Chapter 347: Three Populations

Hesh Roof’s stair lost its lower landing while the children were still choosing caregivers.

The concrete steps remained under them. Step Twenty opened onto black sky. Step Nineteen reached a pump room three roofs east. Anyone crossing between them lost the relation between both feet.

Roof keepers closed the stair before a child entered the split.

The Woman’s corridor opened across two rain tanks.

Hesh had accepted 126 children and 27 pump-clinic patients. Forty-nine caregivers entered the scope through current requests. Some were parents. Others were nurses, older siblings, or the person a child selected from the roof group.

The final rescue count was 202.

Private workers marked thirteen positions per cycle. Children could step back before the frame closed. A caregiver’s place stayed attached only to the person who requested that care.

The first child chose her older sister over both parents. Her parents remained on Hesh Roof and argued after the frame took the girls. The contract preserved the child’s answer and granted neither parent a replacement place.

The second group included a pump patient whose adult son held her medicine bag. She wanted him as caregiver and wanted her husband to stay with their roof store. All three signed the split.

Black Grass entered the western rain tank during cycle five.

Water climbed the corridor frame and came out through North Pump’s receiving court.

The 494 rescued residents felt the strike before Hesh did.

Black lines appeared under seventy-three arrival marks. A woman waiting for room review lost the relation between her ankle and the court floor. Two men holding a public-exit request developed cuts across their palms.

The shared reserve carried Hesh impact into North Pump collateral.

North Pump residents pulled local court releases.

The doors opened and refused to detach from the foundation. Emergency-machinery status held them until the seven-day root accepted replacement load.

No replacement existed outside the same contract.

"We did not accept Hesh Roof," one resident said.

Counsel displayed the shared-reserve clause from their marked copy. The population had accepted it after translation correction. The current injury was permitted by the term.

That did not make the injury wanted.

North Pump’s clinic treated the ankle and hand cuts under private supplies. The court remained attached.

At Hesh, roof keepers cut the western tank from the corridor. The accepted water stayed in North Pump’s drains. Hesh lost one-third of its stored water.

Cycle six resumed.

The corridor moved all 202 accepted people in sixteen cycles. One frame misread a rooftop solar panel as caregiver equipment. Its metal edge started entering the receiving court behind a nurse.

The nurse released the panel and kept her medicine pack.

All 202 arrived alive. Twelve had water burns, route nausea, or pressure cuts. No current death was confirmed in the scoped rescue.

Seven hundred two people remained on Hesh Roof.

Private links opened between children and the roofs they had left. One eleven-year-old asked to return after seeing her father under the broken stair. The seven-day contract allowed her to reject every offered address and offered no current route back to Hesh.

Her father asked her to stay in the receiving court while he joined a roof line. She agreed for one current hour and set another call time.

The corridor had respected her first departure choice. It could not fulfill her changed direction after the stair route failed.

They had one fewer tank and no lower stair. Their current assembly had chosen the narrow rescue because children and pump patients could not hold roof lines during the next strike.

The corridor kept its promise to that scope.

Kiln Steps received its first strike four minutes later.

Six terraces climbed around a dry grain court. Abeni Kalu kept food shares. Mosi Deka led the clay crews building Elara’s local support plan from kiln frames.

They had rejected the private destination by 372 current answers to 251.

The decision produced no wall.

Black Grass entered Terrace One through the grain road. Abeni released the central store before the blades could turn all food into one destination. Household sacks stayed current on five terraces.

Terrace One lost three months of grain.

Mosi’s crews laid four kiln frames across the first missing stair. Each frame had two local keepers and a drop pin. Elara supplied angles through paper diagrams and held no current control.

Forty-three residents crossed from Terrace One.

Frame Three began following a Black Grass edge toward Hesh Roof’s remaining water.

Mosi reached its drop pin.

The near keeper had a broken wrist under the frame. The far keeper held six people on the next step. Dropping immediately would carry the near keeper into the missing stair.

Mosi lifted the keeper’s arm clear and took the wrist loop himself.

He asked the man where he wanted to land.

"Terrace Two. My daughters are there."

Mosi moved him across the chalk release mark.

The frame turned another degree toward Hesh.

Mosi pulled the drop pin.

Frame Three fell out of the stair relation. Its far end stayed on Terrace Two. Its near end opened beneath Mosi’s ribs and cut his body across two steps.

He remained current long enough to tell Abeni that six people had cleared.

Mosi Deka died on Terrace One.

The frame never reached Hesh Roof.

Kiln Steps kept the other three supports independent. Sixty-eight more residents crossed before the grain-road blades reached Terrace Two.

The main water route then opened into the lost central store.

Abeni cut it from all six terraces. Water remained in household jars and one kiln tank. The settlement lost its main line and had less than a day of current supply.

The first strike ended with 677 current survivors, Mosi dead, four crush injuries, three months of grain lost, and the main water route gone.

Kiln Steps remained locally directed.

Its rejection had avoided private collateral and had not avoided cost.

The Woman’s counsel replayed Hesh Roof’s 202 successful arrivals.

Kiln Steps replayed Mosi’s current release.

Political feeds tried to place one above the other.

Pavi refused every request to summarize the three populations with a single lesson.

She posted their current records side by side.

North Pump’s line recorded 494 rescued people, active collateral injuries, and lost wells.

Hesh Roof’s line recorded 202 scoped rescues, 702 people remaining, and one tank plus the stair lost.

Kiln Steps’ line recorded a rejected private contract, survival through the first strike, Mosi Deka dead, and grain plus main water lost.

North Pump residents answered differently when asked whether they would sign again.

Some said yes because every person escaped the wells.

Others said they had accepted one rescue and would have refused seven-Array collateral if the physical load had been shown.

Their disagreement belonged inside the saved population.

Shared reserve grew after Hesh Roof’s rescue. Seven corridor routes thickened beneath the North Pump court. Local exit cutters could no longer reach their foundation without crossing active protection for Hesh patients.

At Ridge Array, the private garage lane lit under its old transition floor.

Successor marks spread across the base bolts.

Ridge’s garage keeper released the lane used for the earlier empty-van test. The visible doorway closed. The successor marks remained inside six foundation bolts that belonged to the Array rather than the garage.

Ridge control ordered one bolt removed under two local mechanics.

The bolt opened onto North Pump’s receiving court. Seventy-three injured arrival marks pulled toward the mechanics’ hands. They returned the bolt before the first mark crossed.

Company counsel cited shared emergency reserve. North Pump’s accepted machinery could inherit connected transition hardware during the seven-day term. The old garage test supplied the connection even though Ridge had accepted no current population rescue.

Ridge filed a local rejection and cut power to the garage floor.

The Array drew current from its recoil rail.

Ridge control had signed no seven-day population contract.

The Array changed its equipment record anyway.
