Reborn In The 90's: Saving My Siblings With A Fishing System

Chapter 500: Beijiang Rebels (II)

"Zhao Mingzhu, what are you doing here?" Zhai Muchen wanted to talk with Han Ruochen about Han Beijiang’s situation, but after seeing Zhai Mingzhu standing next to him, he realised that there were more important things for him to deal with.

"Commander...?" Zhao Mingzhu was just as stunned as Zhai Muchen. He glanced at his superior and then turned to look at Han Ruochen. What was going on? Did the two of them know one another? How could that be possible? Zhai Muchen was the youngest regiment chief. Who was Han Ruochen? No matter how beautiful and talented she was, the chances of her getting to know someone like Zhai Muchen were close to none.

It wasn’t that he looked down on Han Ruochen. Zhai Mingzhu had been working under Zhai Muchen for quite some time, and she knew that the man was not simple. Even though he was always smiling, he was as cunning as a fox, and when he wanted to deal with someone, he was as ruthless as a devil. For this very reason, Zhai Muchen’s smile was rather infamous in the army.

It was rumoured that whenever the man smiled at someone, he would make sure that the person ended up in an unlucky situation. Hence, he was called the smiling devil by the soldiers under his supervision.

What was more, for some reason, when Zhai Muchen looked at him just now, Zhao Mingzhu had a feeling that he too was going to land himself in trouble. However, after a short while, he shook his head. Why would regiment commander Zhai be upset with him? He had done nothing wrong. He even finished his mission under excellent conditions. Why would Zhai Muchen murder him?

But if that was the case, then why was this man looking at him with the eyes of a killer? What was going on?

"What are you doing with Ruochen?" Zhai Muchen was still smiling, but something about his smile threatened Zhai Mingzhu. He shivered unconsciously and replied instantly, "I...Miss Ruochen and I came to buy some fruit."

"Miss Ruochen?" Zhai Muchen’s smile widened even more when he realised that the two of them had actually started using one another’s first names. However, even though he was smiling, there was something amiss in his gaze that made Zhao Mingzhu gulp hard. What was—why was the commander looking at him like that?

"Ah, she and I—"

"I have something to talk about with Ruochen," said Zhai Muchen as he emphasised Han Ruochen’s name. It was as if he was trying to imprint her name with his own. "You can buy fruit and return to the hospital." He knew that Zhao Mingzhu’s father was also admitted to the hospital because he ended up in a tussle with someone. But he never knew that the two of them would end up together in the same ward. Because there was no other explanation other than Uncle Han and Zhao Mingzhu’s father sharing the same ward.

Zhao Mingzhu: "..."

Huh?

"Zhao Mingzhu?" When he did not receive a reply from Zhao Mingzhu, Zhai Muchen narrowed his eyes and looked at the man with some annoyance in his eyes. Why was this man acting like a fool? He had already told him that he should leave, so why was he standing there like a fool?

"Yes! Regiment Commander Zhai!" Zhao Mingzhu immediately put his feet together and saluted the man in front of him.

"Then go and buy the fruits that you want to buy."

"I understand, Regiment Commander Zhai!" Zhao Mingzhu nodded and accepted the command that was given to him. He then did a one-eighty-degree turn with his feet and hands and ended up in a ready-to-run posture. And before anyone could stop him, he was already running toward the market on his own.

Han Ruochen: "..."

Why did she have a feeling that the man was being led around by the nose by Zhai Muchen?

No, why would she think of such a thing? Why would Zhai Muchen, of all people, lead someone by their nose? No, this was not important. Even if Zhai Muchen was leading someone by the nose, it was not as important as Han Beijiang.

She turned to look at the man and glanced at him with a look of confusion in her eyes. "Brother Zhai, can you tell me where you found Beijiang?"

"I found him in the market." Zhai Muchen was quite glad when he saw that Han Ruochen was not paying attention to Zhao Mingzhu in the least. But then the smugness in his heart was replaced by a hint of frustration. It seemed like his importance in Han Ruochen’s heart was not much when compared to her brother. "He was lurking around the alleys, searching for something. I think he was looking for the special school."

Han Beijiang might be a special child, but he was also quite smart. He knew that the special school was rather important for him and thus paid quite a lot of attention to it. Since his mother stopped sending him to the school and no one in the family had the time to pay attention to him, he obviously came to look for the school himself.

"Is that true? Did you come to the county alone because you wanted to go to the school?" Han Ruochen felt her heart jump to her throat when she heard that the little boy had come to the county on his own. Human traffickers, no matter what era, were always rampant. What if something happened when he was looking around the alleys? It was a good thing that he ran into Zhai Muchen, or else things would have headed south at once!

Han Beijiang lowered his head and hid behind Zhai Muchen. He did not know why, but he trusted Zhai Muchen; surely, the man would protect him from his sister?

However, he overestimated Zhai Muchen’s courage. Though it was true that Zhai Muchen was a rather courageous man, when it came to Han Ruochen, he was not the slightest bit courageous. The second the woman glanced at him, he smiled and stepped aside, letting Han Beijiang face Han Ruochen’s wrath on his own.

Han Beijiang: "..."
