Chapter 71: Boss monster!
The transparent crystal necklace around Seth’s neck sparkled as it flailed in the wind.
This item was a loot drop gained when he killed a low Leader-grade creature called the Space Pocket Bunny.
And the item indeed embodied the ability of the beast — the ability of space hopping.
His essence surged into the item, funneled through his ability, boosting its capabilities to a level beyond what should have been possible.
Space around his frame rippled, and it was as though he hopped through reality itself. His body shimmered and vanished.
The monster’s jaws clamped shut at the same time, barely missing Seth and causing a sudden wave of compressed wind to burst out.
It bit air! It didn’t taste blood, and it was furious.
It let out a bemoaning roar that whipped through the wind.
Seth appeared in the distance, repeatedly retreating backward, seeking to put distance between himself and the beast.
’Damn! The defense of this creature is off the charts!’ he noted grimly.
He was worried. No matter how many times he escaped, the battle would never end until he could deal damage.
Why wasn’t his blade powerful enough? The answer was simple — because he was weak.
The three Rangol race adventurers had informed Seth about a lot, and one thing they had mentioned was that in the Awakening Rank, every digit of stats mattered.
If someone surpassed you even by a single point in essence, it meant their essence was denser and could muster a higher level of pressure on their skills.
Strength, speed, defense, and all other stats followed the same principle.
Which was why Seth was so weak. Despite the fact that his dual-class physique bolstered his overall stats by twofold efficiency, his stats were still pathetically low in two digits.
Back on Earth, with his Awakened buff, this might have put him among the apex in power.
But in the Origin Realm, it meant nothing. At best, he could be compared with a mid-grade Boss creature.
But his current foe was far beyond this. It was a peak-grade Boss behemoth.
Even staring at the impossibility of his situation, Seth grinned as his will erupted with a familiar resonance.
His gaze turned crazed.
’I’m going to survive in triumph! That’s the only outcome I’ll accept — and enforce.’
His body swelled, his skin smoldering with a boiling sanguine hue.
His hair grew and fluttered, silver locks dancing in the wind. He roared at the sky, his voice resounding like thunder across the marshy plains.
His Asura form had been unleashed in all its full glory.
He switched his blade, equipping a heavy lance — an Elite-grade weapon — in its stead.
[Item: Demon Tide Lance]
Grade: Elite
Rank: Awakened
Effect: Bears the weight of a crushing mountain against any foe, while the user feels no change in weight!
Actually, the weight enhancement wasn’t something that could be lethal to the monster.
But with Seth unleashing the full, unrestrained capacity of his gene skill Absolute Weapon Resonance, it had a chance. In contrast, the weapon could muster a full force of around 20–30 tons.
He coiled the annihilative energy that brimmed from his hands from the gene skill Armageddon into the lance.
Black lightning cackled across its surface as it brimmed with annihilation.
Seth took a step forward at the same time the behemoth lunged his way.
He spun his lance in the air. In his hands, its weight was as light as a rapier, hence it naturally flowed with the same fluidity, grace, and speed of one.
Seth leaned sideways, closely evading a swinging bone claw. The head of the creature snapped his way, but his gaze remained clear.
He leaped through, the wind whipping against his flesh, as he held the weapon mid-air. His boots simmered.
The air beneath his feet compressed. In that split second, Seth mustered enough force through his feet to swing the lance forward like a javelin.
And though this weapon was as light as a rapier in its wielder’s grasp, it actually bore a devastating natural weight.
The tip barreled into the creature’s skin. The crushing weight increased its lethality, and the full downward force erupted.
Crack!
The scales of the creature chipped and blood spilled as a web of cracks spread through its back.
Blood bubbled from the seams as the Boss monster whipped its head back in agony.
As annihilative energy poured into the Dile Boss monster, marsh mud splattered as it sank into the murky waters.
Seth landed with light footsteps. He backed away from the creature and held out his hands.
The lance rattled before whisking straight into his grasp.
Around Seth, one could see an array of chains dug into his body, clattering.
Just now, he had slammed against the solid hold of his Asura King gene lineage.
Like chimes of bells, the chains clattered together. Then his title Chain Breaker stirred, and he felt the lock weaken by a full 20%.
Cracks spread across a few chains, and they shattered, bursting into ethereal shards.
But more still remained. What did it matter? Seth would break them all.
His feet dug into the muddy waters as he burst forward like an arrow loosed from its bow, speeding through the wind.
His hands already drawn back, he stabbed down.
The Dile Boss monster snarled as its instincts flared red — danger!
It whipped its jagged bone tail, its most deadly weapon, toward Seth.
Seth sensed the speed of this attack and gritted his teeth.
’Now I have to give up on the strike.’
He used the lance instead to block, but that did little to cushion the deadly force the creature carried.
This was a creature that could bite an African elephant in two with a single snap of its jaws. Its mass was just that large.
So naturally, the force of its attack was nothing to joke about.
The lance curved from impact, Seth’s body following suit, as he was catapulted out of sight, far across the marshy plains.
But the creature didn’t relent. Its frame snaked through the muddy surface, rushing after its prey.
Seth spun in the wind, out of control and in pain, drops of blood splattering in his wake.
He skipped against the muddy waters twice before losing momentum and landing helplessly in the mud.
He used his lance to prop himself up, and around him lesser Dile beasts were already lurking, planning to keep him in place until their boss arrived.
Seth’s eyes glinted with disdain.
’Run? Never. And even if I did, could these mere Elite-grade creatures hinder me?’
His lance swept forth, reducing everything in its path into bloody meat paste.
He burst forward toward the looming creature. The ethereal chains around his body curled tighter, reluctant to let go.
But in the end, they couldn’t resist the blow of Seth’s towering, raging will.
Cracks spread, gleaming with a royal purple cadence that billowed around Seth’s frame.
Then they erupted into a rain of ethereal shards around his figure.
His blood churned, an
d his lineage sparked to life...
