The Adopted Cannon Fodder Made a Comeback

Chapter 546: Little Maternal Uncle

Chapter 546: Chapter 527: Little Maternal Uncle

Yang Chun’s mother showed up and caused another huge scene. She was mainly targeting Xinghua; seeing her “bully” her daughter, she tried to charge forward and attack her.

How could Wang Qiu and Dong Liang let her get her way? They blocked her, keeping her from getting anywhere near Xinghua.

Yang Chun’s mother shouted a stream of curses at Xinghua, Dong Liang, and the entire Dong Family. Her yelling was so loud that all the neighbors came out to watch the spectacle.

Although Xinghua wasn’t one for cursing, she wasn’t a pushover either. With a sharp tongue, she thoroughly rebuked Yang Chun and her mother. She laid out all the heartless and treacherous things the Yang Family had done, making it clear to the gawking neighbors that it was the Yang Family, not the Dong Family, who was in the wrong.

After Yang Chun and her mother finally left in disgrace, word spread all over the street: the Dong Family’s Liangzi had found himself a formidable new girlfriend. She was no pushover, her family was well-off, and she had a strong backbone. She’d driven the Yang Family away, so it was best not to provoke her in the future.

Once they were gone, the crowd of spectators dispersed. Wang Qiu and Xinghua went into the kitchen to cook, and Dong Liang stood by the doorway.

“Xinghua, I’m so sorry you had to see that embarrassing display. Please don’t be angry. We never expected Yang Chun to show up.”

Wang Qiu was worried Xinghua would be angry. ‘For such a scene to happen on her very first visit… if she were the petty type, she’d surely think our family is a mess.’

“Of course not, Auntie,” Xinghua replied. “This isn’t your or Brother Liangzi’s fault. They were the ones who came here to cause trouble. I just hope you don’t think I have a bad temper.”

Xinghua had returned to her usual self, as if that fierce woman from moments ago had been someone else entirely.

“How could we think that? The kind are easily bullied. It’s because I’m so useless that people walk all over us. You have no idea how much I hated it when the Yang Family showed up back then. But I’m just too soft and ended up making myself sick with anger for nothing. Your being fierce is a strength. Besides, we were in the right. At first, I was worried you were too gentle and would get bullied, but now, I can rest easy.”

After she finished speaking, Wang Qiu glanced at Xinghua and nodded. ‘It’s true, most mothers-in-law don’t like a sharp daughter-in-law. They worry their son will get pushed around or that there won’t be peace at home. But our family’s standing is low; if she weren’t tough, others would just bully them. Xinghua isn’t an unreasonable person, so it’s fine if she’s a little fierce.’

Dong Liang smiled as he looked at Xinghua, too. ‘She’s just perfect,’ he thought. ‘Everything about her is perfect.’

When Xinghua caught Dong Liang staring at her with a goofy grin, she shot him a glare, but the corners of her lips curved up into a small smile.

That evening, Xinghua returned and told Gu’er what had happened at the Dong Family’s home.

Gu’er was dumbfounded. She couldn’t believe Xinghua had run into such a mess on her very first visit. ‘If it were anyone else,’ she thought, ‘Yang Chun might have actually managed to sabotage the whole thing.’

‘What was that Yang Chun thinking? Never mind how she treated the Dong Family in the past. Even now, she’s only gone back to her parents’ house—she hasn’t even officially split from her husband yet—and she’s already trying to get back with Dong Liang? Does she think she can do whatever she wants? Where does she get that audacity? It really takes all kinds.’

“You’d better not mention this to my mother when you go back. Just say everything went well so she doesn’t worry.”

Gu’er explained to Xinghua that her mother, Lin Shuying, was having a difficult pregnancy and was feeling unwell all the time. It was a good thing Zheng Changsheng was there to look after her day and night with such meticulous care, or she might have lost the baby.

“I know,” Xinghua said. “I’ll only tell her the good parts.”

Xinghua nodded. Having seen how much Lin Shuying was struggling with the pregnancy, she certainly didn’t want to add to her worries.

“So, are things settled between you and Dong Liang then?” Gu’er asked.

