Chapter 335 - 314: Electromagnetic Railgun

"BOOM!"

A muffled explosion echoed from the giant tower ahead. The tower, once smooth-surfaced, suddenly bulged near its base, forming massive, tumor-like sacs that were nauseating to behold.

The next moment, these sacs all erupted violently, spewing out waves of fire and fragments of shredded flesh!

Each bulging sac was the result of the blast wave from one or more bombs!

The giant tower’s outer shell was incredibly tough, capable of withstanding even missile attacks, but it proved to be hopelessly fragile against destruction from within!

The massive, bloody maws at the top of the giant tower, which were already present, now simultaneously let out anguished wails that sounded like the howls of a wounded beast.

The three thousand-plus zombies rigged with explosives had mostly been absorbed from one side and hadn’t yet been fully integrated into the tower’s entire body. As a result, this one direction of the tower suffered the most severe damage.

The base of the tower, originally dozens of meters thick, was now more than halfway blown apart, leaving a gaping wound. A waterfall of blackish-brown, foul blood poured out, its stench nearly flooding the center of New York City.

The wounds were scorched black and filled with shattered flesh and gore. One could even see many human bodies that hadn’t been fully absorbed, now blasted clear by the explosions.

Seeing this, the faces of the Salvation Army warriors, along with the Symbiote zombies, broke into excited smiles.

They had succeeded!

The Legion Commander and the others exchanged a glance and let out a long sigh of relief. They never imagined that the giant tower, which even the Mother of All Bombs dropped by a strategic bomber couldn’t damage, would be destroyed so easily.

It really was just like the old saying: the strongest fortresses are always breached from within!

Just then, the giant tower, which had been writhing and wailing in agony, suddenly straightened up frantically. The rows of eyes at its peak swiveled rapidly before locking onto the Symbiotes below and abruptly unleashing a violent, humming shriek!

This shriek carried a powerful vibration that instantly spread throughout New York City, shattering all the remaining glass windows in the ruined buildings.

Accompanying the sound wave was a powerful, chaotic Thought Field that immediately made the human warriors in front of the tower clutch their heads and cry out in pain.

The Symbiotes reacted even more strongly, collapsing to their knees with agonized howls. The weakest among them let out bloodcurdling screams as the heads of the constituent zombies that formed them popped one by one like balloons!

The ordinary zombies that had been wandering around all tilted their heads back and let out wolf-like howls. In the blink of an eye, they formed a massive horde and attacked the allied human and Symbiote forces from all sides!

"Put on your headsets and helmets! Form a defensive line! Heavy weapons, target the base of that tower and blow it apart! Mr. Hannibal, it’s up to you now!" the Legion Commander ordered loudly.

Immediately, the Salvation Army troops donned their radio headsets and foil-wrapped helmets, which provided instant relief. Armored vehicles began to form a perimeter, shielding the heavy artillery within, and in moments they had established a formidable attack formation.

Led by the Hannibal Symbiote, the assembled Symbiotes roared wildly as they combined their powerful Consciousness Fields to resist the mental influence from the giant tower.

With the giant tower’s consciousness weakened by the damage, the Symbiotes seized the opportunity to break free from its control and began to fight the surrounding zombie horde.

The five most powerful Symbiotes began to merge with each other, forming five towering monstrosities of fused flesh dozens of meters tall, which then roared and charged the ruined tower.

By now, the Salvation Army’s self-propelled artillery, rocket launchers, and other long-range heavy weapons had finished calibrating. A deafening barrage erupted as they fired volley after volley of searing shells toward the giant tower!

Now, not only the Salvation Army warriors, but also the battling Symbiotes, held their breath, their eyes fixed on the afterimages of the shells arcing through the sky, eager to see if the giant tower’s defensive field had been broken.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

A series of explosions rang out, but to everyone’s disappointment, the shells all detonated in mid-air, blossoming into flowers of fire. Though they got much closer than before—only about five hundred meters away—they still failed to explode on the tower itself.

That damned defensive field was still active!

Some of the Symbiote zombies even let out howls of despair at the sight, unable to believe that after all their herculean effort, they still hadn’t broken through that cursed defensive field.

Meanwhile, tentacle-like growths of flesh were already sprouting from the tower’s wound. At the same time, a large number of zombies were throwing themselves at the tower and beginning to merge with it. Before long, the damage caused by the three thousand bomb-laden zombies would likely be completely healed!

If that happened, everything they had done would be for nothing, and they would still be unable to escape destruction by the Destructive entity!

The Legion Commander, however, remained expressionless, as if he had anticipated this all along. He turned to Fres at his side and said:

"Fres, it’s your turn. Blow that damn thing out of the sky for me!"

Fres nodded and gestured to several Salvation Army warriors beside him. A few jeeps shot backward, pulling the tarp off an elongated vehicle that had been kept under wraps.

Then, something shaped like a giant mechanical Crossbow Mechanism appeared before them.

The main body of the device consisted of a several-meter-long alloy rail and a series of spiraling coils.

The rear section of the rail housed a chamber similar to a magazine, inside which a fist-sized, silver metal projectile could be seen.

It looked like a glittering jewel.

The rear half of the machine was encased in a metal shell, while the front half exposed various mechanical parts and internal wiring, looking like it was still a prototype.

At the same time, thick cables were pulled from several surrounding support vehicles and connected to the mysterious machine.

Its more complex internal components were hidden under the canvas of the transport truck; only the better part of the machine was visible.

The moment they saw this thing, many of the Salvation Army warriors with solid military backgrounds gasped in shock, their faces filled with utter astonishment.

This thing... was an Electromagnetic Railgun!

An Electromagnetic Railgun that could be used in actual combat!

It was said that only Hua Country and Eagle Country possessed such a weapon that was ahead of its time. They never expected to see one in person today.

A trace of pride, along with anticipation, appeared on Fres’s face, yet there was also a hint of reluctance.

After all, this weapon was one of Eagle Country’s top military secrets. What he was doing was tantamount to treason.

’But then again, this is just a game,’ he thought. ’The Commander must have already grasped everything.’ With that, he felt a sense of relief.

His expression turned serious as he said,

"This is still a prototype. We only have three shots. It’s all or nothing."

With that, he personally climbed into the control room. After a series of adjustments, he slammed the button.

Arcs of electricity flashed across the Electromagnetic Railgun, forming a circular circuit. In the next instant, the metal projectile in the chamber glowed with a blinding white light.

With a flash of light, the metal projectile transformed into a meteor, instantly piercing through the distant giant tower!

The defensive field, once thought impregnable, was now utterly useless. It had no effect at all as the projectile tore a massive hole twenty to thirty meters in diameter through the tower’s base, melting and vaporizing the flesh within.

Just then, a thunderous CRACK erupted from the Electromagnetic Railgun—the sonic boom of the shot was only just now spreading out!
