Lyris’s body began to float upward as she closed her eyes. A massive pillar of golden light tore open from the heavens and landed directly on her floating body. Her pale skin started to shine brighter as the whole space around her was swallowed by the golden expanse. Her raven-black hair started to sway gracefully around her, and the Divine mark on her back reacted eagerly to the pillar of divine energy.

Lyris felt like her body and soul had become much purer than they already were. It was a different feeling, much stronger than when she had absorbed the ocean of divine energy. The light felt warmer as her skin became lighter, vanishing any non-existent impurities lingering inside her body and soul.

Just as Lyris thought the intense process was over, the golden light from her mark suddenly expanded. It swallowed her completely, forming a dense cocoon made of divine energy tightly around her, so she couldn’t see anything or comprehend the outside world.

As she opened her eyes and looked around the confined space, she sat there floating as small sparkles of divinity danced around her, sparkling like tiny stars. Just as she lifted her hand to touch a sparkle, the tiny golden light turned into a vibrant violet sparkle and absorbed seamlessly inside her body.

Her violet eyes sparkled as she looked around and touched more of the golden lights, which rapidly converted into violet sparkles and absorbed into her. As her divine mark shone with that same violet light, the sparkles of divinity shifted. A large violet orb overflowing with pure divinity entered the cocoon and floated gently in front of her.

Lyris looked at the orb. It gave an unmistakable sense of familiarity; she already knew exactly what it was. If she wanted to, she could still change her destiny right now and stop the awakening. It would stop many of her future problems, and the greedy people who would come after her to take that power would also be lessened. But seeing that orb floating in front of her, and feeling her destiny which was attached to it, she didn’t feel like letting it go.

’There is no way to change my destiny even if I wanted to... Even if I chose not to become it now, it doesn’t mean my problems are going to die completely. In order to walk into my ’path’, this power will surely grant me the greatest of benefits...’

Lyris closed her eyes and inhaled deeply as she finally accepted her destiny, choosing not to back down anymore.

After sensing Lyris’s acceptance, the floating orb—or more appropriately, the ’Saintess Essence’—slowly absorbed right into her chest. A warm pulse of violet divinity spread around her heart as her whole body started to give off a brilliant violet glow.

Alen stood outside, near the throne, looking up into the sky as a massive golden cocoon enveloped her figure. His curiosity was piqued as a weird sensation went creeping through him. He also noticed the pitch-black shade on one point of the seven-pointed star on his palm had started to glow with a violet divinity incredibly similar to hers.

Suddenly, the golden cocoon started to crack. A crackling violet divinity started to sparkle around it like an electric current. A thick pillar of violet rays tore right through the cocoon, thinning out the pillar of golden light. As the space through the heavens closed, Lyris appeared. Her body emitted an unmistakable, pure divinity. Magnificent violet ethereal wings manifested behind her back. Her figure looked breathtakingly beautiful against the white sky as she slowly descended near him, as the wing made of pure divinity disintegrated slowly, vanishing into the air.

Alen looked at her. He felt an unknown sense of deep connection with her which he couldn’t quite comprehend. The violet glow around his palm lessened as the pitch-black shade retained its original color.

Lyris opened her eyes, staring at the world with a new, vibrant glow in her irises. She felt freer than she ever had been. Just as she was stepping forward to talk with him, a prompt appeared.

Her gaze fell on the system interface. Curiosity piqued her, as she didn’t know what this specific ability was actually used for.

’I didn’t know that I would actually be able to gain a ’Black’ star, as only 1% of people among the total Awakeners ever get that. I hope it will be useful....’

’Well, whatever, let’s check what it is...’

Without waiting any more time, she mentally clicked ’Y’. She looked at the screen with a hopeful expression; as her first Star ability, it was going to define her further journey as an Ascender.

A small, imperceptible smile tugged on her lips as she looked at her Supreme Ability. The power was more than just useful; it was completely overpowered on its own terms. Even if she was weaker than an opponent in front of her, if given enough time to spiral, she could easily outmatch any other enemies.

As her eyes fell on the ’Divine Protection’ notification, she felt slightly confused. She didn’t remember having any kind of ’Divine Protection’, but she remembered absorbing the vast ocean of divinity earlier. It was probably a effect of that.

As the violet glow in her body started to subside and absorb seamlessly inside her, her mark also returned to its original state. She looked to the front, noticing Alen standing there with his arms folded, tapping his shoe in the air while looking thoroughly bored.

’Oh, it seems I was so lost in a daze looking at the screen that I forgot to notice he was waiting here. Hehe... Let’s go then. I can’t make him wait. We have to leave this place after all.’

She stepped closer to him. They nodded to each other without speaking, as both were wrapped up in the moment of their own racing thoughts.

The white throne before them spoke again.

{It is nice seeing you both have awakened amazing power. I hope your future journey will remain peaceful and exciting...}

Lyris’s eyes widened as the throne began to dissolve into light. Just behind the fading throne, a giant whirlpool in space started to spin rapidly as a Dimensional Gate tore open—the exit which would lead them back out to the real world.

"Wait, can you tell us who you are? You can’t just be a throne, can you? You are vastly different from any other being I faced in the Ascension Realm..."

The disintegrating throne chuckled as he answered one last time in a blurring, fading voice.

{Haha... Smart girl. I am just a fragment of consciousness of a being who once reached the 7th Stage and died here... I waited for several centuries to see if anyone would ever reach the end which I couldn’t cross... It seems no one has ever achieved that yet, but I hope someone may in the future...}

The throne completely disappeared, leaving only the two figures remaining in the white expanse. Alen looked at Lyris’s dazed expression as she stared at the empty space where the throne had stood. He reached forward and lightly flicked her forehead.

"Ouch... What was that for?..."

Lyris rubbed her forehead at his playful flicking, glaring at him.

"You’re going into a daze again. Let’s return first before the gate closes; you can busy yourself with day-dreaming later..."

Lyris’s eyes widened as a hint of redness appeared on her cheeks while he started to walk casually toward the swirling gate.

"Hey! I wasn’t day-dreaming, I—I was just thinking!"

"Yeah, yeah, now go before I leave you here forever... Mr.—oh sorry, I mean, Miss Lyris..."

Lyris glared daggers at his back, but she walked faster to cross the distance, stepping up right beside him. As they stood in front of the Dimensional Gate, they knew their journey was definitely going to change from this moment onward. New problems were surely waiting for them in the outside world. But now, armed with far stronger power in their arsenal, they didn’t have to worry about anything.

They stepped forward together. As they walked inside, the dimensional gate closed behind them, leaving the white expanse completely empty once again.
