Chapter 217 - 214: Blue Whale (Part 2)
Seeing people on the mount, everyone assumed all three were safe and sound.
But when Xiaoqiu landed, only Jiao Chunzi and Shen Baoying were on its back.
Shen Baoying was still in a semi-conscious state, muttering, "I have to go... let me go..."
Jiang Chengwu stepped forward to check on Shen Baoying, while Zhang Qingfang anxiously asked Jiao Chunzi, "What on earth happened? Where’s Lin Hai? Where is he?"
Jiao Chunzi recounted everything that had happened. When Zhang Qingfang heard that Jiang Linhai had been dragged into the sea by an octopus, she collapsed to the ground, her face a mask of grief and disbelief.
’They were all alive and well. How could this have happened so suddenly?’
’Was it because they were too greedy? Did Heaven have to punish their whole family?’
Jiao Chunzi tried to comfort them. "Please, don’t get too overwrought. There might still be a chance he’s alive."
’After all, she herself had died, then suddenly mutated and come back to life.’
’He fell into the sea... What chance of survival could there be?’
Zhang Qingfang’s heart was wrung with anguish, and she ached for Jiang Si.
’If she finds out how Jiang Linhai died, how will she ever be able to face it?’
Niu Niu’s heart ached as she looked at Shen Baoying’s deathly pale face. With red-rimmed eyes, she asked, "Aunt Shen will be okay, right?"
Grief was useless in a situation like this. Jiang Chengwu had to remain rational. Suppressing his own sorrow, he said, "She has broken ribs. As long as she gets proper rest, it won’t be a major problem." He then turned to Niu Niu. "Could you please help comfort her?"
Sensing that he was planning to search for Jiang Linhai and Jiang Si, Lu Zhifeng stepped forward. "I’ll go with you!"
Jiang Chengwu shook his head firmly. "We can’t afford any more accidents. I’ll go alone. You stay here and protect everyone."
Jiang Chengwu didn’t yet fully trust Bo Xi, Jiao Chunzi, and their group. For now, he could only entrust the Icebreaker to Lu Zhifeng.
Lu Zhifeng understood Jiang Chengwu’s reasoning. It was an unspoken understanding between them, and he gave a solemn nod of agreement.
Zhang Qingfang watched Jiang Chengwu fly away on Xiaodong, with Jiao Chunzi leading the way. She forced herself to pull it together and cook for everyone, but as she worked, the tears began to fall.
When the meal was finally ready, Zhang Qingfang brought a large portion to Qin Shen and Jiang Si’s room, just as she always did.
Qin Shen was still in his White Tiger form, lying quietly on the ground and showing no sign of waking.
Zhang Qingfang stroked his foreleg. She started to smile, but her voice broke into a sob. "Xiao Shen, please wake up. Sisi is still waiting for you. If you don’t go find her, she won’t come back!"
Qin Shen’s eyelids twitched, or perhaps it was just her imagination.
...
As Jiang Si slowly regained consciousness, she found herself on a vast, white expanse of ice.
’Why am I here?’ she wondered, but her head felt like it was splitting apart, and she couldn’t remember a thing.
Qin Shen and the others were gone.
She looked at the locator watch on her wrist, trying to see where on earth she was.
But to her dismay, the watch’s screen was black. It had somehow broken.
Jiang Si’s brow furrowed. Suddenly, the ice under her feet began to make cracking sounds. CRACK! CRACK!
Several cracks spiderwebbed out beneath her feet. Seeing the frozen air bubbles trapped under the surface, Jiang Si finally realized she was on the sea.
But there was nothing around to give her any sense of her location—not even a single cloud in the sky.
She tried to pull a compass and a snowplow out of her personal space, but the cracking beneath her feet grew louder.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK! It sounded as if a giant monster were about to erupt from the sea. Jiang Si started to panic, because it seemed her personal space had suddenly vanished.
She couldn’t retrieve anything. When she tried to access the contents of her space with her mind, she found nothing.
Even her Barrier Space was gone.
She had relied too heavily on her powers since her rebirth. Now that her space was gone, it felt as if a part of her heart had been torn away.
’I clearly absorbed three energy stones, so why did my powers disappear? Why have I become an ordinary person, stranded here all alone?’
Jiang Si had no more time for such thoughts. The ice beneath her shattered into countless fissures, and she lost her footing, tumbling to the ground.
She finally snapped back to reality. ’This is no time to think about anything else. I have to escape!’
She scrambled forward with all her might, but the ice suddenly heaved upward like entire mountain ranges. The surface she was on was no exception, and soon she slid off the ice floe and onto the back of a behemoth.
Jiang Si felt a rubbery texture beneath her. She carefully pushed herself to her feet, only to discover, to her utter astonishment, that she was standing on a giant Blue Whale.
It was as vast as a moving continent. Standing on its back, she was no more than a single, insignificant grain of sand.
Suddenly, a jet of water erupted from beneath her feet like a powerful geyser, launching her into the sky with a WHOOSH.
