Chapter 226 - 217: The Volcano Is About to Erupt
Jiang Si sliced it open with her knife, skewered the pieces, and set them over the fire to roast. Her gaze drifted to the boundless sea, then up to the sky, as she mulled over how to get off this island.
To leave this place, she needed a boat.
Jiang Si knew countless ways to build a boat, and the island had plenty of ready-made timber available.
Her biggest worry was the dangers lurking in the surrounding waters.
And also the possibility of breaking out of this area only to be trapped on an ice sheet, unable to reach shore.
If she encountered such a situation, she would need to think about other preparations.
The large lobster sizzled, its juices overflowing, but it wasn’t cooked yet.
Jiang Si and the others had already eaten their fill of other food.
She didn’t want to waste a single second here.
She had to find Qin Shen and his group as quickly as possible.
A bamboo raft was the easiest type of boat to build.
And the material was the easiest to harvest.
But it also had a major drawback: it would shatter with any significant impact.
Thinking about encountering huge creatures like Blue Whales or orcas, she realized even the sturdiest wooden boat would suffer the same fate.
Jiang Si felt a sense of relief. At worst, she’d just use a few extra layers of bamboo.
The island’s vegetation was abundant; there was bound to be bamboo.
Relying on her experience and a woman’s intuition, Jiang Si picked a direction and led Bailiman and Aisar to look for bamboo.
There were snakes everywhere, but they didn’t seem interested in the comparatively enormous humans.
As long as they weren’t provoked, the snakes wouldn’t target Jiang Si and her companions.
Soon, Jiang Si spotted a bamboo forest, but unfortunately, it was draped with a type of green, venomous snake.
Jiang Si recognized them at a glance—highly venomous bamboo pit vipers.
She was certain that if they so much as touched one of those bamboo stalks, they’d be covered in bite marks.
Without Qin Shen’s Healing Power, Jiang Si wouldn’t dare to mess with these venomous snakes even if she had ten lives.
Jiang Si had no choice but to switch to a different material for the boat.
Plenty of deadwood could also be used to build a boat.
Jiang Si, Bailiman, and Aisar split up to gather and drag the wood.
Suddenly, Aisar screamed. Jiang Si rushed over immediately.
She saw Bailiman holding onto Aisar, who was dangling over the edge of a hole.
Inside the hole were thousands upon thousands of venomous snakes.
Jiang Si immediately pulled with all her might, hauling both of them safely up.
That was far too dangerous; she had nearly fallen into a pit of vipers.
Jiang Si said to them, "Stay close to me, and be careful."
She was more experienced and could anticipate and avoid common dangers.
If she couldn’t leave this place, Bailiman and Aisar would be her emotional support. At least she would still have people to keep her company.
Jiang Si and the others made four trips back and forth collecting wood. Before nightfall, Jiang Si decided not to go out again. She counted the logs, "One, two, three, four... eight. This should be enough." Then she said to Bailiman and Aisar, "Watch how I hang the hammocks. You two follow my lead. We’ll rest for tonight and continue tomorrow."
Bailiman and Aisar nodded.
Jiang Si quickly helped them set up the hammocks.
It looked like a rather comfortable nest, able to shelter them from the wind and rain. The only fear was a venomous snake suddenly slithering in while they slept.
Therefore, they still needed someone to keep watch at night.
Jiang Si let the other two sleep first while she tried to figure out how to split the logs and build them into a boat.
It would be much easier with an axe, but the axe was back in the previous cave.
Jiang Si sighed. Gazing at the flickering flames, she tried to use her superpower again.
The space still didn’t appear, and she couldn’t feel any change at all.
Jiang Si let out a deep sigh. "Why is this happening?"
’Why hasn’t Qin Shen come for me yet?’
She fell into a brief moment of confusion, but was quickly startled by a colossal shadow cast by the firelight.
A gigantic snake head was flicking its tongue menacingly.
Its eerie gaze seemed to regard them as a delicious snack.
A jolt went through Jiang Si. She immediately shouted to wake Bailiman and Aisar in their hammocks, "Run, run! It’s dangerous! There’s a huge snake!"
Bailiman and Aisar, instantly wide awake, leaped from their hammocks and took off running after Jiang Si.
Fortunately, the giant python wasn’t very fast.
Jiang Si and the others ran for a long distance, but the python didn’t catch up.
But there would be no proper sleep for them tonight.
Jiang Si, Bailiman, and Aisar had no choice but to find a large tree and climb it, taking turns dozing in its branches.
But early the next morning, all of them had huge dark circles under their eyes.
Although the island was rich in food, it was even more dangerous than they had imagined.
They had to leave this place, and the sooner the better.
Jiang Si waited until the sun had fully risen before returning to the cave they had stayed in previously. As she expected, the swarm of snakes that had occupied it was gone.
