Thrust Into His Arms

Chapter 99 Not An Ideal Love

I got through the remaining school hours without Calyx showing his face to me. I felt happy about it even though it was strange. Was he sparing me for the time being? He is so unpredictable. I wasn’t sure what my life would look like in the morning. When school dismissed, I had taken a careful scan before rushing into Curry’s car to hitch a ride home. Yep. She has a car. A nice sports car. Turns out she is also on the rich level but is so nice and humble to a doormat point.

Two days and Calyx has not yet shown up to disturb me. Which of course, is nice but also spooky. Did he actually listened to what I told him or is he geering up more hell?

Whatever he wants, he is welcome to do it. I’m also welcome from doing whatever I want in retribution. It is too early to say that my school life is going normal. That is if being gang beaten and also slipping and falling on ice cream that someone must have intentionally put on the floor could count as normal. But at least I have clearheaded time to put myself into studying and trying to get and maintain excellent grades. And also swimming. There is a reason I can’t drop the sport even though I have gotten traumatized and sensitive to it thanks to someone. It’s because it is really nice and benefiting. It is more than just being taught and being made perfect on how to swim. They get to go and compete in nationals. I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket by only studying. I’m good at swimming. Who knows I might just decide to become a professional swimmer. I can almost envision it. Me getting first place on a national competition with a large crowd cheering for me. My receiving a gold medal. Someone putting it on me. Ah. If only reality were as easy as dreams. You just envision them and poof! They come to life.

About being gang beaten. . . Brooke herself and three other girls had ambushed me I’m the swimming locker room yesterday. I managed to fight one and was able to barely escape them. I had ran out in my swimsuit which had almost gotten me detention and made me the center of more crude, sexualizing remarks. They got to me again when I was coming out of the medic hall where I had gone to get medication for a bad headache. I happen to be familiar with one of the school’s nurses, Mrs Edna. She and my step Aunt Piper are besties—I don’t know if I should be worried about her. Brooke even brought a fruit knife the second time. She had swung it at me with vicious killing intent. A shudder runs through me at the thought of what if she has succeeded. Someone came to my rescue and joined me in fighting them, unexpectedly. Courtney. She had hit Brooke so hard in the face that I feel like she is going to need to be admitted in a hospital. I fought off one, while the remaining two ran away. Courtney was gone before I could thank her. I don’t know why she joined in to help. I’m very grateful that she did though. It is still surreal to me. But it was her. Up until yesterday, I thought she and Brooke got along. Yunno, bitches and bitches should not have a problem since they are like birds of the same feather. But the way she had beaten Brooke up yesterday tells me she strongly dislikes her. All the more reason I’m expecting Calyx to come at me today. I’m in the washroom watching Curry enthusiastically put on her cheerleading uniform. A black short skirt and a black shirt with a white upper body that is similar to a tank top. "I cannot believe that I’m finally wearing this!" She gushes, doing small excited jumps. I smile, feeling happy at her accomplishment. She had been talking me and Maverick’s ear off about how she really wished to be part of the cheerleading team. She has always been rejected—according to her. But today, her wish finally got granted. "Can I come in now?" Maverick yells tiredly from the door. "Not that I’m keen or interested. I just want to see how ugly you would look in that." Curry huffs before she marches to open the door and drag in Maverick. More like he allowed himself to be dragged in by her. "It has been a while since I smacked this head of yours. You should have just told me that you miss it." She says. I stifle a laugh watching them squabble like kids fighting over candy. I really want to comment and tell them how good they look together. Enemies to lovers is an interesting romance subgenre that never gets old.

But I keep quiet because I know that I would be eaten alive if I say anything remotely close to that.

They are still not that comfortable with their names being used in one sentence, much more that. And they are both gay. They are kind of getting along now. But still not totally. She sees him as useless, while he dislikes her because he thinks she follows Courtney around like an helpless stray puppy because she is in love with Courtney. I did not quickly believe Maverick. But I found it exactly true later on.

I have seen how Curry is around Courtney. She literally allows herself to be used like a doormat and a classic 21st century lady-in-waiting.

Not just Courtney, but also her friends. What baffles me the most is that she is actually on almost the same level as them. She is not a scholarship student like Maverick and I. But she gets treated worse. Maverick sees her as spineless because of it. I cannot say he is wrong. They say love is blind and it makes you foolish. Her’s isn’t just blind. It is pitch black blind. The type that one would be deprived of sight and colors even in my mind’s eye.

I don’t want a love like that. It’s not an ideal love.
