Chapter 256: Titania’s Despair, The Sovereign’s Plea
Dante stood on the jade pavilion, staring across the glowing waters of Radiant Lake.
The serene sanctuary of the Fey Continent was gone. The far shore was completely overrun by a massive, hundred-thousand-strong army of mind-controlled Beast-Kin warriors.
Gawain, the newly appointed [System Enforcer], stood at the vanguard, his pristine white celestial armor gleaming against the dark backdrop of the Mirage Mire. Dozens of faceless, Level 75 Administrative Sentinels hovered above the ranks, their green code actively distorting the air.
"The system always wins," Gawain’s voice boomed across the lake, heavy with unnatural, administrative authority.
Dante didn’t shout back. He didn’t activate [Asura’s Descent]. He kept his gold broadsword lowered.
He turned his back to the massive army and looked down at Titania.
The Fey Sovereign was still on her knees, her hands pressed desperately against the jade floor. The Super-Divine entity was ignoring the invasion entirely. She was solely focused on funneling her rapidly depleting life force into the foundation of the island, trying to hold back the red deletion code fracturing the sky.
Seren knelt beside her, sobbing openly, clutching her mother’s glowing robes.
"Can you stop the sky from falling if I kill them?" Dante asked bluntly.
Titania slowly raised her head. Her luminous silver eyes were incredibly dim, clouded by sheer exhaustion.
"I cannot, Champion," Titania whispered, her voice barely carrying over the distant, rhythmic marching of the enemy army aligning their siege weapons on the shore. "The Arch-Administrator’s purge protocol is absolute. I am merely delaying the inevitable. When my core expires, the sanctuary will be deleted, and the [Tear of the World Tree] will be consumed."
Dante frowned. "Where is the Tear?"
Titania didn’t point. She looked directly at Dante.
"It is the roots beneath your feet," Titania explained softly. "The World Tree is the catalyst. It is the foundational code of this continent. If the Arch-Administrator assimilates it, the Zenith Protocol will gain enough raw processing power to permanently lock the server. The cycle will end. Humanity will be trapped in the Harvest forever."
Dante processed the lore.
He couldn’t just pocket an item and teleport away. The objective wasn’t a glowing orb or a heavy crystal. The objective was a massive, immovable tree, and the system was actively trying to delete the entire zone to get it.
"So I have to hold the line until you stabilize the sky," Dante concluded.
"I cannot stabilize it!" Titania cried out, a burst of frustrated, dying starlight escaping her cracked wings. "My power is fractured! The traitor Raijin severed my connection to the leylines. I am burning my own soul matrix. I have minutes left before I expire."
Seren wept louder, burying her face against her mother’s shoulder.
Dante crossed his arms. He looked at the massive army organizing on the shore. They were setting up heavy siege ballistas and magical artillery. They were preparing to bombard the island, fully intending to shatter the Sovereign’s concentration and accelerate her death.
"If I kill the Enforcer, does the purge stop?" Dante asked.
"No," Titania shook her head weakly. "The Enforcer is merely a distraction. A localized proxy to ensure you do not interfere with the deletion protocol. The Arch-Administrator is executing the command directly from the orbital layer."
Dante stared at her.
He was incredibly powerful. He had the [Asura Vanguard] class. He had [Voidsever], the primordial anti-virus. He had executed Celestials and wiped massive armies.
But he couldn’t punch the sky. He couldn’t swing his sword at a deletion command coming from orbit.
"Dante," Seren whimpered, looking up at him with wide, terrified eyes. "You said you wouldn’t let her die. You promised."
Dante didn’t answer immediately.
He looked at the hundred thousand mind-controlled troops. He looked at the Level 75 system constructs. He looked at Gawain, who was currently raising his glowing white greatsword, signaling his mages to begin chanting their localized bombardment arrays.
Even if Dante activated all of his buffs, burned his health with [Blood Sacrifice], and spammed [Meteor Stride] across the lake, he couldn’t kill a hundred thousand players and dozens of system constructs fast enough to protect the dying Sovereign from the sheer volume of overlapping chip damage.
He was one man.
The math, for the first time since he entered the open world, was absolutely, undeniably against him.
Dante took a slow, deep breath.
"I’m not going to let her die," Dante said softly to Seren.
He sheathed the [Dawn-Breaker Blade]. He didn’t summon [Voidsever].
He reached into his infinite inventory.
He bypassed the high-tier weapons, the massive stacks of gold, and the glowing stat crystals.
He pulled out a heavy, intricately carved silver horn.
It didn’t look like a weapon. It looked like a ceremonial instrument.
[Item Appraised: Guild Summoning Beacon]
[Tier: Divine Emperor]
[Type: Administrative Artifact]
[Description: A unique privilege granted to the Guild Master of a Level 5 Citadel. Upon activation, the user instantly overrides all geographic and systemic transit restrictions. Instantly summons all willing, active members of the user’s guild to their exact coordinates. Cooldown: 30 Days.]
Dante had unlocked this specific, incredibly powerful utility item when he forced the system to generate the [Citadel of the First Cycle] on top of the massive mana nexus in the Sky Demon Forest.
He hadn’t used it yet. He hadn’t needed to.
"You guys really like to rely on numbers," Dante muttered, looking across the lake at Gawain.
Dante didn’t blow the horn. He didn’t need to physically use it.
He activated the item through the system interface.
The silver horn dissolved in his gauntlet, turning into a burst of brilliant, blinding gold light that shot straight up into the air, piercing the fractured, bleeding red sky above the sanctuary.
Dante opened his guild management interface.
