Chapter 345 - 324: The Brave Eagle Country Navy
Daimon’s order for the fleet to advance was risky, but he wasn’t going in completely unprepared. He roared an order:
"Detonate the depth charge ambush perimeter!"
A thousand meters below the surface, in the deep sea surrounding the massive tentacle, a ring of pre-planted, new-model depth charges detonated simultaneously!
Massive shockwaves erupted on the seabed. Propelled by the immense water pressure at a depth of a thousand meters, they blasted outward in all directions, their primary force directed at the gargantuan, fifty-meter-thick tentacle.
The converging shockwaves created a powerful shear force, like a circular guillotine contracting inward. It immediately trapped the giant tentacle and squeezed it viciously.
The giant tentacle, originally fifty meters in diameter, was compressed to a width of about twenty meters as numerous lacerations tore across its surface.
The section of the giant tentacle above the water’s surface shuddered violently, snapping ramrod straight. Everyone in the human fleet could see it trembling intensely, clearly in pain.
"Fire the cannons! Launch the missiles!" Seizing the opportunity, Daimon immediately ordered, "Weapons free!"
Aboard the surrounding warships, main and secondary batteries roared to life, launching volley after volley of powerful shells at the tentacle. At the same time, missile tube hatches burst open, and missiles streaked into the sky, rocketing toward the colossal appendage that towered hundreds of meters above the sea.
But just then, the tentacle retracted downward at a speed of several hundred meters per second, vanishing beneath the waves in an instant!
A few of the shells and missiles struck the tentacle and detonated, but most missed completely, screaming toward the distant horizon in a spectacular display.
"Launch torpedoes! Seawolf units, maintain alert!" Daimon ordered again, his eyes glued to the situation unfolding beneath the waves.
Soon, plumes of dark green liquid rose from the depths, quickly staining the surrounding sea green.
Daimon felt a small sense of relief.
This had to be the monster’s blood. Clearly, the previous attack had injured this Exotic Giant Beast.
’It seems this thing isn’t so tough after all,’ he thought. ’No matter how big it is, in the face of human weaponry, it’s just an animal.’
’Humanity can level mountains and boil lakes dry. No matter how enormous or incomprehensible an animal is, it’s still just an animal. Faced with technologically advanced primates—Homo sapiens—it can only ever be at the bottom of the food chain.’
These thoughts flashed through Daimon’s mind as he carefully observed the green liquid on the surface and gave his next order:
"Collect tissue samples of the Exotic Giant Beast! Activate all sonar; find the beast’s location!"
’Some of the shells definitely hit it and tore open several large wounds.’
’The fact that it bleeds suggests it’s a carbon-based lifeform.’
’It might even share some structural similarities with life on Earth.’
’In that case, there’s nothing to be afraid of...’
The entire fleet’s sonar arrays now formed a massive net, probing the conditions underwater.
The submarine formation was also on the move, trying to track down the giant tentacle.
Ironically, the most excited people were the media personnel and streamers.
When the massive tentacle first appeared and tore a warship to pieces, everyone had been scared out of their wits. The massive waves it created had tossed their small boats around violently.
But they hadn’t expected the Eagle Country Fleet to react so quickly, severely wounding the beast and forcing it to flee in the blink of an eye.
Seeing several square kilometers of the sea’s surface stained green with the monster’s blood, the various media crews and streamers couldn’t help but exclaim:
"That’s the Eagle Country Fleet for you—the most powerful fleet on Earth!"
"I originally thought they were on a suicide mission, but it turns out they’re just so powerful they have nothing to fear."
"Haha, the Eagle Country People are just incredible. Makes me want to emigrate."
"The cleanup will probably start soon. When the dead monster floats to the surface, make sure you get some good shots. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
"Hey, if the Eagle Country Fleet killed the monster, does that mean the monster belongs to Eagle Country now?"
"Tsk tsk, legally speaking, that’s absolutely the case. No wonder the Eagle Country People are fighting so hard. It’s a shame about the Hua Country People and the Russians—one is the current number two, the other a former number two, but neither can compare to Eagle Country. Tsk tsk, their foundation, their foundation is just too..."
Before the last sentence could be finished, the dozens of civilian vessels in the very center of the Wormhole Sea Region suddenly lurched in unison. An immense current seemed to surge up from the seabed, throwing them into disarray.
People screamed, desperately clinging to nearby railings and ropes.
A few were the first to notice something different below, shouting loudly:
"The seabed! Something’s coming up!"
"A black shadow! Is it the sea monster... is the monster back?!"
"No... that’s... that’s a submarine! Don’t be afraid, it’s one of the Eagle Country Fleet’s submarines!"
"A submarine... but it’s surfacing too fast!"
BOOM! With a deafening roar, a hundred-meter-long, seven-thousand-ton Virginia-class attack submarine burst from the sea. It created a furious wave that tossed dozens of civilian boats aside, and the two broadcast ships for CNN and BBC were smashed directly into smithereens!
Its momentum unabated, the nuclear submarine launched clear out of the water and soared into the air, hurtling toward a nearby Zeus Destroyer!
A submarine might not seem large compared to an aircraft carrier, but it was still a hundred-meter-long behemoth. As it suddenly flew high into the sky, it created the spectacular, terrifying sight of blotting out the sun.
The captain and crew of that Zeus Destroyer were plunged into despair.
While a Zeus Destroyer possessed powerful anti-air capabilities sufficient to shoot down incoming enemy missiles, it was utterly helpless against a massive nuclear submarine.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!...
A series of massive explosions erupted as the nuclear submarine smashed the Zeus Destroyer’s bridge. The immense impact detonated the destroyer’s munitions magazine, instantly engulfing it in a giant fireball that also set the submarine ablaze!
Witnessing this, everyone—from Commander Daimon of the Eagle Country Fleet, to the distant commanders Zhao Weiguo of the Hua Country Fleet and his counterpart from the Russian Fleet, and every other officer familiar with the Virginia-class Nuclear Submarine—held their breath in the same instant. They stared, eyes wide, at the burning, crushed nuclear submarine.
A Virginia-class Nuclear Submarine can carry 40 vertically launched cruise missiles, can be fitted with nuclear warheads, and is equipped with four torpedo tubes capable of firing Mark 48 heavyweight torpedoes.
According to prior intelligence gathered by all sides, this particular submarine, the USS Indiana, was carrying six nuclear warheads.
