Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Chapter 222: Whoever Makes a Scene Gets Fed to the Zombies

Hector Grant rubbed his nose, a little embarrassed.

He had just noticed the tense atmosphere and wanted to say something to lighten the mood.

But now it seemed he really didn’t have a talent for telling jokes.

Hector Grant cleared his throat. "All right, no more messing around. Let’s get down to business."

Jayce raised an eyebrow. "Who’s the one messing around, exactly?"

Hector Grant pretended not to hear Jayce. His expression had become completely serious. "You just said it looked familiar. Have you seen this type of zombie somewhere before?"

Jayce didn’t answer right away, instead giving Hector Grant a meaningful look.

He waited until Hector Grant, feeling a bit flustered, averted his gaze. Only then did Jayce slowly begin to speak. "The last time we went into a residential complex, it was filled with zombies that were being raised by someone. Later, as we were leaving the base, a horde of zombies rushed out to attack us. Some of them had Superpowers, and they gave off the same feeling as these ones. That’s why it felt familiar."

Hearing Jayce’s explanation, Hector Grant’s expression immediately grew stern. "Why didn’t you mention something so important before?"

"You never asked!"

"..."

’He’s not wrong.’

This wasn’t the time to be arguing about such things.

Hector Grant glanced at the severed hand on the floor, then looked outside. "If what you’re saying is true, then we’re likely surrounded by zombies, and they probably all have Superpowers."

"There’s more," Sierra Sullivan said, voicing her own theory. "Not only do they have Superpowers, but I suspect they’re being controlled by a single mind. As for whether the master of that mind is human or a zombie, I’m not sure."

"Something this important, and you—"

Hector Grant almost repeated what he had just said.

But the words died on his lips as he realized his mistake and swallowed them back down.

The words may have been unsaid, but his eyes clearly revealed his thoughts.

Sierra Sullivan saw it all clearly but pretended she hadn’t.

Hector Grant also knew this wasn’t the time for petty squabbles.

The most important thing was to figure out their current situation and come up with a solution.

He organized his thoughts for a moment before speaking slowly. "If the situation is really as you describe, then we’re in a very bad spot. With those zombies waiting outside, we’re basically fish in a barrel. Getting out won’t be easy."

Sierra Sullivan nodded in agreement. "Although I can’t be certain the situation outside is exactly as I’ve described, based on what we know, getting out of here will indeed be difficult."

"Do you have any good ideas?" Hector Grant looked at Sierra Sullivan with hopeful eyes.

He knew it. Bringing Sierra and her team was the absolute right decision.

If he hadn’t brought them along, they probably would have had to sacrifice many lives just to figure out what was going on outside.

As Hector Grant thought this, his gaze grew even more eager.

Being stared at like that by Hector Grant, even Sierra Sullivan felt a little strange.

"Captain Grant, why are you looking at me like that? I honestly don’t have any good ideas right now. I’m not familiar with this place. If there were another exit, maybe we wouldn’t be trapped like rats in a cage."

Hector Grant sighed. "Of course I understand what you’re saying, but the reality is, there are no other exits."

He had no idea what the designer of this place had been thinking, not even leaving a single backup exit.

But it was obviously useless to dwell on that now.

They could only try to find another way.

Sierra Sullivan also knew they had to find another way, but since nothing came to mind immediately, she remained silent.

Just then, the man who had nearly died at the hands of the zombie finally snapped out of it and scrambled up from the floor.

"I want to go back to Subterra! I want to go back right now! Just let me go back, I don’t want a single Contribution Point! I just want to go back!"

He was shouting clamorously, his expression clearly showing the psychological aftermath of his near-death experience.

Beyond that was just a desperate urge to return to Subterra.

Sierra Sullivan could understand how he felt.

He had just walked the razor’s edge of death. It was only normal that his mind hadn’t calmed down yet and he was extremely agitated.

"Captain Grant! You brought me here! You have to send me back! I want to go back now!"

He kept shouting, even trying to rush forward and grab Hector Grant’s arm to shake him.

But after one cold glance from Hector Grant, the man froze on the spot, not daring to move an inch.

He desperately wanted to go back and was highly emotional, but he wasn’t completely irrational.

Seeing that the man had finally quieted down, Hector Grant sneered. "When I recruited you, I made it perfectly clear that this mission would be dangerous. I told you to be mentally prepared, or not to come at all.

The fact that you’re here means you all knew the risks existed. You just got lucky the whole way here, thinking no real danger would come. Now that it has, you can’t handle it? You want to run back to Subterra immediately? Life doesn’t work that way.

If you keep playing dumb and interfering with my work, I’ll open that door myself and throw you out to distract the zombies and buy us time to escape."

Even though they knew Hector Grant was probably just angry and speaking out of frustration—that he would never actually do it—everyone was still startled into silence.

Seeing that everyone had quieted down and wouldn’t dare make another sound, Hector Grant snorted coldly and turned away from them.

With Hector Grant’s gaze no longer on them, everyone secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Hector Grant called his trusted subordinates over to discuss their next move.

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce were also included.

Sierra Sullivan listened to Hector Grant and the others discuss without saying a word.

They talked and talked, but they didn’t really come up with any new ideas.

The situation was laid out clearly before them.

They could either stay here, where they were at least safe and had food and water.

But obviously, that wasn’t an option.

Hector Grant wouldn’t even consider it.

Excluding that option left only one other choice.

Open the door.

Hector Grant quickly made his decision. "Then we open the door! But this time, after we open it, we’re not going out."

The zombies outside wanted to trap them, but what if they refused to come out?

They would just open the door and see who lost their nerve first.

If the zombies outside rushed in, even better.

With so many Superpower Users here, they could surely handle any zombies that managed to get in.

Hearing Hector Grant’s words, Sierra Sullivan nodded in approval. "That’s certainly one way to solve this."

’Whether it works or not, we have to try!’
