Chapter 295 - 277: Pablo Escobar
As the second-largest land mammal after the elephant, the hippopotamus weighs an average of one ton. With their foul and irritable tempers, they are responsible for killing a staggering five hundred people every year. Even crocodiles give herds of hippos a wide berth, and there are many documented cases of crocodiles being bitten to death by them.
You could say they were one of the most terrifying large animals in Colombia.
Martin Benitez was well aware of how terrifying these hippos were. One method of punishment he’d inherited from Pablo was to throw a man into a herd of hippos to be eaten.
Their terrifying bite force could tear a man’s body into several pieces.
Feeling the other man’s movements now, he couldn’t help but tremble all over.
If the man had just killed him outright or tortured him in some other way, that would be one thing. But being fed to hippos... Just thinking about it made his whole body ache, as if he were already being torn apart.
He hurriedly begged for his life:
"I really don’t know anything about Cthulhu! If you want money, I have a lot of money! I have three billion US Dollars! I can tell you where it’s buried! If you kill me, the Colombian Government won’t let you get away with it! The Medellin Group will hunt you across the globe!"
Sensing the man’s body temperature and heartbeat, Shen Feng couldn’t help but frown.
His hand was clamped around the man’s neck, and he could feel that he wasn’t lying. ’He really doesn’t know who Cthulhu is!?’
This was too strange... When he mentioned the Purification Society earlier, the man’s expression had clearly changed.
He immediately asked again:
"What do you know about the Purification Society?"
Martin Benitez, now drenched in sweat, slowly replied:
"The Purification Society... The Purification Society was an organization that existed in Eagle Country’s history. It’s gone now... I don’t know anything else. Everything I know I found on the internet..."
Shen Feng nodded. Although the man’s heart was racing and his breathing was rapid, they didn’t change noticeably as he spoke.
’He’s not lying.’
He then continued, "Why were you looking up information on the Purification Society?"
If this man truly had no connection to the Purification Society, it was impossible that the head of a criminal organization in a small South American country would look up information about them, much less do it himself.
Martin Benitez seemed to be struck dumb by the question and didn’t answer for a moment.
Shen Feng nodded, grabbed the man’s little finger, and squeezed. With a "CRACK," he crushed it completely!
"AAAHHHH—" A bloodcurdling scream tore from Martin Benitez’s throat, startling some birds into flight from the surrounding forest. The hippos idling nearby also began to swim toward them, seemingly annoyed that these two humans were disturbing them.
Looking at the flock of startled birds and the surrounding forest and river, Shen Feng took a deep breath and said with a smile:
"Such a lovely environment."
Then he squeezed again, and with the crisp snap of a breaking cracker, crushed Martin Benitez’s ring finger!
"AAAHHHHHHH—" Another bloodcurdling scream erupted. Martin Benitez’s face was deathly pale, sweat poured off him as if he were taking a shower, and snot and tears streamed down his face.
The pain was so unbearable it nearly made him pass out.
Shen Feng felt no pity for these Lone Eagles who treated human life as if it were worthless. There was no telling how many thousands—or tens of thousands—of ordinary people had died at Martin Benitez’s hands, to say nothing of those they had humiliated and maimed.
The most fitting end for scum like this was to be fed, piece by piece, to crocodiles and hippos.
Oh, and if there were Cannibal Fish, that would be even better.
Then, without asking another question, he gripped the man’s middle finger and squeezed again.
"CRUNCH... CRACKLE..."
The sound of shattering bone echoed once more. This time, Martin Benitez finally broke completely, screaming:
"I’ll talk, I’ll talk! I... I overheard the boss mention it once! I heard it when I was making a delivery for him!"
He hadn’t even had a chance to speak before the man had crushed his finger.
’He finally understood now. That damned Asian doesn’t even care about my answers; he just wants to torture me!’
Shen Feng couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
"The boss? If I recall correctly, the esteemed Mr. Martin Benitez, you are the big boss of the entire New Medellin Group in Colombia. A man whose single word can cause rivers of blood to flow through Colombia, whose group kills thousands of anti-drug police officers every year. Could there truly be someone who gives you orders?"
Martin Benitez was silent for a few seconds. The instant he felt Shen Feng’s fingers twitch, he blurted out the biggest secret of his life:
"I... I’m just the big boss’s agent... The big boss has always been here... Everything I do is on his orders. All I inherited was his legacy..."
After saying all this, his body went limp and he collapsed to the ground, as if just speaking those few sentences had drained him of all his strength.
This was the greatest secret of his life. The success he had achieved was all thanks to this secret.
He had always thought he would take this secret to his grave, but he’d never imagined he would suddenly run into such a psychotic Asian and have everything change.
’Good thing the thing this person is looking for doesn’t seem to have anything to do with my secret.’
It was all he could hope for...
Normally, revealing this secret would have been a death sentence, but now, he felt a faint glimmer of some other hope.
A hope he himself didn’t quite understand.
Shen Feng’s expression turned grim as he said slowly:
"The big boss? So you’re saying the true head of the Columbia Medellin Group has been hiding behind the scenes all this time, and you’re just a frontman... The big boss has always been here?"
Of everything the man had said, that last sentence was the most important.
"The big boss has always been here" meant that the original big boss had never left, had never gone away.
And in the past, in the entire Medellin Region—no, in all of Colombia—there was only one man who was the greatest Lone Eagle, the Devil who controlled everything...
Pablo Escobar!
The man who had supposedly died in 1993!
Shen Feng’s eyes widened. "Pablo is still alive!?"
Hearing that name, Martin Benitez shuddered. He looked up at Shen Feng with an incredulous gaze, then gave a miserable smile and said:
"You Asian... you’re a Devil who lives inside people’s hearts..."
He had originally planned to stall, to keep Shen Feng in suspense and leverage it for his own benefit, but he never thought the man would guess the truth behind it all from a single sentence!
Shen Feng’s eyes narrowed, and a small smile touched his lips.
’Interesting...’
To think that the Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, whose downfall had shaken the world, hadn’t died at all. He was still alive and well in Colombia.
The scene of him being gunned down by the Colombian military and police had been splashed across the front pages of major international media outlets all over the world.
Everyone had seen the body.
But no one could have imagined that it was just a body double. Pablo was still alive.
But it made sense when you thought about it. In the ’80s and ’90s, this Colombian drug lord’s business brought him a profit of about 420 million US Dollars per week, totaling nearly 22 billion US Dollars a year. He spent $2,500 a month on rubber bands just to bundle the cash.
With that much money, he could have bought all of Colombia. No matter how far he had fallen, it was impossible that he would be taken out like a rat in the street.
If he had wanted to, he could have trained hundreds of his own body doubles.
It wouldn’t have been difficult.
Shen Feng had originally been looking for Cthulhu, but from Martin Benitez’s mouth, he had found Pablo Escobar—the man who once supplied eighty percent of the world’s drugs.
Then he heard Martin Benitez say with a miserable laugh:
"Kill me... Or let me go so I can kill myself... I’ve told you this secret. Pablo will never let me go. You have no idea how much power he really has."
Shen Feng nodded, a fierce grin spreading across his face, and said:
"Don’t worry, I’ll find out soon enough... Take me to him... Oh, right. First, let’s treat your wounds. Wouldn’t want them to get infected from the clotted blood."
With that, he drew his dagger, lopped off Martin Benitez’s three crushed fingers, and tossed them to the nearby hippos.
