Chapter 499: Beijiang rebels
Han Yichen was heartbroken, but he soon composed himself. Han Ziyan might be wrong about many things, but she was correct about one thing. He still had his biological children by his side; he might have wronged them in many ways, but they were still willing to stay and help him in times of need. In the past, Meng Yunhan often told him that their biological children were unfilial and that they would never treat them with respect in the future.
What was more, all of his children were distant and cold toward him, while Han Ziyan knew how to sweet-talk. It was no surprise that he often felt that Meng Yunhan was speaking the truth. In fact, if he hadn’t heard it with his own ears, he would have never believed that Han Ziyan was actually this heartless.
Zhao Mingzhu noticed that though Han Yichen looked pale, he was rather calm and heaved a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the man had a steady personality or else if something happened to him, he was worried that he would be blamed.
"Okay, I will take you to the restroom." Just deal with the task at hand and leave the rest in the hands of Han Yichen; anyway, this was their personal matter. Han Ziyan might have said some unpleasant things about him, but he was not bothered by her. She was just a stranger to him. If he started taking every insult to heart, Zhao Mingzhu was worried that he might end up spiralling into depression.
The two men finished their business and returned to the ward in a hurry. Han Yichen wanted to close his eyes after learning that Han Ziyan was pregnant, and even though he was trying his best to control his emotions, he couldn’t forget those harsh words that were spoken about him. As for Zhao Mingzhu, he just wanted to hurry back to the ward and go out with Han Ruochen. He had long forgotten the things that Han Ziyan said about him.
"Miss Ruochen, shall we go to the market?" Zhao Mingzhu asked as soon as they returned to the ward. He looked quite excited!
Han Ruochen blinked her eyes and looked at the man who had walked over to her. She raised her head and nodded calmly. Since she had already agreed, it would be rude of her if she refused now. "Alright, let’s go." She turned to look at her father, wanting to ask his permission before leaving, but when she noticed that her father’s mood looked sullen, she could not help but frown. She had a feeling that there was something amiss with her dad.
However, she did not question him. She knew that he wouldn’t tell her even if she asked him what was wrong. "Dad, I am leaving." Suppressing the urge to ask her father what was going on, she turned on her feet and headed out of the ward. Once the two of them were outside, Han Ruochen glanced at the man beside her and lightly asked, "Brother Zhao, did something happen when Dad went to the restroom with you? He looked quite upset after returning."
"This..." Zhao Mingzhu was a bit embarrassed when he heard Han Ruochen’s question, but it was not in his nature to lie, so he told her the truth about what happened. Once Han Ruochen heard the good things that Han Ziyan had done, her expression darkened. She worked so hard and even held herself back from telling her father that Han Ziyan was pregnant. Who would have thought that the two women would drop the bucket on their own?
"I am really sorry." Han Ruochen was embarrassed to death when she thought about how Han Ziyan had not only badmouthed Zhao Mingzhu, but she had also been caught on the spot. And what was up with her? How could she look down on Zhao Mingzhu when her own reputation was in tatters? Han Ziyan was truly something! She had never seen a woman with skin thicker than hers.
She was already in such a terrible condition, and yet she still held the same arrogance as she did in her past life.
She sucked in a breath and calmly said, "My adoptive sister has been spoiled rotten by my mother; she has no idea what is good and bad for her. I am sorry; I will definitely talk with her and have her apologise to you." Han Ruochen was very angry. It was bad enough that Han Ziyan did not have the slightest bit of gratitude toward their father, but she even insulted Zhao Mingzhu, whom she had met just a few minutes ago.
What did she even know about this man that she was talking behind his back?
Zhao Mingzhu waved his hand. "Oh, it’s alright? I didn’t take her words to heart. That’s her opinion of me; it has nothing to do with you. So there is no need to apologise. Anyways, what she said is not wrong; we are indeed from the countryside." Zhao Mingzhu had a very positive attitude toward life; naturally, he would not take such a small matter to heart.
Han Ruochen was quite impressed with his attitude. If only Han Ziyan could learn something so simple from Zhao Mingzhu. "That’s really—"
"Ruochen?"
Han Ruochen paused and turned to look in the direction from which the familiar voice came and frowned hard. However, when she saw that it was Zhai Muchen, she immediately smiled. "Brother Muchen, what are you doing here?"
"I ran into him." He pulled the little hand that he was holding, and only then did Han Ruochen see whose hand he was holding. "Beijiang? What are you doing here?" She was sure that he was supposed to be at school around this time. What was he doing in the county?
Han Beijiang lowered his head and did not reply. It was quite clear that he was worried that his sister would get angry at him.
"It seems like you didn’t know. Your mother has stopped sending him to the special school that you arranged for him." Zhai Muchen noticed the confusion in Han Ruochen’s eyes and showed an ’as expected’ expression. When he ran into Han Beijiang roaming aimlessly around the streets, he knew that there was something wrong and when Han Beijiang told him that he no longer went to the special school, he knew something was even more wrong.
So he immediately brought Han Beijiang to Han Ruochen. However— he slowly turned to look at the man standing beside her. And what was he doing next to Han Ruochen?