“Mhm. We’ll have a matchmaker handle the formalities when the time is right. Brother Liangzi and I talked it over and decided to get married next year. We’ll wait until after your mother and my sister-in-law have their babies. I’m afraid that if I get married now, she might overexert herself and something could happen. I can’t risk tiring her out. Waiting another year is no big deal, and Brother Liangzi agrees.”

Xinghua explained to Gu’er, her face flushing.

“That’s good. My uncle and I were saying the same thing. Once my great-aunt has her baby, we’ll help you plan a wonderful wedding next year.”

Gu’er nodded. It was good that Xinghua and the Dong Family had reached an understanding. This way, it was convenient for everyone.

With both sets of parents having met, Xinghua and Dong Liang felt at ease. Even though the wedding was set for the following year, they continued to date as usual and would visit each other’s families with gifts during the holidays.

A few days later, Sun Jiaming returned and happily told Gu’er that the business deal was a success. The contract was signed, and the client had already sent the down payment. Once the clothes were shipped and they received the final payment, they stood to make over a hundred thousand from this single deal. The client also mentioned they were interested in a long-term partnership if things went well.

Gu’er was thrilled. They had definitely chosen the right path. Foreign trade was a business they could be in for many years. As long as they managed it well, this source of income would never dry up.

Li Zhi didn’t return with him; he stayed behind to oversee things and spend time with Feng Ling.

Time passed, and soon it was May. Marina and Dingzi took a trip back to Russia because Marina’s sister was getting married. They stayed for nearly a month before returning.

The business in Russia was doing very well, and profits were substantial. Their mall had already established a firm foothold in its city. The clothing export business out of Guang City was also thriving, with several new orders secured. Everything was running smoothly and required little worry.

Meanwhile, Bai Xiaohua gave birth to a daughter. Although her mother-in-law—Liu Yuan’s mother—didn’t look too pleased, the doctor confirmed that Bai Xiaohua was healthy and could have more children. After that, the older woman’s attitude changed. She stopped her scolding, now pinning her hopes on her daughter-in-law to give her a grandson next time.

Liu Yuan, on the other hand, adored his daughter. He was all smiles, and his expression would turn incredibly gentle whenever she was mentioned.

In mid-June, Lin Shuying also went into labor. The birth was quite dangerous, but fortunately, they had invited the old master over ahead of time. With his help, she delivered the baby safely.

Lin Shuying gave birth to a six-jin son. While not particularly chubby, he was a good size for Lin Shuying. Not only Lin Shuying, but Zheng Changsheng, Zheng Zhongshan, Zheng Xinghua, and everyone from the Lin Family were ecstatic. This little life, carrying the hopes and blessings of so many, had finally arrived safely. It was a joyous occasion for all.

“Baby brother, baby brother, he’s so small… and so ugly.”

Three days later, Gu’er brought Jiji to see Lin Shuying and the baby. Looking at the infant sleeping soundly with his eyes shut, Jiji wrinkled his nose in distaste. ‘This little brother is so tiny and red,’ he thought. ‘He’s not good-looking at all. My sister Dian Dian is much cuter.’

“He’s not your little brother. You have to call him Little Uncle,” Gu’er corrected him. “When you were little, you were just like him—tiny, with reddish skin. Then you slowly grew into the big boy you are now.”

Gu’er gently pinched Jiji’s nose. ‘This little guy, already looking down on his own uncle.’

Jiji sniffled. ‘I wasn’t like that when I was little,’ he thought defensively. ‘I was fair-skinned and cute, just like my sister.’

“Haha, Jiji,” Lin Shuying said, “your little uncle will get handsome once he grows a little more. When that time comes, you can take him out to play, how about that?”

A benevolent smile graced Lin Shuying’s face. She felt her life was now complete. She had given Zheng Changsheng a son; she finally felt she had fulfilled her duty to him.

Jiji didn’t seem to understand why someone younger than him had to be called “Little Uncle” instead of “little brother,” nor did he grasp what “Little Uncle” really meant. However, he did understand the part about playing with the new baby, so he nodded his head.
