Chapter 572: Consummation (The Grand Finale)
Chapter 572: Chapter 549: Consummation (The Grand Finale)
After Lin Shan’s term in Chang City ended, he was transferred back. Although it was a lateral move, Chen Fengjiao was overjoyed. As long as he was by her side, she would have been happy even with a demotion.
During his tenure, Lin Shan accomplished a great deal for the city and was very popular with the people. His reputation in official circles was also excellent. Back home, his family life was worry-free. He spent his free time holding his granddaughter and playing with his grandson, feeling utterly content with his life.
As for the Sun Family, Sun Jiasheng and Wei Hong had another child last year—a son. This made Wei Hong and Cao Qiu ecstatic. Cao Qiu visited less often, since she had her new little grandson to look after. All in all, that side of the family was also doing well.
Grandma fell ill after Grandpa Guan passed away. The experience made her feel the fragility of old age, never knowing which day might be her last. However, she eventually recovered and is doing quite well now. She and Grandma Dingzi spend their days trying not to worry too much, content to watch over their children and grandchildren and live happily one day at a time.
Aunt Zhao and her family had already moved out. They were a large family now as well, and with her grandson starting elementary school, she had to look after him. Still, she always dropped by for a visit whenever she had a free moment.
The Sun Family had hired a new, honest and reliable nanny. With Gu’er needing to look after Xingxing and often going out with Sun Jiaming, they needed someone at home to manage things.
“Let’s take Jiji and Xingxing to the village this weekend,” Gu’er said to Sun Jiaming. “We can show them the mountains. They’ve never been before.”
Gu’er suggested to Sun Jiaming.
“Great idea. We can tell them the story of their parents, tell them where we first met. When Jiji gets a little older, I can even take him fishing.”
Sun Jiaming was very enthusiastic. He hadn’t been back to the village in a long time, and now that he thought about it, he really missed the place.
“Okay.”
Gu’er rested her head on Sun Jiaming’s shoulder as they walked along slowly. She believed they would walk hand-in-hand like this for the rest of their lives…
When they arrived home, Xingxing threw herself into Gu’er’s arms. A heartfelt smile spread across Gu’er’s face as she looked at her daughter.
“Mommy, Mommy, sit right down, please have a cup of tea. Mommy, Mommy, you must be tired…”
Little Xingxing was already over two years old, but she spoke with remarkable clarity. Right now, she was tugging on Gu’er’s arm, singing a nursery rhyme she had learned.
Gu’er felt an overwhelming love for her daughter. Xingxing looked just like her and Sun Jiaming, especially her bright, dark eyes. Sometimes she was mischievous, and just when Gu’er would start to get angry, Xingxing would look up at her with those eyes, melting her heart completely. How could anyone possibly stay mad at her?
Most importantly, Xingxing bore no resemblance whatsoever to Zhang Juan. Gu’er knew in her heart, ‘This is my daughter with Sun Jiaming. I’ve started over, so my daughter is a new life. She is absolutely not a continuation of Zhang Juan, and she will have no connection to her. We are all a new beginning.’
A new life, a new beginning, a fate completely different from her last. This life was long, and their story still had many chapters left to write. For instance, would Jiji and Xingxing go through a rebellious phase as teenagers? Would Jiji cross paths with Liu Fang’s daughter when he grew up? Would Xingxing date a boy from another country in college? Or perhaps…
In short, the future held many more stories. They were all still unknown to Gu’er, waiting for her to live them. But the beauty of life lies in never knowing what tomorrow will bring. It is that very uncertainty that makes the journey so much more interesting, isn’t it?

Thank you to the reader “Angel’s Sleepless Night” for the peace charm, and thank you to reader 160909174420816 for the monthly ticket. Thank you all for your support. It’s finally over. Although I’m sad to see it go, all stories must come to an end. The end of one story is the beginning of another, and I hope you will all continue to support my new book. I’ll also be writing a final message to you all, which I’ll post once it’s done.
