True Apocalypse Game

Chapter 275 - 260: Becoming a Symbiote

He then quietly opened the small basement door and slipped out, closing it again behind him, leaving Reyes and Colin to stare at each other, fraught with worry.

Outside was a laundromat, one of the favorite haunts of the local gangs.

The laundromat’s interior was a winding labyrinth.

Shen Feng moved through rows of hanging clothes that would never be claimed, casually pulling down an oversized trench coat and draping it over himself. He then crept quietly to the front lobby.

A few zombies were shambling about outside, but they were all just the ordinary kind.

The zombie brain in the glass jar still hung from Shen Feng’s waist. At first, the zombies showed some curiosity, but they soon turned away, paying him no mind.

It seemed a washing machine was more worthy of their attention.

Shen Feng adopted a similar swaying, shambling gait and moved to the doorway to look out at the street.

The Hannibal Symbiote’s zombies were still breaking down doors, one after another. It was partly a search for Shen Feng and his group, but it looked more like a furious tantrum.

After all, its losses this time had been immense. Not only had it failed to acquire the Angi Symbiote, but nearly a thousand of its constituent zombies had been destroyed.

The birth of a Symbiote was more a matter of chance, and Symbiotes could only devour other Symbiotes.

After the revival signal came from the Transfer Tower, nearly every Symbiote began desperately amassing power, wanting to become the Divine Messenger’s most outstanding subordinate.

Furthermore, having absorbed the knowledge of countless constituent bodies, the Symbiotes themselves now possessed great erudition and wisdom. They had vaguely begun to suspect that perhaps the Divine Messenger was preparing to replace the Master of the Void and seize total control.

This was precisely why its recent failure at absorption and assimilation had left the Hannibal Symbiote so agitated.

Shen Feng quickly observed the condition of the Symbiote zombies on the street. He noticed that while they clearly showed a degree of discipline and awareness, their movements were just as unsteady, and they struggled to manipulate tools with any finesse.

Their coordination and motor skills weren’t all that different from ordinary zombies.

This proved one thing:

The Symbiote’s control over individual zombies was relatively crude. It couldn’t manage precise control, operating more like a vague, high-level command from its consciousness.

These Symbiote zombies were men and women, old and young. Judging by the clothes they wore in life, they came from all walks of life, with no discernible pattern.

They were like ants in a colony, all directed by a single, independent consciousness.

Shen Feng quickly locked onto his target.

He dragged a zombie from inside the laundromat to the front and slammed it hard against the door, producing a dull THUD.

The zombie gave Shen Feng a vacant look, then shuffled around the door and outside, looking like a harmless, docile man.

But the thud had already attracted the Symbiote’s attention. Just as planned, a Symbiote zombie came shambling toward the laundromat’s entrance.

This Symbiote zombie was similar in height to Shen Feng and wore a tattered trench coat. It walked calmly into the laundromat and began its inspection.

Shen Feng was hidden in a pile of clothes, watching the Symbiote zombie through a gap. He took a fragment of a Sacrificial Stone from his backpack, ready to activate its chaotic magnetic field at a moment’s notice and temporarily sever the zombie’s connection to the Symbiote.

Just then, a deep rumble, like a plane passing overhead, echoed from the distance. The next instant, a powerful and terrifyingly chaotic Consciousness Field, as vast and overwhelming as an ocean, suddenly descended!

This powerful Consciousness Field flooded the zombies’ brains, bringing with it an irresistible force.

The ordinary zombies in the area instantly froze, as if turned into puppets. Meanwhile, the zombies belonging to the Hannibal Symbiote let out agonized wails, clutching their heads and screaming!

Shen Feng felt it too. The moment the powerful Consciousness Field descended, the Hannibal Symbiote’s own Consciousness Field—strong as it was—instantly disintegrated, utterly shattered!

The mental waves connecting it to its constituent zombies were severed in an instant.

In effect, the Hannibal Symbiote had been completely suppressed by that terrifyingly powerful Consciousness Field—it had even been briefly killed!

There was only one possible source for this Consciousness Field: the giant Transfer Tower in the heart of Mexico City!

’Now’s my chance!’

Shen Feng burst from the pile of clothes, dagger in hand. He stabbed the zombie through the neck, wrestled it to the ground, and immediately began scanning its brainwave frequency with his Silicon-Based Brain.

Despite the attack, the Symbiote zombie’s deeply mutated brain continued to emit a unique brainwave while attempting to receive new signals.

These brainwaves were run through a strange, primitive encryption algorithm, similar in structure to the Evil Spirit Virus.

For Shen Feng, this was nothing.

His Silicon-Based Brain cracked it in seconds. He was now able to simulate the Symbiote zombie’s brainwave patterns and receive its specific signals.

That was enough.

The zombie’s brain had mutated into something extremely simple, more like a signal transceiver.

Shen Feng plunged his knife into the Symbiote zombie’s eye socket, scrambling its brain and finishing it off for good.

He then used his Silicon-Based Brain to quickly take control of the body’s functions, shutting down most of his brain’s other capabilities.

The powerful Consciousness Field from the Transfer Tower gradually dissipated, and the wailing Hannibal Symbiote returned to normal.

’It had lost contact with most of its constituent zombies, but thankfully, the connection was now restored.’

’It was still the mighty Hannibal Symbiote.’

’A few individual constituent bodies might have been affected and were acting a little strangely, but they should recover soon enough.’

’Those humans must have been burned to ash. It shouldn’t waste any more time here.’

’The Transfer Tower was showing signs of revival again. It had to devour other Symbiotes and find living sacrifices as soon as possible to gain an advantage in the coming Great Revival.’

With this thought, the Hannibal Symbiote issued a command, directing all its constituent zombies to leave.

’It remembered there were a few more Symbiotes in the western part of Mexico City. Perhaps it should try its luck there.’

Meanwhile, from an inconspicuous laundromat on the street corner, a constituent zombie wearing a tattered trench coat and a mask shambled out and joined the Symbiote’s army...
