True Apocalypse Game

Chapter 364 - 342: There Has Never Been a Savior

On a pier in San Francisco, a hooded youth sat listlessly, quietly watching the sea.

Behind him, few people remained in the Bay Area, a region of over seven million. Police sirens blared throughout the city, and the piercing sound of air-raid sirens echoed across the harbor.

Initially, the world’s governments had wanted to conceal the matter of the Wormhole Sea Region. However, with two of Eagle Country’s carrier fleets completely wiped out and the United Fleet returning in defeat, it was impossible to keep it a secret.

Even more terrifying, a new Exotic Giant Beast had passed through the Space Wormhole and was now heading for a human city, necessitating an emergency evacuation.

As a result, the entire world now knew that a giant beast was about to attack San Francisco, and the city had been swiftly evacuated.

As the core of the Bay Area, downtown San Francisco and its eight hundred thousand residents had been completely abandoned. Eagle Country’s army had set up a large number of artillery pieces and tanks on the outskirts, while missile units aimed at the area, ready to fire on the approaching exotic beast at a moment’s notice.

Broadcasts ordering residents to evacuate the city blared ceaselessly, and cars formed long lines on the roads leading out of town.

Aside from a handful of people who weren’t afraid to die, the vast majority had scrambled out of there in a terrified mess.

As for the youth sitting on the pier, no one paid him any mind.

After all, you can’t talk sense into someone who’s looking to get themselves killed.

"Hey, bro, you here to see the monster too? Let me tell you, curiosity kills the cat," a Black man dressed in hip-hop style, wearing a big gold chain and a diamond-studded watch, asked the hooded youth.

Besides the two of them, there wasn’t a single other person on the pier.

The Black man had originally thought of himself as a lone weirdo, but now he felt this hooded Asian youth was even weirder than he was.

Seeing no reaction, the Black man spoke again:

"From Hua Country? An Indian?"

The youth still didn’t respond. The Black man shrugged and said, more to himself,

"Doesn’t matter. As long as you’re not white, it’s all good. You know where this monster actually came from? And why it’s here?"

The hooded youth finally reacted, asking:

"Where it came from?"

Hearing the youth respond, the Black man’s face lit up. He said:

"Let me tell you, this monster is formed from the vengeful spirits of all the Black people who died at sea during the slave trade. It’s here to punish those self-righteous white people. Otherwise, why would it choose Eagle Country and not some other country? Why choose San Francisco? I had a dream last night. I received a calling in my dream. It’s the ancestral spirit of our people, here for revenge!"

Hearing this, the hooded youth looked at the Black man, completely speechless, seemingly amazed by his wild imagination.

The Black man burst out laughing, pointed at the hooded youth, and shouted:

"The confused Black guy face! Hahaha, your expression! The confused Black guy face!"

He then quickly explained:

"Your expression is exactly the same as that confused Black guy meme online, hahahaha! Man, you’re hilarious... I’m James."

He said, holding out his hand to the hooded youth.

The hooded youth chuckled, seemingly infected by the Black man’s vibe, which he couldn’t decide was optimistic or just goofy. He reached out, shook the man’s hand, and said,

"I’m Shen."

James plopped down next to the hooded youth and said,

"Shen, why are you here? You’re not like me. You’re not Black. Those ancestral spirits from Africa don’t know you; they won’t protect you."

The hooded youth looked at him, speechless, and asked,

"You really believe that?"

But he didn’t even need an answer; he knew this guy was a true believer.

Because James had already pulled a small doll from his pocket, along with some dried grass, animal fur, and human fingernails. He also had a lighter. He placed everything in a bowl and began to light the grass and fur, performing a ritual.

"My family is from a long line of Witch Doctors in Haiti. We can communicate with the Divine Spirits of this world through Voodoo. As long as I can make the ancestral spirits understand I’m their descendant, their incarnation won’t hurt me."

A proud and mysterious expression appeared on James’s face. He winked at the hooded youth beside him.

