."
Hearing this, Bai Hanyun studied him for a moment. Seeing his complexion was normal and he was in a good spirit, she decided not to press further.
"Since you said so, I won’t insist. Just remember to take care of yourself."
Hearing this, Feng Xiyan felt a surge of happiness. Touching his heart, he shyly thought, ’Fairy Bai is worried about me. She is so kind.’
After taking a deep breath to calm his heartbeat, Feng Xiyan nodded with a smile. "Mhm. Xiyan will do as Fairy Bai says."
Then, he added, "Fairy Bai, it’s still early. Do you wish to have breakfast here or at the Great General’s Mansion?"
Recalling what he said the night before, Bai Hanyun replied, "I’d better eat at your house. It would be bad for your reputation if the soldiers saw me here."
Happy with her consideration, Feng Xiyan nodded. "Very well. Xiyan has already arranged a horse carriage for you. Shall we go now?"
Just as he spoke, Bai Hanyun stopped him and asked, "Feng Xiyan, do you have something to cover my face? A mask or a veil?"
Remembering that everyone in the Feng Army and Xiqiang City had seen Bai Hanyun’s face because of her golden body, Feng Xiyan quickly said, "Xiyan will prepare a veil for you. Please wait a moment."
He then hurried out of the tent. Before long, he returned with a straw hat draped with a long veil.
Handing it to Bai Hanyun, Feng Xiyan explained, "Fairy Bai, this is a common hat with a veil that young ladies often use to cover their faces. It’s more comfortable than a mask and offers better concealment than a small veil."
Accepting the hat, Bai Hanyun put it on. Seeing how the veil fell to her knees, covering her entire figure, she nodded in satisfaction.
"This is good." She turned, moved about a little, then added, "It doesn’t hinder my movement. I like it."
Hearing this, Feng Xiyan smiled. "As long as you like it."
After Bai Hanyun gathered her belongings into her backpack, she said, "Let’s go."
Taking the backpack from her hand, Feng Xiyan gestured politely. "After you, Fairy Bai."
Just as Bai Hanyun took a step, something caught her eye. She froze, then quickly turned around. When she spotted the familiar bronze mirror placed on an altar, her eyes widened in shock.
