Apocalypse Hoarder: I Have Billions in Supplies

Chapter 224 - 216: Volcanic Snake Island (3)

The vultures on this island hadn’t been infected with the zombie virus; they fed on the surrounding fish.

But there was no guarantee they wouldn’t take an interest in the women on a whim.

Jiang Si scrambled to her feet and immediately began searching for a place to take shelter.

While other regions were blanketed in ice and snow, this place was teeming with life.

Plump, fresh coconuts still hung from the coconut trees.

Lazy starfish and crabs dotted the sandy beach.

The reefs seemed to be covered in mussels and other shellfish.

Jiang Si felt a tickle at her feet. When she looked down, she saw a stalk of kelp was actually wrapped around her leg.

If not for the active volcano, this place was practically a paradise in the apocalypse.

Once Bailiman and Aisar had recovered, Jiang Si said to them, "We need to find a place to stay and a source of drinking water."

Aisar immediately pointed to the coconuts in the trees. Jiang Si smiled. "Coconuts are great, and we can gather plenty of them, but we’ll still need fresh water if we want to eat anything else."

If they couldn’t get off the island anytime soon, and they ran out of coconuts and had no water, their only hope would be to pray for rain.

Everyone scrambled into action, simultaneously searching for a water source, gathering food, and looking for a safe place to shelter from the elements.

The tide would likely come in, so staying too close to the shore was a bad idea. Jiang Si headed toward the forest.

The next second, she spotted a monstrous python as thick as a human thigh coiled in the treetops.

Jiang Si wasn’t in the mood for snake meat right now, otherwise she would have lopped its head off with a single strike.

She gave the area a wide berth and changed direction, eventually finding a few trees suitable for hanging hammocks. If they couldn’t find a proper place to sleep today, they could make do here for the night.

Still, Jiang Si hoped to find somewhere better.

After walking a while longer, she saw a rock formation.

’There might be a good spot at the base of the rocks.’

Jiang Si searched carefully along the rock formation. After climbing a few meters up, she finally discovered a small cave, a shallow recess in the mountainside only about two meters deep.

But it was a perfect foundation for building a shelter with a good vantage point.

Jiang Si returned to Bailiman and Aisar. "I’ve found a suitable spot. Let’s move some palm leaves and wood over there and build a simple structure so we have a place to spend the night."

Bailiman and Aisar nodded, making sure to bring the suitcase and the coconuts they had gathered.

Soon, they were hauling palm leaves and wood back and forth. Under Jiang Si’s powerful drive, a safe, sturdy shelter quickly took shape.

Everyone was delighted to have a shelter.

Jiang Si then opened the suitcase and carefully took out their few precious belongings to air-dry.

A teacup from the suitcase became their little pot. Jiang Si used it to boil some coconut water and also roasted some fish and crabs.

After a rich meal of carbs and protein, Jiang Si, Bailiman, and Aisar were exhausted.

But one of them had to stay awake and keep watch for danger.

Jiang Si told the others to sleep first while she sat at the entrance to the cave, her eyes half-closed.

Mosquitoes buzzed around her.

Jiang Si sighed. ’Now that I’m here,’ she thought, ’will Qin Shen be able to find me?’

Bailiman and Aisar slept for a long time while Jiang Si dozed lightly.

Only when they woke up did Jiang Si dare to truly relax and get some sleep.

She hadn’t had a proper rest since waking up to find herself alone.

When Jiang Si woke up again, Bailiman had used the teacup to make a kelp and fish soup.

The savory aroma wafted straight to her nose.

Jiang Si finished a cupful, but they had to cook another batch since they didn’t have a large pot.

They also didn’t have enough firewood.

Jiang Si stood up and said, "Bailiman, you stay here. Aisar, you come with me to gather some firewood."

Aisar nodded and followed Jiang Si.

They were able to find plenty of driftwood on the beach.

Suddenly, Bailiman came rushing down the slope. "What’s wrong?" Jiang Si asked, confused.

Bailiman gestured, mimicking a snake slithering into their cave.

Then, she traced a word on Jiang Si’s palm: *Many*.

"Lots of snakes slithered into our cave?"

Jiang Si’s expression darkened. She remembered the python from before. ’Don’t tell me this is a Snake Island.’

’Without realgar, surviving on Snake Island would be a huge problem.’

’Non-venomous snakes would be manageable, but one bite from a venomous one, without the serum from her space... it’s a guaranteed death.’

Jiang Si furrowed her brow. ’Then why didn’t the snakes come before?’

She remembered their campfire and exclaimed, "They’re afraid of fire! If we make the fire bigger, we can drive them away."

Bailiman’s and Aisar’s eyes lit up, and they eagerly started gathering more firewood.

They had to get their cave back—all their precious belongings were still inside.
