Chapter 226: Sierra Sullivan, Jayce, Are We Going to Help?
Hector Grant’s heart was in his throat the moment he stepped out the main gate.
It was impossible not to be nervous.
Even though many others had already made it through successfully.
But as long as they hadn’t reached the vehicles, Hector Grant couldn’t rest easy.
Seeing that they were halfway there, Hector Grant quickened his pace.
At the same time, he didn’t forget to hurry the others along.
"Hurry up!"
But the more they tried to hurry, the more prone they were to problems.
A Space Ability User had just lifted his foot when he tripped.
The Space Ability Users were huddled in the center, packed tightly together.
One person tripped, and those beside him instinctively reached out to help.
Not only did they fail, but they ended up getting pulled down as well.
This caused a chain reaction.
One after another, people fell to the ground.
Hector Grant heard the commotion behind him, stopped, and turned to look.
When he saw the people who had fallen, his brow twitched violently.
"What are you doing? Get up, now!"
"You! Get them up, quickly."
Hector Grant was speaking to his men.
They tensed up and immediately moved to help.
But before they could move forward, something suddenly shot out of the sand.
They burst from the sand like accelerated bamboo shoots, giving no one a chance to react.
Before they could even get a clear look at what had emerged, they were struck down by Superpowers.
Hector Grant, however, reacted quickly. He immediately launched a counterattack while ordering his men to protect the Space Ability Users.
"Don’t panic! We’ll cover you! Get to the vehicles, now!"
Hector Grant shouted himself hoarse, but few people listened.
They were caught right between the vehicles and the warehouse.
They could run toward the vehicles, or back toward the warehouse.
The calmer ones still listened to Hector Grant’s order to get to the vehicles.
But others, scared out of their wits by the scene, had their minds go blank and instinctively ran back the way they came.
Running back toward the warehouse, however, meant they had no cover from Hector Grant and his men, leaving their backs completely exposed.
A zombie charged forward, its long-nailed hand punching straight through a man’s back.
A gaping, bloody hole appeared in the person’s torso.
The zombie held the bright red, still-beating heart in its hand and lifted it to its mouth.
The sight made many of them so nauseous they nearly vomited.
Hector Grant watched, his eyes wide with rage.
"Run for the vehicles! If you don’t want to die, run for the vehicles!"
After witnessing that, those who had been running around in a blind panic decisively chose to obey Hector Grant.
When he saw them finally change direction and run for the vehicles, Hector Grant breathed a sigh of relief.
Hector Grant and his men escorted the Space Ability Users, providing cover as he yelled at the three vehicles.
"Get down here and help! Or none of us are getting out of here! You’ll just be trapped in those vehicles until you die!"
The Superpower Users in the vehicles exchanged looks, their expressions complex and conflicted.
But whether they wanted to admit it or not, Hector Grant was right.
If they didn’t get out and help, they’d be trapped. None of them could drive the vehicles, they didn’t have the keys, and they had no food or water. They would simply be stuck there until they died.
Their only chance of getting out of here alive was to get out of the vehicles and fight the zombies alongside Hector Grant’s team.
The vehicle doors opened. One by one, the Superpower Users filed out and ran toward Hector Grant.
With their help, the Space Ability Users managed to board the vehicles one by one.
When the last Space Ability User had boarded, Hector Grant finally breathed a sigh of relief and focused wholeheartedly on dealing with the zombies.
Although the zombies had Superpowers, their power levels were clearly not very high.
Since they were also outnumbered by Hector Grant’s group, they quickly lost the upper hand.
With victory in sight, many people breathed a sigh of relief.
But just then, more zombies erupted from the sand.
In the distance, swarms of figures were also charging in their direction.
Even though they couldn’t make out what they were, the sheer scale of the commotion gave them a good idea.
It had to be a horde of Aberrant Beasts.
Any relief Hector Grant had felt vanished completely, and his heart leaped back into his throat.
At the same time, he was bewildered.
’Why is this happening?’
’If someone is controlling the zombies, then what about the Aberrant Beasts?’
’Could someone actually control a horde of Aberrant Beasts?’
’If that’s true, it’s too terrifying.’
’What kind of person could possess that kind of power?’
’And if it is a person, why are they using zombies and Aberrant Beasts to attack us?’
These questions flashed through Hector Grant’s mind one by one.
But the current situation gave him no time to dwell on them.
The only thing he could do now was fight with all his might to eliminate every last zombie and Aberrant Beast.
Sierra Sullivan and her companions could also see the situation outside clearly.
The longer she watched, the graver Sierra Sullivan’s expression grew.
’My guess was right.’
The ’brains’ of the operation controlling the zombies was indeed clever.
When the earlier groups went out, the ’brains’ made no move.
But as soon as Hector Grant left with the defenseless Space Ability Users, the ’brains’ struck, catching him completely off guard.
If Hector Grant and his men hadn’t been so capable, they likely would have been wiped out already.
Nathan Thorne stared, dumbfounded. "Wh-what is all this?!"
Sierra Sullivan didn’t answer, and Jayce didn’t make a sound.
Nathan Thorne didn’t mind that they didn’t answer his question.
He just stared into the distance for a moment before asking another question.
"Sierra, Jayce, are we going to help them?"
They now had two choices.
First, they could just close the door.
Whatever happened outside would be none of their business.
Second, they could go and help.
But it was hard to say what the outcome of that would be.
Nathan Thorne had already made up his mind when he asked the question.
But he still wanted to see what Sierra and Jayce would choose.
Sierra could guess why Nathan asked, but she didn’t answer right away. Instead, she looked down at Candice Tate.
"Candice, will you be scared if you stay here by yourself?"
Upon hearing this, Candice immediately clutched the hem of Sierra’s shirt. "Sierra, I can go with you!"
’She didn’t want to be left here alone.’
’Even if going out meant dying, at least she would die with Sierra.’
’She would rather die with Sierra than be left here all by herself.’
"Candice, you saw what it’s like out there. It’s really dangerous. If you come out with me, I might not be able to protect you. But I can promise you this: as soon as it’s over, I’ll come right back for you, okay?"
