Chapter 223 - 216: Volcanic Snake Island (2)
Aisar and Bailiman nodded vigorously. Jiang Si agreed and prepared to head toward Hot Spring Bay.
Seeing Jiang Si about to leave, the few remaining survivors couldn’t help but follow.
Although Jiang Si was just one woman, she had saved them all before and possessed extraordinary skills. They subconsciously felt that following her was the safest bet—that it might be their only path to survival.
Jiang Si glanced back at the people following her and said coldly, "I’m not responsible for whether you live or die."
But even with her harsh words, they remained determined to follow her.
They traveled south until nightfall. The temperature plummeted, and the wind picked up.
Jiang Si had no choice but to stop and quickly build a shelter out of ice to block the cold.
The three of them huddled together, and it was surprisingly warm.
As for the other survivors, while they couldn’t construct an ice hut as refined as Jiang Si’s, there was strength in numbers. They managed to cobble one together and all huddled inside for warmth.
As Jiang Si slept, she suddenly felt the ice begin to tremble.
She shot awake and saw a colossal creature leap from the water under the vast aurora, heading straight for them.
She couldn’t tell what it was, but it seemed slightly smaller than a Blue Whale.
Jiang Si quickly grabbed the still-sleeping Bailiman and Aisar. "Wake up! We’re in danger! Get up!"
Jiang Si’s shouts jolted the others awake. They woke with a start to see a massive, iceberg-like shadow drawing closer and closer.
Before Jiang Si could get a clear look, the sound of CRACKING echoed from the ice beneath their feet, signaling it was about to split.
Jiang Si watched the ice warily. Suddenly, a fissure split open, and she hurriedly yelled for everyone to jump to another ice floe.
Soon, battered by the creature’s impacts and the churning waves, the ice sheet shattered into countless pieces. Jiang Si and her group were left stranded on a slightly larger floe.
A moment later, that too split, leaving them on a piece just big enough for her, Bailiman, and Aisar to cling to one another.
The others were also trapped on their own island-like shards of ice.
As it drew closer, Jiang Si could finally see it clearly. It was a rather playful-looking killer whale.
As the killer whale rammed the ice, it also pushed them steadily out into the open sea.
Upon discovering Jiang Si and her companions, it began to play, nudging their ice floe and pushing them rapidly about.
Jiang Si was incredibly tense. Killer whales ate meat, after all.
They were hardly a snack for a creature this size, but Jiang Si was still determined to find a chance to leap to safety and escape.
But soon, this killer whale joined a pod of others.
The patch of open water they churned grew wider and wider, leaving Jiang Si no chance to leap to another ice floe.
If she tried to jump over one of the whales, the agile creature would likely leap up and snap her out of the air.
For now, the whales seemed to regard them as toys. Jiang Si could only wait for another chance to escape.
Pushing and nudging, the killer whales herded them toward the channel the Blue Whale had passed through earlier.
The channel was incredibly wide, as if the open sea had reappeared right in front of them.
Jiang Si didn’t dare to sleep all night, watching helplessly as they were herded into a stretch of sea with no way to get back onto the main ice shelf.
’Now, our only choice is to wait for the water to freeze again so we can climb out.’
But she soon noticed something unusual. The temperature here seemed much higher. As their floe drifted onward, it began to shrink, melting faster and faster.
’If this ice floe melts completely, we’ll fall into the sea and be eaten by fish.’
As Jiang Si wracked her brain for a solution, she suddenly spotted a hazy, island-like shape in the distance.
Her eyes widened in disbelief as she realized the island was actually a terrifying active volcano.
Their ice floe was melting faster and faster, looking as if it would shatter at any moment.
Jiang Si looked at Bailiman and Aisar, her brow furrowed. "Can you two swim?"
’If they can’t swim, they’ll have to fend for themselves.’
Bailiman and Aisar nodded, and Jiang Si breathed a sigh of relief.
The next second, the ice beneath their feet shattered completely.
They plunged into the sea.
Fortunately, thanks to the active volcano, the seawater wasn’t bone-chillingly cold.
Feeling schools of fish thrashing all around them, with killer whales weaving through the chaos to feed, Jiang Si grew desperate to reach the volcanic island.
She swam and swam, constantly looking back to keep an eye on Bailiman and Aisar. By the time her feet touched sand, she was so exhausted she collapsed onto the beach.
But she didn’t dare lie there for long, because she had spotted the silhouette of a Vulture.
