Chapter 381: Compromise
Silence reigned as the Asura King took a deep, exhausted breath after explaining the entire sequence that led to this mess.
And everyone just stared at both of them blankly, their minds summarizing the Asura King’s explanation...
"They broke the freaking pact just because they wanted to save a descendant of theirs?" many voices growled mentally and overlapped as their gazes towards the two went intense.
How many of them here had descendants that needed saving? Hidden prodigies that could carry their line to infinitely great heights, yet they couldn’t interfere, and many figures were forced to watch the death of these stars.
It had happened so often across millennia, everyone had long grown numb, they’d watched so many of their spawns die through the genetic link, watched as brilliant stars were extinguished at their infantile state.
Some to ridiculous instances, some to treacherous encounters, but still, all could be resolved if any of them acted, yet they had to hold restraint.
For the sake of the grand goal, no one had crossed this line since the beginning of their ascension, and now that someone did, they were actually progenitors?
It was quite the jarring conclusion, they couldn’t imagine how much potential this spawn had, to have convinced not one but two entities to act.
Even if only the Grand Weapon Maester had acted, the Asura King was literally saying it didn’t matter because he would also have done the same, meaning he was also moved to act.
Adam and Cain glanced at one another, even if father and son hadn’t made any contact with each other for thousands of years, they could both acknowledge that the other had met Seth.
Adam knew this because he could trace Seth’s bloodline to the west and his son headed the west, there was no way he wouldn’t have encountered such an outstanding prodigy, and Cain knew this because Seth was the Origin Soul bearer, meaning he had to have met his father to light the racial lamp.
Both had met Seth so both could trace the distinct trait of his bloodline aura and associate it to these two ancient figures standing before them.
Meaning there was a good chance the prodigy in question was Seth, and in this light, Cain’s expression eased into conflict.
On one hand he condemned their action, on the other the prodigy in question was Seth. Could he say if he was in their shoes he wouldn’t act?
And worse, now he had to wonder what the attack division could have encountered to have pushed even Seth into such a perilous situation that one of his ancestors had to act.
Now he had to prepare for the possibility that the entire attack division had been wiped out, his mind tracing back to Trisha’s revelation. Could the misfortune of the dark moon truly have caused this?
Meanwhile, on Adam’s end, his expression instantly eased into understanding, he wasn’t burdened with as much political and practical knowledge of what was happening on the surface realm.
So he wasn’t plagued with as much worry as Cain, all he knew was that Seth was the Origin Soul bearer, and wasn’t a figure the human race could lose.
Heck, if not for the child he was meant to be dead! There was so much more the human race could benefit from Seth, and losing him would be too much of a misfortune.
He held such strong fondness for Seth already that if he knew Seth was the one responsible for the human base level rising to bronze, his favour towards the child would increase overwhelmingly.
He was literally the human race’s luck star, as long as they had him heralding the way, the limits of the height he might reach would be unimaginable.
But on the other hand, that was only if he could survive the journey in the first place...
Adam turned to the others, who were staring blankly at the Asura King and the Grand Weapon Maester for answers.
He sighed, the two would still be punished for breaching the taboo, but he could help them lighten it by explaining Seth’s importance...
He wasn’t the only one coming to this conclusion, Cain was too...
The Grand Maester watched all this fall into play without saying anything after stepping forward, his expression brimming with confidence and a lack of repentance.
He hadn’t gone sentimental, while Seth had to be the greatest prodigy his lineage had ever seen, it was the fact that he was the bearer of the Origin Soul that convinced him to act.
He had observed the entire interaction between Seth and Adam, peering through Seth’s link to his line, so he was aware of this status that Seth held, and since Adam was aware, he wouldn’t have to explain.
He’d just let the person with the most prestige explain, while he’d end up with a slap on the wrist...
The scene shifts back to the island lost in the raging waves of the sea, corroded by the force of the abyss that sank its vile roots deeper into the world...
The zone had spiraled into a status beyond Seth’s comprehension just because it interacted with divine energy and activated an instinctive defensive switch to evolve...
Elaine rode the back of a glowing bronze bull as they galloped forward through the woods, her dead army decimating the army of corrupted surging from the sides.
Though scant in numbers, each corrupted was of at least the defiled status, and while her frozen army had come far, they still weren’t up to par.
She had to support them actively by maintaining a mental projection of the ongoing battle, casting her support skills in timely moments, and letting the black ice fragments strike the moment an opening was spotted.
Elaine was exhausting so much willpower and essence at the moment, her head bulging with veins, her eyes closed as she held tight to her mount.
The soldiers behind her engaged the enemy as well, though on a smaller scale, some humans still died in the process, but their corpses weren’t left to waste, joining the frozen army to fight for the safety of those alive.
Elaine was unstoppable; she tore through the core, as she mentally acknowledged that her battle suit would soon reach a usable state, then she could hopefully contact other survivors.
Just as she was registering this thought, something bled into her mental scan projection, four unconscious human frames appearing out of nowhere.
One she couldn’t recognize but the rest she did.
Jack! Seth! Brandon!
