Chapter 255: Execution of the Emperor, The Duel Concludes
Dante watched his level tick up. He had entered the Fey Continent at Level 38. The massive slaughter of the corrupted hunters, the fifty Abyssal Crocodiles, and the entire Level 60 Dark Demon wolf pack had already provided a massive influx of progression.
But securing the solo kill on a Level 60 Celestial Boss—especially one buffed by the night cycle mechanics—pushed his experience bar over the edge.
[Participant: Dan]
[Current Level: 40]
Level 40.
He had officially broken into the mid-game scaling brackets. His base stats, already heavily inflated by the [Asura Vanguard] class and his massive suite of Zenith-tier passives, jumped again.
He didn’t bother opening his character sheet to check the exact numbers. He knew he was mathematically untouchable.
He dismissed [Voidsever] back into the brand on his right wrist. The dark bone hilt vanished, leaving behind the faint, pulsing white veins of the [Source Code Fragment] integrated into his digital skin.
He let out a long, slow breath, shedding the lingering, aggressive adrenaline of the duel.
Aura, hovering safely over Seren, instantly pulsed her [Resurgence Wave]. The massive, percentage-based heal washed over him, completely refilling his health bar from the 50% penalty of the duel back to a comfortable, fully topped-off state.
Dante turned around.
Princess Seren was slowly peeking out from behind the frozen trunk of a massive willow tree. The Level 35 NPC was shivering, clutching her tattered silver dress, staring at the spot where the Fenrir Emperor had just been atomized.
"Is it... is it over?" Seren whispered, her voice trembling.
"The pack is clear," Dante confirmed smoothly.
He didn’t need to check his [Dragon’s Insight] to know the immediate area was secure. The localized cosmic weight of a Celestial Boss usually deterred other predators, and his own aura of absolute destruction was likely keeping any surviving mobs far away from the frozen clearing.
Dante walked over to the massive pile of glowing loot that had spawned where the Emperor died.
Because of his [Zenith Incarnate] title, the 100% drop rate guaranteed an absolute mountain of high-tier gear. He activated his [Band of the Void-Walker] and vacuumed the gold coins, Celestial crafting materials, and generic armor pieces into his infinite inventory.
He singled out one specific item resting at the bottom of the pile.
It was a heavy, ornate silver pendant, shaped like a howling wolf, glowing with a soft, pale moonlight.
[Item Appraised: Amulet of the Silver Moon]
[Tier: Celestial]
[Type: Accessory (Neck)]
[Stats: +3,000 Agility, +2,000 Physical Defense.]
[Passive (Lunar Eclipse): Grants the user absolute immunity to all forms of localized slowing effects, roots, and movement impairments. Movement speed is passively increased by 50% during the night cycle.]
"Absolute mobility," Dante noted, storing the amulet in his void ring. He would give it to Lila or Nyx when he returned to the Citadel. The evasion stats and the immunity to crowd control would make them incredibly difficult to pin down in a guild war.
He didn’t linger on the loot. The system timer for the server-wide crisis was still active in his mind. The Arch-Administrator was actively trying to overwrite the continent, and Sovereign Titania was fighting a losing battle.
"We need to keep moving, Princess," Dante said, walking back toward Seren. "How far are we from Radiant Lake?"
Seren stepped away from the frozen tree, looking around the icy landscape. She pointed a trembling finger toward the east.
"It is close," Seren said, her voice filled with desperate hope. "If we follow this frozen path, we should reach the sanctuary borders within the hour. The corruption should be much weaker near the Sovereign’s domain."
Dante didn’t look relieved.
If Raijin had successfully allied with the System Enforcers, the traitor wouldn’t just sit in his camp waiting for Dante to return. The Clan Leader knew Dante was escorting the Princess to the lake.
"Don’t assume we’re safe," Dante warned her. "The traitor knows where we’re going. And if he has the Arch-Administrator’s backing, he won’t be relying on standard mobs to stop us."
Dante activated [Velocity Paradox].
He didn’t use it to turn intangible. He used the massive movement speed buff to quickly close the distance. He grabbed Seren gently but firmly by the arm.
"We aren’t walking for an hour," Dante said. "Hold on."
He triggered [Meteor Stride].
He didn’t teleport a short distance. He chained the Zenith-tier mobility skill back-to-back, burning across the frozen swamp in a massive, continuous blur of white-hot light and superheated plasma.
Because of [Chrono-Shift], he had zero cooldowns and zero mana cost. He was a localized missile, effortlessly carrying the Princess across miles of treacherous terrain in a matter of seconds.
The environment rapidly shifted.
The dark, corrupted, glitching horror of the Mirage Mire slowly began to fade. The toxic purple mud gave way to solid, pristine white stone. The massive, dead willow trees were replaced by towering, beautiful weeping cherry blossoms that glowed with a soft, ethereal pink light.
The air smelled clean, smelling of fresh rain and blooming flowers, completely devoid of the sharp, metallic tang of digital static.
Dante materialized at the edge of a massive, perfectly circular, crystal-clear lake.
The water wasn’t just clean; it was actively glowing, radiating a profound, absolute sense of celestial purity. The light from the lake illuminated the surrounding forest, pushing back the oppressive darkness of the night cycle.
They had reached Radiant Lake.
Seren stumbled slightly as Dante released her arm, gasping for air after the terrifying, high-speed teleportation sequence.
She looked at the glowing lake, tears of absolute, unfiltered relief welling in her eyes.
"We made it," Seren whispered, dropping to her knees on the soft, glowing grass. "We’re home."
Dante didn’t drop his guard. He drew the [Dawn-Breaker Blade], his red eyes scanning the serene, beautiful environment.
