Chapter 260: Second Sister-in-law Can Be Quite Cute Sometimes
Charlotte Morgan felt incredibly conflicted.
She knew she couldn’t entirely blame Sierra Sullivan and Jayce for this.
Even if they had chosen either the Vance or Hughes Family, they would have inevitably offended the other. At best, the situation would only be marginally better than it was now.
But... logic was one thing, and feelings were another.
’It’s all because Sierra Sullivan and Jayce are just too powerful.’
’Their Superpowers are so strong, yet they didn’t join the official authorities sooner.’
’If they had just joined up earlier, none of this would be happening!’
The more she thought about it, the more resentful her expression grew.
The resentment was so thick it was almost tangible.
Sierra Sullivan couldn’t ignore it even if she wanted to.
"Charlotte," Sierra Sullivan said, looking over at her. "Actually, there is another solution to this."
"What is it?" Charlotte Morgan asked quickly.
’There’s another way out of this?’
"You could cut ties with us. That way, whatever we do will have nothing to do with you, and you shouldn’t be implicated."
Charlotte Morgan...
Charlotte Morgan, who had been full of resentment just a moment ago, seemed to snap to her senses after hearing that.
She stared at Sierra Sullivan, her voice rising. "Sierra, what kind of person do you take me for? Yes! I admit it, when I first heard about this, I did blame you a little. But isn’t that just human nature?
But to have me cut ties with you over this? Absolutely not! What’s the worst that could happen? We leave Subterra? There are so many of us, we have Superpowers, we won’t starve, and we can protect ourselves. We can make a life for ourselves somewhere else.
Besides, it’s not like this is the only Subterra in the world. We can ask around, find another base, and live there just fine. I refuse to believe those Vances and Hugheses have that long of a reach!"
"Charlotte’s right!" Quinn Everett’s wife, Bella Bauer, chimed in with a firm nod, her voice strong and clear. "Worst-case scenario, we find a new place to live. We’re not gonna let a full bladder be the death of us! We’ve struggled through this tough apocalypse and made it this far. Are we really going to let one little thing drive us to despair?"
Sierra Sullivan was still surprised by Charlotte’s attitude, but she was even more shocked to hear Bella Bauer’s words.
In Sierra Sullivan’s experience, Bella Bauer was a highly educated woman who was always elegant in both word and deed.
Who would have thought a person like her would say something so crude?
She was surprised, but she had to admit, it felt really good.
The attitudes of both Charlotte Morgan and Bella Bauer were a surprise to Sierra, but a pleasant one.
She may not have a family of her own anymore, but Jayce’s family was her family now.
How could she not be happy that Jayce had a family like this?
Quinn Everett pushed up his glasses. "That’s right! As long as we’re all together as a family, there’s no obstacle we can’t overcome."
Tim Everett gritted his teeth. "So what if we have to start over somewhere else? We’ve managed to live well here, and who knows, we might live even better in a new place. What’s there to be afraid of? Jayce, Sierra, don’t worry about us. Just choose whatever you think is best. Oh, and if we really do have to leave Subterra, just give us a heads-up so we can pack our things."
Charlotte Morgan shot a sidelong glance at Tim Everett. "What’s there to pack? You think you need to haul everything in bags? Sierra is a Space Ability User. She can take all your junk with a wave of her hand."
Tim Everett gave a sheepish chuckle and scratched his head. "I was just so worked up, I completely forgot! Well, that makes things even easier! If we want to leave, we can leave at a moment’s notice. We have nothing to worry about then."
Kevin Everett and Yvonne Shelby had been silent the whole time, just listening to the others speak.
But both wore expressions of deep gratification.
As the patriarch and matriarch, they naturally hoped their family would be close-knit and supportive of one another.
There had been some minor friction in the past, but when it came to a major issue like this, their children and their spouses had formed a united front without any prompting. How could they not be proud?
Kevin Everett made the final decision. "Jayce, Sierra, since your brothers and sisters-in-law have all made their positions clear, you two don’t need to feel any pressure. Do what you want to do, choose how you want to choose. We will all support you."
Jayce nodded seriously. "Dad, don’t worry. I’ll think it over carefully."
Sierra added, "We’ll think it over carefully and let everyone know our decision."
’Since Charlotte and the others are being so considerate of us, how can we not consider them when we make our decision?’
Yvonne Shelby stood up with a smile. "All right, this isn’t something that can be decided in a moment. Today is New Year’s Eve, so let’s put this aside for now and have a proper celebration!"
Charlotte Morgan and Bella Bauer immediately got up as well. "That’s right! It’s New Year’s! Let’s prepare a feast and make dumplings!"
Sierra looked at them a bit sheepishly. "We have to go see Captain Grant first... I’ll just take out the ingredients before we go!"
"Go on, go do what you need to do!" Charlotte Morgan said with a wave of her hand. "There are plenty of us here. You think we can’t handle making a meal? Just leave the ingredients and go on your way!"
With a smile, Sierra took out all the ingredients she had prepared in advance, piling them high on the table until it was full.
After leaving the house with Jayce and Candice Tate, Sierra Sullivan whispered, "Charlotte can be pretty cute sometimes."
Jayce laughed at her words. "Don’t let her hear you say that, or she’ll get a big head! Pride comes before a fall, you know!"
Sierra Sullivan nodded in full agreement. "That’s why I’m only saying it to you."
Candice Tate listened to their conversation without a word, simply holding both of their hands and skipping happily ahead.
’She loved this family so much!’
The three of them soon arrived at Hector Grant’s office.
The office door was open, and Hector Grant was inside, head down and buried in paperwork.
Hector Grant looked up, a little surprised to see the three of them. "You’re here already? Have you made up your minds?"
Sierra Sullivan shook her head. "No, we’re still thinking about it. We actually came today to ask for your help with something else, Captain Grant."
Hearing this, Hector Grant couldn’t help but laugh. "You two are really something... You haven’t even agreed to my offer, and you’re already here asking for favors. How can you be so bold?"
Despite his words, Hector Grant showed no sign of refusing.
"All right, what is it? Just say it. If I can help, I will."
"You’re a great man, Captain Grant!" Sierra said, laying on the praise. "We want to see Dr. Hayes. Do you know where he is, Captain? Could you arrange for us to meet him?"
Hector Grant smiled and nodded. "Is that all? I was wondering what it was! Of course. If you’re in a hurry, I can take you to him right now!"
