Chapter 289: Time To Return Home
"Is that important?" Logan asked.
"Of course it is. At a critical moment like this, everything depends on you and Mercer. Look at them." Lilith pointed toward the orb. Among the swarm of monsters, seven beasts weren’t moving. There was a humanoid figure among them. Black lines ran through his face, two pitch-black horns jutting out from his head. Though he had human-like skin, a tail whipped behind him now and then. In the middle of black, his blue pupils moved left and right, observing the battle. Nothing shook him, as if those few monsters dying didn’t mean anything to him. He wasn’t emanating any aura, yet his presence felt like a calamity waiting to be unleashed.
"Do you see that beast in the middle? The one with blue eyes and human-like features. He’s a primordial dragon. A divine beast. A Cultivation God realm beast. And those six around him? No one is weaker than a Seventh-stage God Ascension realm cultivator. Then look here." As the scenario shifted in the orb, Lilith pointed toward another middle-aged man. His face told her he was older, experienced, yet his skin was smooth like a young person’s, with no wrinkles anywhere. He was beaming with vitality. "That middle-aged person is also a Cultivation God. And..." The scenario shifted again. She was about to point out another figure when her body trembled slightly. In the orb, there were countless red figures as well. Demons. And amidst the swarm of demons, a figure stood proudly. A woman. Crimson skin, slender but curvy figure. Black hair cascaded over her shoulders as a pair of black horns jutted out. Her canine teeth were slightly extended. "She, too, is a Cultivation God. Worse... She is a demon. If you aren’t strong enough, the Empire will fall for sure. The moment the restrictions against cultivators above the Immortal Soul realm are temporarily blocked, this Empire will be done for." She said in a serious tone.
Logan watched all of them with a calm expression. The Primordial dragon, the human cultivator, and the demon. "Yes. They really are troublesome."
"And?" Lilith asked.
"And what?"
"Do you think you can handle all of them on your own when the restrictions are blocked?"
"I will try."
"You will try?" Lilith narrowed her eyes. "Does that mean you are also in the same realm?"
"Who knows." Logan shrugged.
Seeing that Logan had no intention to reveal his cultivation realm, Lilith could only sigh.
Meanwhile, the traps were slowly being neutralized. The long-range attackers close to the border started becoming overwhelmed due to the sheer number of monsters.
Five more monsters crossed the border.
One, a giant centipede. Second, a sea monster, a giant crab. Third, a black panther. Fourth, a colossal griffin. And fifth, a long serpent.
Logan pulled the bowstring once more. This time, his fist was pulled behind his head.
Before those monsters could unleash their attacks...
Logan let go of the bowstring.
Instantly, five arcs of lightning erupted from the bow and vanished. The speed was so fast that almost none could even follow.
But everyone heard the air howling. Like roars, something whistled through the air at frightening speed.
The centipede’s body slithered forward. A muscular man bolted forward with a shield. But the moment the shield struck the centipede, he was sent flying. The centipede moved forward, rushing toward its next target.
But...
Something flashed by and entered through its maw. The centipede’s body started swelling from the head, reaching toward its head as cracks appeared in its body.
Hisssssssssssssss!
It hissed loudly before a booming sound shook the area.
The crab’s claws sliced through the air. But before they could tear apart any target, lightning crackled in the air once. And the next moment... It was blasted into oblivion.
The other three monsters were also destroyed before they could even reach anyone from the Flame Empire.
In the horde of the monsters and cultivators from higher Heavens, the middle-aged man with the cultivation of a Cultivation God realm watched everything unfold.
Suddenly, a man in armour approached him. "Master, the barrier is set. The Eternals won’t be able to detect our energy anymore."
The middle-aged man cracked his neck to the side a little. "Then it’s time to wrap it up quickly."
The demon girl also noticed the change in the air. Her gaze darted toward a specific direction in the Flame Empire. "Logan. It’s time for you to return home." Her lips curved into a smile.
The primordial dragon didn’t say anything.
More and more monsters crossed the border. All the traps were used by now. The long-range attackers from the Flame Empire were slowly being pushed back.
Logan saw everything in the orb. "Tell the knights to leave the front and join the long-range attackers in the center. Now, the close combat experts will engage." He told Lilith.
Lilith nodded and quickly passed down her order to a few members who instantly left the place. Mercer was already back by now.
"Is it time for us to engage?" Mercer asked.
"Seems like it."
"Can we really win?" Mercer asked, his gaze fixated at the front.
"Only time will say."
Monsters poured in like bees. The ground rumbled under the combined footsteps.
The Dark Blood appeared in Mercer’s hand. His body started to morph. His head blackened, turning like a bull’s. Muscles bulged as he transformed into a bucentaur.
"I will move out first." He said before storming forward, dust rose behind him. Logan, meanwhile, still didn’t move. Instead, he closed his eyes.
A giant figure walked forward. It was at least ten meters tall. Crimson skin, horns jutting out from the head. He was only wearing a hide covering his lower body. His long hair and long beard almost made it impossible to see its face clearly. It had two pairs of arms. Two double-bladed axes in two arms, and two chained maces in the other two.
Five cultivators from the Flame Empire stormed toward the crimson creature. "Kill that demon." One of them, who was at the front, roared. The other four brandished their weapons behind him.
The demon made its move. It swung one of the chained maces. The spiky head whistled through the air and went straight toward a cultivator.
The cultivator was carrying a shield and a sword. He immediately raised the sword to stop the attack. But the moment the mace struck the shield, he felt a crushing force pressing down on him from the side. His body arced like a bow before he was sent flying.
Before the other four could react, the other mace in the demon’s hand moved as well. It struck the chin of a burly man who was swinging a battlehammer. His feet left the ground as blood sprayed from his mouth.
One of the five cultivators closed in sneakily and thrust a sword forward from behind.
The demon’s right arm, carrying the axe, slashed backward.
Clanggggg!
A deafening sound erupted like a wave as the man was pushed back, his hands feeling numb from the last attack. But he quickly regained control and dashed forward once more.
The demon attacked again. This time, facing the attack head-on, the cultivator twisted his body a little and drove the sword forward.
Just before the sword could strike, the demon turned toward him at lightning speed and kicked him.
Whoooosh!
He was sent flying as well.
The remaining two stopped attacking. Instead, they started stepping back. "Damn it! It’s strong. Our demon-purging aura can in no way kill it." What should we do?" One of them whispered. The other one was too afraid to even talk.
The demon had no time to waste. It tossed the two axes and grabbed them like spears. The next moment, he hurled them forward. The sharp axe heads cut through the air.
Those two froze in fear.
Meanwhile, back at the capital, Logan leaned forward slightly. White-blue energy danced along his feet. Lightning flickered in his eyes too.
Lilith looked at him because a sudden surge of power was suffocating her. She saw Logan only for a brief moment before Logan vanished from his position. A few leaves billowed in the air. No dust rose. No crater in the ground. It was as if the environment couldn’t even process how fast Logan had left the place.
A crimson streak tore through the air. The air roared.
The two axes, which were just about to strike those two cultivators, suddenly stopped mid-air and were tossed in the air as a strong gust of wind hit them. Dust and smoke rose due to the impact of momentum and a sudden burst of heat.
As the dust slowly settled, the demon saw a figure standing before those two cultivators. His black hair fluttered in the air. The figure’s look was ordinary, clothes shabby.
The moment Logan stood up, the demon’s pupils contracted. It stared at Logan with pure fear. "Y-you! It’s you?"
Logan didn’t answer and waved his right hand like a sword. A crimson arc of energy left his hand and went through the demon
The crimson creature froze, slowly looking down.