His Intuition stat wasn’t pinging with immediate danger, but something felt fundamentally wrong.
"Where are the guards?" Dante asked softly.
Radiant Lake was the absolute heart of the Fey Continent. It was the personal sanctuary of a Super-Divine Sovereign. The area should have been heavily fortified, swarming with elite Royal Sylvan defenders and high-tier defensive arrays.
It was completely, utterly empty.
Seren wiped her eyes and looked around, finally noticing the absolute silence. The profound relief vanished from her face, instantly replaced by a deep, localized dread.
"The perimeter wards," Seren breathed, pointing a trembling finger at the edge of the lake.
Dante looked where she was pointing.
He didn’t need [Dragon’s Insight] to see the problem.
The glowing, pristine white stone that lined the edge of the lake was cracked. Massive, jagged fissures tore through the marble, leaking thick, aggressive red digital static.
The sky directly above the lake wasn’t a serene, starry night. It was violently, aggressively fracturing. Massive chunks of the digital atmosphere were literally peeling away, exposing the raw, underlying red code of the Zenith Protocol’s administrative layer.
The sanctuary wasn’t safe. It was actively being deleted from the server.
"The Arch-Administrator is overwriting the zone," Dante deduced instantly.
He didn’t wait for Seren to panic. He grabbed her arm again and pulled her toward the center of the lake.
A wide, elegant bridge made of woven, glowing white vines spanned the crystal-clear water, leading directly to a massive, towering island in the center of the lake.
The island wasn’t a standard landmass. It was the base of an impossibly large, ancient tree. The trunk was wider than the Citadel of the First Cycle, stretching high into the fracturing sky. Its leaves were a brilliant, glowing silver, actively raining light down onto the island.
The World Tree.
Dante and Seren sprinted across the vine bridge, their boots echoing loudly in the silent sanctuary.
They reached the island.
The center of the island was a massive, open-air pavilion paved with smooth jade.
Standing in the absolute center of the pavilion, directly beneath the massive canopy of the World Tree, was a figure.
It was a woman, incredibly tall and profoundly beautiful. She wore flowing, elegant robes woven from pure, concentrated starlight. She possessed four massive, delicate wings that looked like they were forged from stained glass.
But she didn’t look majestic.
[Entity Identified: Titania, The Fey Sovereign]
[Faction: Celestial Guardian]
[Level: 80]
[Status: Critical Exhaustion]
The Level 80 Super-Divine entity was on her knees.
Titania wasn’t holding a weapon. Both of her hands were pressed flat against the jade floor, glowing with a desperate, blinding white light. She was actively channeling every single drop of her massive cosmic energy directly into the foundation of the island.
She was physically, single-handedly holding the localized server architecture together, desperately fighting back the aggressive red code that was trying to delete her realm.
"Mother!" Seren screamed, pulling out of Dante’s grip and sprinting across the pavilion.
Titania didn’t look up. She couldn’t. The sheer, overwhelming strain of fighting the Arch-Administrator’s overwrite protocol was consuming her entire logic matrix. Her beautiful, stained-glass wings were heavily cracked, bleeding silver light into the air.
"Seren," Titania gasped, her voice incredibly weak, barely a whisper. "You must flee... the sanctuary is lost. The traitor... he breached the inner seals."
Dante walked slowly across the pavilion, stopping a few feet behind Seren.
He looked at the dying Sovereign.
"Raijin is dead," Dante stated flatly. "I executed him in the Mire."
Titania finally looked up, her luminescent, glowing eyes focusing on Dante’s dark armor. She recognized the cosmic weight radiating from the anomaly.
"The Conqueror of the Abyss," Titania whispered, a faint glimmer of hope breaking through her absolute despair. "You... you severed the traitor."
"I did," Dante confirmed. "But it doesn’t look like it stopped the purge."
"Raijin was merely a pawn," Titania coughed, a spray of digital light escaping her lips. "He used his access codes to lower the outer defenses, allowing the true threat to enter the sanctuary. The Arch-Administrator’s proxies... they are already here."
Before Dante could ask for clarification, the system interface violently hitched.
The calm, serene atmosphere of Radiant Lake completely shattered.
The massive, heavily reinforced vine bridge they had just crossed violently exploded.
It wasn’t a magical attack. It was a massive, synchronized artillery bombardment.
Dante spun around, drawing the [Dawn-Breaker Blade].
The far shore of the lake was no longer empty.
Marching out of the corrupted, glitching tree line was an army.
They didn’t wear the silver armor of the loyalist Storm-Manes, and they didn’t wear the dark leather of the stealth assassins.
They wore thick, heavy black iron armor that pulsed with aggressive, mind-controlled green static. They carried massive, jagged tower shields and heavy halberds.
There were easily a hundred thousand of them.
It was the full, unmitigated, absolute military might of the corrupted Beast-Kin continent, aggressively bottlenecked and funneled directly into the Sovereign’s sanctuary.
And standing at the absolute front of the massive, overwhelming army, flanked by dozens of towering, heavily armed System Anomalies—faceless, floating constructs of pure green code—was a figure Dante recognized instantly.
It was Gawain.
The Guild Master of the Apex Coalition, who had fled the Sky Demon Forest in absolute terror just hours ago, was back.
But he didn’t look like a terrified player anymore.
His golden Paladin armor was completely gone, replaced by the sleek, unreflective, pristine white celestial armor of a [System Enforcer]. His eyes burned with the same aggressive, mind-controlled green static as the army behind him.
The Arch-Administrator hadn’t just used Silas. It had drafted a replacement.
"You can’t run forever, Dan," Gawain’s voice echoed across the lake, amplified by his new admin privileges. "The system always wins."