"Don’t worry, my friend. Even though we just met, we’ve both been humiliated by white people before. I’ll have the ancestral spirits protect you too."

The corner of the hooded youth’s eye twitched. He said,

"Well, I should thank you for that..."

James laughed heartily, flashing a bright white smile. He said,

"Hahaha, don’t mention it, man! Right now, all across the American Continent, who knows how many Voodoo Messengers are performing rituals. Clergy from Christianity, Satanism, and other religions are all praying to their Divine Spirits. But none of them are as close to the ancestral spirits as I am! I’ll be the first to receive their favor and become the messenger of the spirits!"

By now, the fur, nails, and dried grass in the bowl had begun to smolder, releasing plumes of gray smoke. James muttered incantations, looking completely serious about it.

Suddenly, a fierce gust of wind blew up, scattering the smoke.

The wind had picked up.

The hooded youth looked up at the distant sea. On the once-calm surface, an arc had suddenly begun to rise.

The arc grew higher and higher, moving rapidly toward the pier.

As the "arc" drew closer, it became clear that it was a massive, curved wave hundreds of meters high. It looked like a round mountain made of seawater, hurtling across the ocean’s surface, about to crash into them!

The gale force winds from the massive wave blasted them head-on, buffeting James and the bowl in front of him.

He clutched the bowl to his chest and shouted over the wind to the hooded youth beside him:

"Don’t be afraid, man! The ancestral spirits haven’t heard my prayer yet. They’ll calm down soon."

But the terror faintly visible in his eyes suggested he was saying it more to bolster his own courage.

But even if he regretted it now, it was too late. The massive wave was moving too fast, and in the blink of an eye, it was only a few kilometers from the coast.

Looking up, it was as if a great mountain range of seawater had appeared before them. Within it, one could faintly see a massive dark shadow with countless tentacles and sharp limbs, as well as two yellow eyes, each the size of a basketball court, brimming with malice.

The yachts, fishing boats, and cargo ships docked in the bay were tossed into the air like toys by the giant wave, then sent crashing down toward the pier!

CRASH! CRASH!

Some of the boats and debris landed around the two of them with tremendous noise, nearly crushing them several times.

James was still trying to hold on, sitting on the ground and bracing against the wind, muttering:

"Ancestors, I am a descendant of Witch Doctors from the Sahara. Please accept my spirit, protect me..."

His body trembled as he spoke. The wind was so strong it nearly knocked him over, but he still struggled to stay upright.

The crest of the super-wave was now less than a kilometer from the shore. The thing was moving so fast that in just a few dozen seconds, it would likely smash into the pier completely.

The monstrosity hidden within the wave was now clearly visible—several kilometers long and as vast as a mountain range!

Just then, a cruise ship, tossed up by the wave, fell from the sky, plummeting straight toward where James and Shen were!

"AHHH—" James let out a terrified scream, realizing it was all over. He cursed, "Fucking monster! It’s not an ancestral spirit at all! We’re gonna die! And my asshole dad who taught me this Voodoo crap, I hate you!"

He forgot all about the bowl, covering his head with his hands as he braced for death.

But after a few seconds, the ship still hadn’t come down. He couldn’t help but look up and immediately saw a shocking sight.

Two gray metal arms, dozens of meters thick, had suddenly burst from the ground on either side of the coast. They reached high into the air and caught the falling cruise ship!

At the same time, a metal shield-like object appeared in front of him, blocking the gale and keeping him from being blown away.

Then, he saw the hooded youth next to him stand up, smile faintly, and say:

"There has never been a Savior, nor can we rely on Immortals or Emperors. If humanity wants to survive, it’s all up to us. You might want to step back a bit."

The moment he finished speaking, the ground beneath the youth’s feet—along with the entire coastline for dozens of kilometers—began to rise as if it were alive. A tide of black and gray matter surged around the youth, rapidly forming the shape of a giant a thousand meters tall!

The youth stood on the giant’s shoulder. With a wave of his hand, the metal giant threw a punch, striking right into the heart of the mountain-like wave!
