Chapter 344 - 323: Professional Troublemaker
"BOOM... KRAK... BOOM... KRAK-KRAK..."
At first, the sound was quite faint, but it grew to resemble the continuous firing of a heavy cannon.
The sound waves traveled up from the seabed, creating a shockwave that sent countless ripples across the ocean’s surface.
All sorts of fish and marine life hidden in this sea region now surfaced. Many large fish even tried to leap onto the various ships, but they couldn’t jump high enough.
The entire sea was suddenly alive with countless fish leaping from the water. In the chaos, a few panicked dolphins even slammed into a warship’s propellers and were instantly torn to shreds.
The naval officers present all wore grim expressions as they watched the scene unfold.
Having spent long periods at sea, they knew this was not a good sign. Such behavior typically only occurred after an undersea earthquake or volcanic eruption caused a rapid increase in the water’s toxicity.
Meanwhile, the people on the media boats, especially the live-streamers, were cheering ecstatically. Some took out nets to scoop up fish, while others cast their fishing rods. It looked just like a marine amusement park.
Judging by the joyous scene on the surface, anyone would think it was a perfectly harmonious and danger-free occasion.
The fleets from Hua Country, Russia, and other nations were still pulling back, having reached a distance of about twenty nautical miles. Seeing the Eagle Country and Canadian fleets remaining in place, Zhao Weiguo’s expression grew solemn. He said:
"An incompetent general is the death of his army. This Daimon is too obsessed with power..."
He was naturally well aware of the situation among the other side’s top brass and quickly understood what Daimon was trying to do.
Although it seemed the Space Wormhole wouldn’t change much for now, he would never risk the lives of his men for it.
Data continued to stream in from the seabed. This time, it showed that the range of the Wormhole’s phantom image hadn’t expanded much, but the diameter of the physical Wormhole itself had reached nearly fifty meters.
However, the surface of the physical Wormhole was still covered by an unknown barrier.
On the other side of the undersea Wormhole, it was still pitch-black. Some massive, ring-shaped outlines could be faintly seen clinging to the Wormhole, but their nature was unknown.
"Have our J-15 carrier group launch and stay on alert. Let’s see what kind of trick the Eagle Country People are trying to pull," Zhao Weiguo ordered as well.
Soon, two groups of jets appeared in the sky. One, belonging to Hua Country, patrolled the outer perimeter. The other, from Eagle Country, flew repeatedly through the core airspace of the Wormhole Sea Region, as if demonstrating to the other nations that this territory belonged to them.
Just then, the energy fluctuations that had been strengthening began to stabilize, then slowly decreased.
The continuous rumbling from the seabed and the sound of shattering glass also grew much fainter, eventually disappearing altogether.
It seemed the Exotic Giant Beast behind the Space Wormhole had quieted down.
A corner of Daimon’s mouth lifted. He knew he had won his bet.
Before the entire world, he had proven the mighty strength and courage of the Eagle Country Navy. While other nations retreated, only their Eagle Country warships held their original positions, fearless and ready to fight whatever dangers might emerge.
As for the Canadian fleet? ’Pets aren’t even worth mentioning.’
But even so, Daimon didn’t let his guard down. He continued to give orders:
"Release the depth charges. Form a three-dimensional blast-net defensive perimeter below."
Their fleet was equipped with the latest model of depth charges, capable of diving to a depth of about one thousand meters. They were primarily designed to counter the Russians’ Poseidon supercavitating torpedoes; he never expected to use them here.
The captain of the aircraft carrier approached Daimon to congratulate him.
"Admiral, congratulations. Your courage has brought honor to the Eagle Country Fleet. I bet the President himself is writing a tweet praising you right now. We’ll all get to read it soon enough."
Daimon chuckled and said:
"This is a credit to our entire fleet. I simply saw that the Wormhole’s energy readings were insufficient to support a crossing, and I have complete confidence in the great Eagle Country Navy..."
Before he could finish his sentence, another massive boom erupted from the seabed. The entire ocean surface shook violently, and even the aircraft carrier they stood on trembled.
Immediately after, vast quantities of dead fish floated up from the depths, turning the surface of the sea into a blanket of white.
"Report the undersea energy data!" Daimon’s eyes widened as he snapped, "Now!"
"Energy... energy... energy levels are spiking! The probe... the probe just shattered!" A trembling voice came over the communicator—it was the soldier on monitoring duty.
Daimon lunged toward the main screen, his eyes fixed on the live feed.
He saw the physical Wormhole, originally only thirty meters in diameter, suddenly expand to fifty meters!
And its phantom image swelled to a diameter of over a hundred meters!
The enormous eye that was there before now appeared in its entirety before human eyes, seeming to glare at all of humanity through the screen.
And a small part of the Exotic Giant Beast’s form became visible.
Its body was at least a hundred meters long, completely blocking the Wormhole’s phantom image. Its surface was pockmarked, as if struck by meteorites, and its grayish-white body was made of some unidentifiable substance.
Its body seemed extremely malleable, as if it were flowing across the Wormhole’s surface.
The next instant, the Space Wormhole erupted with a blinding light, and a massive dark shadow shot out!
"POP! POP! POP!" Hundreds of undersea cameras shattered simultaneously. All the monitoring screens turned to white static, losing the feed from the seabed.
Daimon’s eyes widened. He took a deep breath and ordered:
"Detonate the depth charge defensive perimeter immediately!"
A series of muffled explosions followed from the seabed. This time, it was the hundreds of depth charges detonating simultaneously, creating a massive pressure zone on the ocean floor powerful enough to crush anything within it.
Giant waves shot into the sky, demonstrating the power of these new bombs. Daimon couldn’t help but nod in satisfaction.
Suddenly, the USS Nimitz he was on shuddered violently. The entire aircraft carrier was even lifted upwards slightly, as if struck hard by something from below, sending monstrous waves surging around it.
Piercing alarms immediately blared across the carrier. On the radar, it looked as if dozens of submarines had suddenly appeared on the seabed!
"Battle stations!" Daimon’s brow furrowed as he shouted, "Find the attacker! Prepare to extract tissue samples!"
"SPLASH!" A colossal wave suddenly erupted next to the aircraft carrier, creating a torrential downpour. Wrapped within it was a massive black shadow, ascending hundreds of meters into the air.
Everyone who saw this was instantly dumbfounded.
It was a grayish-black tentacle, a full fifty meters thick, that shot a hundred meters into the sky before slamming down, instantly snapping a nearby Zeus Destroyer in half!
The tentacle then coiled around the front half of the destroyer, lifting the several-thousand-ton behemoth dozens of meters into the air before flinging it away with immense force!
Screams filled the air. Many sailors were flung into the sky before they even had a chance to jump overboard!
"Fire! Fire! Blast it to pieces!" Daimon was the first to react, realizing the worst-case scenario had come to pass, and roared at the top of his lungs.
It seemed they had stirred up a world of trouble.
