Chapter 657 - 627: The Celestial Dao is Unfair (Part 2)

"I used it to reforge my Dantian."

As he said this, Mu Chen snapped out of his reverie. His gaze shifted to Wan Xian’Er, only to find her staring at him with wide, pained eyes, her hand covering her mouth.

Mu Chen froze, confused. "What’s wrong?"

Wan Xian’Er shook her head and hugged his chest tightly, sobbing. "I didn’t know... your past was so painful."

Mu Chen couldn’t help but smile, patting her smooth back. "Aren’t you missing the point?"

"Hm?" Wan Xian’Er looked up abruptly, her eyes filled with confusion. "What point?"

"Since I could reforge my own Dantian, it means I can do the same for Ying’Er," Mu Chen said, exasperated. "Her life isn’t over. She’ll become just like me—or maybe even stronger."

"Ying’Er’s life... won’t end..."

"That’s right. She’ll be with us for her whole life."

"She’ll be with us for her whole life..."

"Yes, she will."

Seeing tears about to well up in Wan Xian’Er’s eyes again, Mu Chen quickly changed the subject. "I don’t see Ying’Er. Don’t you two usually live together?"

This time, Wan Xian’Er clearly saw through his intention. Wiping the teardrops from her eyelashes, she smiled. "Of course we live together. But today was special. I couldn’t let Ying’Er know I used the groom selection ceremony to find her a fake father, so I sent her to Grandpa’s early this morning."

Hearing this, Mu Chen’s brows furrowed slightly before relaxing. He sighed. "Xian’Er, if I hadn’t come this time... who would this red gown and bridal chamber have been for?"

Wan Xian’Er froze at his words, then spoke calmly, "If you hadn’t come, I would have just gotten married. My heart would have stayed with you, but for Ying’Er’s sake, I couldn’t afford to wait any longer. You don’t have to worry, though. If Ying’Er had passed, I would have followed her to the next world."

Mu Chen drew in a sharp breath. "Thank goodness I came," he said, relieved. "Otherwise, I would have spent the rest of my life drowning in guilt and sorrow."

"That’s right. My goal was to make you suffer! But now, we have nothing to worry about." As she spoke, Wan Xian’Er’s cheeks flushed red again. She leaned close to Mu Chen’s ear and whispered, "Husband, the night is still young..."

At her words, Mu Chen’s waning passion suddenly flared. He abruptly rolled over, pinning Wan Xian’Er beneath him. Before long, seductive moans once again filled the room. The night passed without another word.

「The next morning」

The entire Ding Palace was bathed in warm autumn sunlight. With no clouds or mist to block the sky, rain never fell upon the palace—the very reason it was built here.

"Ngh..."

As if sensing the change in the room’s temperature, Wan Xian’Er slowly opened her clear eyes. She stretched elegantly and turned her head, murmuring, "Ying’Er..."

But just as the name left her lips, a pair of enchanting eyes met her own. Who else could it be but Mu Chen? He was already fully dressed, watching her with a smile.

"Ah!"

Startled, Wan Xian’Er quickly pulled the blanket up to hide her bare skin, looking at Mu Chen shyly. Then, remembering they had nothing left to hide, she shot him a glare. "What are you doing, trying to scare me like a ghost so early in the morning?"

Mu Chen feigned injury. "Well, someone was still lazing around in bed even though the sun is already high in the sky. And don’t forget, Ying’Er might be back early today."

"Ying’Er?" Wan Xian’Er froze for a moment, then gasped. She scrambled out of bed and bolted into the bathroom as if fleeing for her life. Mu Chen stared after her, dumbfounded. A moment later, however, a gratified smile spread across his face. ’My Xian’Er has finally returned.’

Soon, the sounds from the bathroom faded. The door opened, and a refreshed Wan Xian’Er appeared before Mu Chen, as radiant as a water fairy. She had intentionally chosen a white silken dress, nearly identical to the one she wore years ago. Her long, dark hair cascaded down her back. With a faint blush on her love-warmed cheeks, she walked up to Mu Chen, gave a little twirl, and asked, "How do I look?"

"More ethereal than a fairy."

Without hesitation, Mu Chen spoke these four words with conviction, earning a roll of the eyes from Wan Xian’Er. Still, she affectionately linked her arm with his and began to pull him outside.

As he was pulled along, Mu Chen asked in surprise, "Where are we going?"

Wan Xian’Er huffed, "To pick up Ying’Er, of course. You goof, you weren’t actually expecting her to come find you, were you?"

Mu Chen rubbed his nose and gave a wry smile. "To be honest, that’s exactly what I was thinking," he admitted sheepishly.

Wan Xian’Er pouted. "You have the nerve to admit it. Let’s go!"

"As my lady commands!"

With that, amid Wan Xian’Er’s cheerful laughter, the two of them flew toward the Immortal Rain Hall. Along the way, everyone from the Medicine Boys heading down the mountain for herbs to the patrolling Guards stared with strange expressions when they saw such a lively Wan Xian’Er. In the next moment, however, they would all secretly give Mu Chen a thumbs-up. They had all witnessed his actions yesterday, and he was, simply put, a total badass. Besides, many of them privately knew he was the true son-in-law, so they held no ill will toward him.

The Immortal Rain Hall was located in the northernmost part of the Ding Palace. The hall was several times larger than the Immortal Shadow Hall, and its carvings were more archaic in style. Usually, few people visited the Immortal Rain Hall, not only because it was the residence of the Ding Palace’s Grand Elder, but also because it was so remote.

However, the hall was unusually lively today. Early in the morning, Wan Xianlin awoke from his Meditation. At that same moment, a tender voice called out from outside his door, causing a huge, crinkly smile to bloom across his old face.

"Great-Grandpa~ Time to get up! Great-Grandpa~ You big sleepyhead!"

In a single step, Wan Xianlin was out of his room. He saw Xiao Ying’er, still dressed in her light blue princess dress. After the restorative care Wan Xianlin had given her yesterday, her complexion was much better than usual.

"Great-Grandpa~"

Seeing Wan Xianlin, Xiao Ying’er immediately ran over. She was about to jump into his arms but suddenly remembered she couldn’t use too much strength, so she stopped herself. Wan Xianlin clearly knew this as well, so the moment she reached his side, he stretched out his hands and lifted her up.

"Let Great-Grandpa see how pretty Xiao Ying’er is today." As he spoke, his large, warm hand rested on top of her head, gently ruffling her hair.

Unexpectedly, as soon as Wan Xianlin touched her hair, Xiao Ying’er pouted and covered her head with both hands. "No, no! Great-Grandpa will mess up my hair! Sister Yalan said I’ll get to see Daddy today. It won’t look nice if it’s messy."

At the mention of the word "Daddy," a sad look crossed the face of Yalan, who was standing nearby. ’I’ve followed Miss Wan for thirteen years,’ she thought. ’I understand her better than anyone in the Ding Palace. We’re close in age, so she was always willing to tell me anything. That’s how I know what a kind, pure, and spirited woman my lady truly is.’

’She’s beautiful, but without a trace of arrogance. She holds a noble status, yet she’s never considered herself superior to others. Her heart is like a flawless pearl, always thinking of others before herself. For such a perfect, outstanding woman to have to determine her marriage this way... The Celestial Dao is truly unfair!’
