American Adventure: My Uncle is Don Quixote

Chapter 393 - 251: Night, Li Wei and Elizabeth

Alexander glanced around. Seeing that no one dared to raise any objections after the little Christmas game, he nodded in satisfaction.

"Also, I’m suddenly feeling quite good," he said, looking at Timothy. "Once the Free Port is built, you can start as the vice president. Get some more training."

Noticing the grim faces and somber atmosphere, Alexander changed his tune.

"Of course, I’m not some dictator who can’t listen to reason," he said, stroking his thick white beard. "This is a great undertaking concerning the future of our branch. Everyone, rest well, think it over carefully. Tomorrow at 9 a.m., those with voting rights, along with family members and the foundation’s teams, will come to the conference room for a vote by show of hands."

With that, he ignored everyone, not even sparing a glance at his eldest son, Timothy, who stood like a waiter. He turned and left the grand dining hall with Silvia and his legal team.

Just as he passed by Li Wei, the Chattering Court Jester’s Skull began to dance about excitedly.

’What a spectacular power grab. The old King is as arrogant as ever.’

’But I can smell the fear in his heart... wait, why did I say smell? I don’t even have a nose.’

’He wants to hide this from the suzerain state; he wants to hide it from everyone.’

’He desperately needs the large sum of Gold Coins in the hands of the little Princess you support, but he’s hiding it well.’

Li Wei raised his wine glass and drained it in one gulp.

...

「Nightfall.」

Having signed the non-disclosure agreements, everyone made their way to the guest quarters of the Long Island Manor.

The blizzard outside was still raging. Li Wei had just finished a hot shower and was about to dry his hair before going to talk to Elizabeth about Alexander’s plan when a series of urgent knocks came from the door.

Slipping on his slippers, Li Wei walked over and turned the doorknob.

It was Elizabeth. She seemed to have hurried over, her chest rising and falling slightly.

However, the moment the door opened and she saw Li Wei in his bathrobe, the words she was about to say caught in her throat.

Li Wei had been a bit vigorous while drying his hair, and the top button of his bathrobe had come undone, leaving his well-defined pectoral muscles and chiseled eight-pack abs completely exposed.

An unnatural blush instantly spread across Elizabeth’s face, and she reflexively averted her gaze.

"Oh," Li Wei said, looking down and buttoning up. "Sorry."

"It’s fine..." Elizabeth said. "I’m the one disturbing you..."

"What’s wrong?" Li Wei asked. "I was just about to come find you. Is it about what your grandfather said during dinner?"

"Timothy just sent someone to inform me," Elizabeth said, glancing around and lowering her voice. "He’s calling another meeting for all the members soon in the west cigar lounge. He even invited my father, Phoenix."

"Why don’t you come in to talk?" Li Wei said, stepping aside. He gestured outside. "Aren’t you worried about being seen in the hallway?"

’Elizabeth wasn’t sure why she’d dazedly followed Li Wei into the room. The situation felt far too ambiguous, too fitting—like a scene straight out of a movie.’

She shook her head, forcibly pushing the thought away. This wasn’t the time to be thinking about that.

"That Free Port project—do you know what it means?" she began. "We both studied finance. I’m sure you understand."

Li Wei nodded. He certainly understood what a Free Port was—an offshore haven for tax evasion and money laundering.

Although the Free Port would be located in Delaware, it would legally be considered an overseas tax-free zone.

So, how does it work?

For example, if Alexander were to bring a painting into the port and then sell it to some tycoon, the transaction would require no taxes. Nor would it need to go through layers of financial transfers and approvals. A simple paper document would be enough to transfer ownership, bypassing all regulations and procedures.

And this method was, in effect, undermining the main financial branch of the Mellon Family!

The foundation and main branch of the Mellon Family is finance—banking, trusts, and clearing systems. They rely on the flow of capital to extract profits and maintain control over everything.

But if the Free Port is established, this transaction wouldn’t even appear in the main branch’s SWIFT system. Their power would be quietly eroded, while Alexander’s branch would steadily gain more influence and actual control over wealth.

This was also why Alexander couldn’t use the foundation or go through banking channels, but instead had to draw resources from his children’s trusts.

"So... I don’t really know what to do now," Elizabeth said, sitting down on the sofa in the room. She tugged at her soft, golden hair in frustration. "My eldest uncle is definitely going to rally everyone to oppose Grandfather... but he can’t win against him. And I don’t want to hand over the one billion USD in cash flow I just managed to get my hands on. Besides, if Uncle Richard finds out about this..."

As Li Wei listened to Elizabeth’s rambling, he was also thinking about his own quest—the third and fourth pieces of equipment!

Help Elizabeth, and after she ascends to the throne, you can obtain two pieces of equipment! (Chapter 219)
