Chapter 380: We had No Choice
At the same time, back in the US...
Cain frowned, his lips curling downwards hard as he stared over the horizon, going still all of a sudden.
The officials marching behind him, escorting him to his convoy, froze, no question asked, they just stood at attention, wondering what might have caught the president’s eye.
Over on Cain’s end, his expression went grim as his brown irises flickered gloomily, ’Who could have breached the rule?’ he wondered, almost cursing.
There was a strict order in place, he was the only one allowed to remain here mostly to take over the responsibility of the emperor of the west, at least till the birth of another.
So why in the fuck would one of those old coots interfere for fucksake?
Even if it was only a trickle, just this bit of presence could be sensed by ’them’, and when that happened, humanity was fucking fucked!
So why in God’s name would someone breach this taboo knowing full well the risks?
For fucksake he was still dealing with the sudden loss of contact with the attack divisions, now he had to add this mess to his plate.
"Someone has to fucking pay!" he growled menacingly.
Cain’s expression turned cold, a gloomy, oppressive force burst out of his frame, as a golden mark began to glow on his forehead, his figure suddenly beginning to ascend into the air.
The soldiers watched from the side in awe and reverence as he rose, almost as though carried by the wind, their knees beginning to buckle.
No one knew what was happening, as a matter of fact no one expected the president to be this strong, everyone could only watch in stunned silence as a halo of verdant green coated his body, simmering brilliantly before erupting into bursts of sparks, the president vanishing from sight.
The officials glanced at one another in shock, what were they supposed to do now? Wait? Leave?
Cain’s vision flickered, the blinding mesh of space fleeting past his view, before the scene shifted, and now he stood before a grand temple sitting in a grey, murky zone of sorts.
The temple-like shrine having its great doors open, revealing the sight of numerous golden idols standing on separate platforms, each with burning incense lit before them.
The legendary Human Lineage Shrine... a mythical place so elusive even the modern-day human historians had yet to even dig up its traces.
A temple that held the living embodiment idol of every great human to have ever lived, and only those who had burning incense before them were still alive.
If one could dig deeper, one would find golden idols with cold incense...
Cain’s frame, not once making contact with the earth, blitzed right up the stairs and into the grand shrine, a low growl rumbling out of his throat.
"Who the fuck is responsible? Step out now or force me to investigate and feel my fury!"
If Seth were here he would be unable to even recognize the man that stood before him, cause right now not only was Cain’s frame ridiculously massive, bursting with an absurd amount of vitality, he also carried an air that transcended what Seth could even register.
He was akin to a deity brimming with ancient valor that spoke testament to millennia, there were very few who were older than him in this shrine, so it was no surprise he glowed with superiority.
One by one, illuminating glows burst in the hall, myriad chaotic auras flaring as one idol after another came to life, humans older than what the modern-day human could even conceive rising, turning Cain’s way.
Heads tilting, they observed his furious frame in confusion, most of these great minds had just been tending to their own business in their sub-realms till Cain’s rude awakening caught their attention.
No one had a clue what had just happened. Cain’s jaw tightened as he realized this, because the only person who could know what he was speaking about was the guilty.
Scanning the awakening idols, he spoke, his voice reverberating through the almost infinite shrine.
"Most of you must be wondering what is happening, if you must know, an asshole among you broke the sacred pact and meddled in the surface realm!"
The moment the message was relayed, faces went ugly, and gazes turned stony, everyone understood the severity of the matter instantly.
Who dared take such a risk?
As ancient beings with vast wisdom, they had to wonder what could motivate anyone to break the sacred pact.
Suspicion rippled through the hall as everyone glanced at one another, right beside Cain a 20-foot-tall idol burst to life, its eyes glowing with an ancient flicker.
For the first time, Cain’s face shifted into an expression that wasn’t fury or contempt, he bowed with a respectful, filial stance, "Greetings, Father!"
The shrine went silent as all attention focused on the towering being, Adam the progenitor!
Meanwhile Adam’s expression, animating into life, furrowed into a furious frown, his voice growling the moment his lips came to life. "WHOOO?!"
The voice boomed and reverberated, echoing through the shrine, every single soul in sight falling completely still.
How rare was it for Adam to get angry? He always treated them as equals, it was almost unheard of to see him exerting his superior influence.
By this point even the dumbest could understand that this was no joke, and everyone was genuinely curious. So who could actually do it, and why?
The silence held for seconds as tension began to build, and just when both Adam and Cain were at the point of erupting, two figures stepped forward, coming from the prestigious upper row of the ancestry platform, just beside Adam.
Huh? Two other progenitors were the culprits?
This was a joke, right? No, maybe they wanted to call the culprit out also?
Adam and Cain turned toward the two figures who had stepped forward, the silence deafening, as everyone awaited what they would say.
The Asura King glanced at the Grand Weapon Maester in surprise, ’Fuck! You stalled for so long I stepped forward to take the blame, if I knew you’d man up I wouldn’t have had to stick out my neck!’ the Asura King growled inwardly, unfortunately the old freak couldn’t hear him.
He sighed helplessly, now he had no choice but to back up the old fool openly, closing his eyes as he spoke with a pained expression, "We were forced to make the choice, we couldn’t lose him t-to such a trivial mishap!" the Asura King said, gnashing his teeth together.
And everyone went stunned. Couldn’t lose who now? And wait, did these two progenitor-level figures just admit to committing a fucking taboo?
