Chapter 192: 192: No Eternal Allies
After he finished, Homelander walked over to the window and shoved it open.
"Clean yourself up. I know you can manage."
"Alright, stop glaring at me like that. You're not seriously expecting me to wipe you down, are you?"
Stormfront on the bed could force out a few words now. Her voice was pure gravel, but if you listened close you could still make out the words.
"A real man would've just climbed on top of me."
"Baby, you're wasting it." She slid her hand under the sheets.
The reason was simple. She wanted Homelander's superior genes to cook up a proper Aryan Homelander of her own. Seeing Ryan had only locked that idea in tighter. Homelander's DNA was top-shelf. Even mixed with a regular human it had produced something perfect.
Combined with her it would create a master race built on pure Aryan stock.
"Sorry. Not in the mood right now." Homelander shrugged, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, twisted the cap off, and took a few swallows before bitching, "All this recent bullshit is giving me a real headache. Billy's like a goddamn sewer rat. You pop the manhole cover, catch a glimpse of his tail, and the fucker vanishes.
Still, I'm more curious about the guy who jumped you that night. Odds are he's still breathing, hiding in some hole somewhere licking his wounds and trying not to die."
"He… his face looked Asian. Powers are weird as hell. I think he's packing at least four."
Stormfront hatefully remembered Ivan with Yuuji's face, while she shoved the sticky liquid deeper inside herself, then used her one remaining hand to push up against the headboard. She glanced at the bag of Compound V hanging beside the bed, yanked the needle free with effort, and jammed it into her own neck.
"You sure about that? Vogelbaum said your body's already at the limit. Overloading on Compound V won't do you any favors."
"I decide what my limit is." As the blue liquid poured into her, the pain only made her brow twitch a little. Not that she had eyebrows left.
"Fine."
Homelander didn't mind watching Stormfront juice herself back together with Compound V the same way A-Train did. But that road usually left scars. Heart damage, for one. Maybe she'd end up like A-Train, permanently hooked on the stuff.
"Invisible tentacles, a chest that fires blue lasers, shockwaves that let him fly, and arms that turn into something like bird wings that burn hot enough to melt steel." Stormfront's voice started out shaky and slowly sharpened.
Her eyes were pure murder. If that bastard hadn't shown up out of nowhere she never would've been wrecked this bad.
"Sounds like some Hollywood bullshit character. Those guys love stuffing the movies with freak villains. Octopus-legged freaks, bright-red skull faces, the usual. But they always die to a real superhero like me. Good guys beating the bad guys is what the crowd pays to see."
Homelander said it like he couldn't care less.
As far as he was concerned the guy couldn't even stop his lasers. Pathetic.
"Baby, you need to take this seriously. He's not weak. At least—"
Homelander cut her off.
"You sound like a scared little girl. Think about it. He only showed up when you were already hurt. That tells you everything."
Stormfront shut her mouth.
Right then a sharp, rhythmic knock hit the door. Bang. Bang-bang.
"Come in." Homelander flicked the half-empty water bottle into the trash can by his foot.
"Nice weather today."
Ivan Greevs, wearing the cream-white suit, pushed the door open with the latest New York Daily under his arm and stepped into the room.
"Good afternoon, Homelander, Miss Stormfront."
"I somehow... doubt the Vice President of Vought, Monsieur Greevs, is dropping by... just to check on me out of the kindness of his heart." Stormfront had never liked Greevs much to begin with. After the attack her opinion had hit rock bottom.
Ivan didn't give a shit about her attitude. He held out the newspaper.
"The noise around you and Homelander already made the papers. Remember that Polish guy who caused a scene at the event a few days ago? Name's Paige. Lives in the West Philly projects."
"He's dead?" Homelander's brow twitched.
"Yeah. Cause of death was cardiogenic shock triggered by asphyxiation. Hospital threw everything they had at him, but the neck was wrecked so bad the broken bone fragments sliced open the blood vessels. They couldn't save him." Ivan's tone stayed flat, like he was talking about the weather.
Homelander sneered. "One dead Polish guy. And a nobody Polish guy at that. Don't tell me you people can't even bury something this small."
"It went smooth at first. We sent lawyers to the family, offered a hundred grand to keep their mouths shut. They weren't thrilled with the number, but the lawyers reminded them Paige deliberately stirred up the crowd and tried to start a riot."
Even if he got killed, Homelander would only be looking at involuntary manslaughter at worst. Probably walk without any criminal charge at all.
"They agreed to settle. Then yesterday the family flipped, filed a lawsuit, and leaked the whole thing to the press. Once it hit the air it exploded. Racial tension's been climbing hard lately, and Paige became the match that lit the fuse. Crowds of Polish, Asian and Black people are already out protesting. Their slogan's 'We still can't breathe.'"
The mess handed Ivan a little over five hundred Fantasy Points. It also reminded him Stormfront still had plenty of chaos left to squeeze out of her.
Killing her outright might net a thousand points max. No, killing this bitch.. it shouldn't be that easy for her. Keeping her around to stir shit could keep the points rolling in much longer. Easy math.
[Fantasy Points: 2520 (these Fantasy Points come from: Stormfront… contributed 730 total, The Deep contributed 1220, Ryan contributed 210…)]
He'd been about to crack three thousand before the Demon Slayer run burned a thousand. Ten thousand still felt a long way off.
"Billy and his rats again?" Homelander thought of Billy's crew like a swarm of flies. Swat at them and they scatter. Stop for one second and they're back in your face. Infuriating as hell.
Ivan shook his head.
"Not them. Different group. Who exactly, still unclear."
