Chapter 487 - 486: The Recording
Chapter 487: Chapter 486: The Recording
Location:Seven Peaks — Command CenterDate/Time:TC1856.01.13 (Morning)
The command center was full for the first time since the sovereignty declaration.
Raven had called everyone. Not just the core team — the full leadership circle. Coop at the analysis station, his lattice already interfacing with the crystal housing. Shen Wuyan in her chair by the wall, eight and a half centuries of composure arranged in perfect stillness. Lin Yue beside her, hands folded. Silas at the formation controls. Commander Sera Vahn in full Anvil Corps dress. Bjorn standing because Bjorn always stood. Lira Feng in the corner.
Kairos stood at the back of the room. Sword against the wall. Arms folded. The ice-blue eyes carrying the specific focus of a being who had spent the night feeling a pulse on his wrist and was now about to see what the pulse had walked through.
Fifteen recording crystals sat on the table.
"What you’re about to see was recorded last night inside the growth zone," Raven said. "Some of it is difficult. None of it is exaggerated. Watch it once. Then we talk."
She activated the first crystal.

The room watched.
The drainage tunnel — crawling through warm, breathing tissue. The performing city — geometric walkers, empty baskets, hollow buildings with organic chambers behind painted facades. The transition zone — architecture curving, connecting corridors of living tissue linking building to building.
Then the breeding chambers.
The pods appeared on the crystal’s display and the room stopped breathing. Rows of translucent membranes. Bodies inside — alive, eyes closed, chests rising and falling. The developing larvae visible through formation-enhanced imaging. Chamber after chamber. Rows after rows.
Lin Yue made a sound. Quiet. The sound of a woman who had locked an audit file in a drawer recognizing a horror that operated on the same principle: people consumed, bodies repurposed.
7T9 spoke into the silence. "Estimated twelve hundred to eighteen hundred active incubation pods in the visible section. Average larval count: 2.4 per host body. Production rate: three thousand to five thousand parasites per month. Active for approximately twenty-one months. Conservative estimate of total parasite output: sixty-three thousand to one hundred and five thousand units."
A hundred thousand.
The number sat in the room like something too heavy for the table. The continental detection network had found fewer than two hundred. The breeding chambers produced thousands every month.
Coop spoke from the analysis station. "She’s not an enemy. She’s an ecology. A self-sustaining biological system with its own production, distribution, and intelligence infrastructure. You don’t fight an ecology. It grows back."
The crystal continued.
The central chamber. The dome. Four hundred meters. The green light.
And the creature.
Fifteen meters at the thorax. Insectoid. Six limbs. Dark carapace. The tendrils running into every surface — walls, floor, ceiling. The orbiting lights — thousands of them, turning in patient circles.
Bjorn’s fists clenched at his sides. Commander Sera Vahn’s hand moved to her belt — the unconscious gesture of a soldier reaching for a weapon. Shen Wuyan’s hands went white on her chair arms.
