He’d have to be crazy to let Elizabeth just roll over for Alexander and give up all her leverage.

Although it seemed the mission couldn’t be completed anytime soon, judging by Alexander’s slowing heartbeat and the Jester’s Skull’s assessment, the power struggle wouldn’t be far off.

Besides, the Jester’s Skull had just said that the one billion USD in Elizabeth’s hands was one of the resources Alexander absolutely had to get.

On a personal level, he also wanted Elizabeth to get something good out of this situation.

"Since you don’t want to do it," Li Wei said without hesitation, "then refuse him."

"Refuse him..." Elizabeth trembled just thinking about that option.

The cruel scenes from the dinner party flooded her mind again: Timothy’s humiliation, Alister’s wretched state, so terrified he couldn’t even make a sound.

The shadow of tyranny that had loomed over her entire life still had its grip on her throat.

"Didn’t you see how terrifying he is?" Tears welled up in Elizabeth’s eyes. "My dad’s already been exiled to the United Kingdom... No one can defy his decisions, and I don’t have a vote... I’m not on the board."

As she spoke, she instinctively threw her arms around Li Wei’s waist, pressing her cheek against his stomach.

Li Wei could feel her body trembling in his arms.

He didn’t push her away. Instead, he reached out and stroked Elizabeth’s satiny blonde hair.

Holding onto Li Wei, Elizabeth gradually felt the fear gripping her body begin to subside.

She didn’t know it was Li Wei’s Knight’s Aura · First Sequence (Silver) taking effect. All she knew was that in her heart, there was nothing Li Wei couldn’t do.

The only person in this family from whom she could find a constant sense of security wasn’t her own relatives, but, surprisingly, the outsider, Li Wei.

That was why, when faced with this problem, she hadn’t subconsciously sought out her father, but had instead found herself at Li Wei’s door.

Feeling the warmth radiating from his body, the gloom and fear brought on by her grandfather Alexander and this ancient manor seemed to melt away completely, like snowflakes in the blazing sun.

"Don’t panic. Think about it," Li Wei said. "If the resources you have were really worthless to him, why would he have called you and your father back?"

Elizabeth thought about it and realized he was right.

"One billion USD is not a small sum," Li Wei continued. "It could even be used as leverage for several billion more from the banks. Without touching the family foundation’s funds, how significant do you think that amount is? Your grandfather definitely needs this money, which is why just handing it over would be throwing away all your leverage."

"It’s alright. Trust me," his hand gently slipped to the roots of her hair, then smoothed it down. "I’ll make sure you’re crowned queen."

But all Elizabeth felt in that moment was a tingling sensation that spread through her entire body as her heart began to race uncontrollably.

"W-What are you saying..." Her arms around Li Wei tightened. "I... I know what to do now. I’ll try to convince my dad to vote no."

She let go of Li Wei and looked up at him. He, in turn, looked down at her.

For a moment, a strange feeling spread between them. The scent of Elizabeth’s perfume and her youthful energy mingled with the smell of Li Wei’s body wash, interweaving as the warmth between them grew.