He didn’t type a long, inspiring speech. He didn’t explain the lore or the stakes of the cosmic war.
He sent a single, server-wide, priority broadcast directly to the fifty thousand elite, independent players who wore his guild tag.
[Guild Broadcast - Sender: Dan (Guild Master)]
[Message: The system is trying to delete the server. I need a distraction. Accept the summon.]
Down on the far shore of the lake, Gawain laughed.
The new Enforcer couldn’t read the private guild chat, but he saw the burst of gold light.
"Are you calling for help, anomaly?!" Gawain’s voice boomed across the water, dripping with arrogant, administrative superiority. "Who is going to answer?! The entire server hates you! You have no allies!"
Gawain raised his glowing white sword and pointed it directly at the island.
"Mages!" Gawain roared. "Fire the arrays! Level the island! Erase them all!"
Thousands of mind-controlled Beast-Kin mages finished their synchronized chanting.
Massive, overlapping magical circles of fire, frost, and dark matter flared to life on the shore. The sheer volume of localized mana concentrating in the backline was staggering. If that bombardment launched, it would instantly vaporize the dying Sovereign and shatter the World Tree’s foundation.
Dante didn’t flinch.
He didn’t cast a defensive barrier. He didn’t tell Seren to hide.
He just looked up at the sky.
The system didn’t give Gawain time to fire.
The Zenith Protocol’s combat engine violently hitched.
The air above Radiant Lake didn’t just warp. It completely, utterly fractured.
The massive, red deletion code bleeding through the sky was instantly overwritten by a blinding, explosive cascade of brilliant, pure golden light.
It wasn’t a single portal.
It was fifty thousand individual, synchronized teleportation signatures resolving simultaneously.
The sky literally ripped open.
Dante hadn’t recruited a massive, disorganized army of low-level beginners like Silas. He had set strict parameters. He had recruited the absolute best, highest-level, most intensely optimized independent players on the server.
Fifty thousand heavily armored veterans materialized in mid-air above the lake, falling like a golden, localized meteor shower.
They didn’t land on the island. They didn’t need to.
"Aegis Vanguard!" a familiar, commanding female voice roared from the sky.
Sera.
The studio head wasn’t wearing her merchant robes. She was clad in the absolute best, most expensive Celestial-tier armor the Emporium had to offer. She plummeted from the sky, a massive, glowing tower shield strapped to her arm.
"Drop on their backline!" Sera commanded the falling army. "Break the casters!"
The fifty thousand elite players of Aegis Vanguard didn’t hesitate. They were highly motivated, incredibly well-geared, and extremely eager to justify their 10% permanent EXP buff.
They crashed directly into the Beast-Kin army.
The impact was catastrophic.
The organized, synchronized firing lines of the Oakhaven mages were instantly crushed as thousands of heavily armored tanks and warriors literally landed on their heads.
The massive magical bombardment didn’t launch. It detonated prematurely within the Beast-Kin ranks, wiping out hundreds of their own troops in a massive, chaotic explosion of friendly fire.
"No!" Gawain shrieked, his Enforcer composure completely shattering as his perfect, hundred-thousand-man army was instantly thrown into absolute, localized chaos.
"Hold the line!" Gawain screamed, desperately trying to rally the surviving vanguard. "They are disorganized! Crush them!"
"We aren’t disorganized, you idiot!" a loud, flamboyant voice laughed from the center of the melee.
[Player ’Casanova’ has activated Innate Talent: Titan’s Physique.]
Casanova didn’t fall from the sky. He had used a targeted transit to land directly in front of Gawain. The bard instantly expanded into a massive, seven-foot-tall, incredibly vascular bruiser.
Casanova didn’t draw a weapon. He simply reached out, grabbed a massive, heavily armored Beast-Kin tank, lifted the player over his head, and threw him directly at Gawain.
The Enforcer swatted the flying tank away with his glowing sword, furious.
"Lila!" Dante yelled, his voice carrying perfectly across the lake. "Pin the flanks!"
Lila materialized on the shore, her blue hair whipping around her as she raised the [Staff of the Abyssal Shepherd].
She didn’t chant.
[Skill Executed: Gravity Well]
[Skill Executed: Gravity Well]
Massive, invisible cylinders of concentrated atmospheric pressure slammed down on the left and right flanks of the Beast-Kin army, instantly crushing thousands of heavily armored cavalry units into the mud, completely halting their ability to maneuver.
"Mei!" Dante commanded. "The sentinels!"
"Batter up!" Mei cheered.
The brawler dropped from the sky, activating [Colossal Manifestation] mid-air. The [God-Slaying Skillet] exploded into a thirty-foot-wide monolith of indestructible black iron.
She landed directly beneath the hovering group of Level 75 Administrative Sentinels.
She didn’t use a flashy skill. She just swung the colossal pan upward like a baseball bat.
*CLANG!*
The indestructible pan slammed into the system constructs. The massive kinetic force didn’t care about their admin-level defenses. The Sentinels were violently batted out of the sky, tumbling helplessly through the air and crashing heavily into the distant, corrupted tree line.
Dante watched his squad completely, flawlessly dismantle the Enforcer’s army in less than thirty seconds.
He didn’t join the fight on the shore.
He turned back to Titania.
The Fey Sovereign was staring at the massive, golden army currently slaughtering the corrupted forces across the lake. Her silver eyes were wide with absolute shock.
"You brought an army," Titania whispered, her voice trembling.
"I brought my guild," Dante corrected her smoothly.
He drew [Voidsever].
"Keep holding the island together, Sovereign," Dante said, his red eyes burning as the black blade devoured the ambient light. "I’m going to fix the sky."
