Chapter 378: Sealed Fate
A ripple in providence spread across the human race, as the bestowal of a new attribute settled, this might not be a binding trait, but it was an attribute nonetheless.
A new force of power now accessible to the human race, born from devouring the fey race’s providence.
Back on the isolated island, lost far out in the ocean, at the core of the now abyssal zone spanning the entire island and digging its claws into the ocean, as the dark tendrils of abyssal essence spread into the cold blue depths.
Right at the core of the zone, one would find an empty, grey, dead field, surrounded by a vibrant, dark cluster of green, cold wind howling down the skies as it flowed.
The air at the core was stiff, cold and dark as it washed through the frames of the only four creatures within sight.
A female and three men, lying unconscious in the dark patch of decay sprawled around them, their energy slowly being siphoned into the ground as they let out a steady flow of rhythmic breathing almost as though they were in slumber.
Faint, distinct whispers rang around them as a phantom of an ominous entity rose from their unconscious bodies, eyes burning like spectral lanterns flickering in the dark, as a storm of abyssal energy flared.
The force of providence settled in the frames of the humans, as their brains sparked to life, installing the racial access to the new attribute: Spirit.
The hazy frame of the entity flickered furiously, the dense mist of dark abyssal essence spiraling into a storm, as the entity let out a horrid screech almost like glass scraping on metal.
Its mental influence bolstered to an absurd degree, thick tethers formed between it and all four unconscious humans. The links spiraled like dungeon chains, sinking right into their foreheads.
The chains flickered erratically, squirming and digging deeper into the psyche of the four, their unconscious expressions shifting from peaceful to restless...
Sinking into the mind of Seth, one of the four, who began to convulse as his consciousness drew closer and closer to lucidity.
A glorious force pushed vigorously in his mind, giving him a level of resistance to the entity’s mental influence, so the moment the force of origin made contact with his mind,
Seth was able to use the opportunity to snap out of the mental illusion he never even knew he was in.
If Seth had any facial control he would have burst into a scowl, he had concluded that he was trapped in a spatial lock.
He had judged wrong... but therein lay the problem, he couldn’t recall ever falling under a spell, he couldn’t even tell whether his thoughts were his own or were currently being influenced by the entity.
’So terrifying,’ he thought, this charmed beast was truly a difficult foe to face, how could an awakened-grade creature be so strong?
With how overwhelming the mental wave he could sense was, it was safe to say this beast had mental stats that dwarfed his by ridiculous margins.
So much so that a title which was meant to counter any mental attack from those of the same rank was useless.
To understand how ridiculous this conclusion sounded, one had to recall Seth had the dual-class physique, he had double the stat cap attribute efficiency compared to those of the same level, plus he had already maxed his stats.
Leaving all digits within his attributes at 1998, plus his will was currently enhanced by 10,000 times!
Yet he was being totally outclassed when it came to raw mental attribute stats, not only was the beast eroding his will, it was fine-tuning a mental snare.
Seth was currently conscious yet trapped within the confines of his brain, the creature’s crushing mental flow sealing his consciousness and limiting his reach.
Seth honestly couldn’t understand how this beast could be pulling this feat off, it isolated his mind from both body and energy supply, and little by little it was eating into his mind despite the prominent glow of divine force illuminating his body.
The force remained useless as long as his mind remained locked, and worse, slowly and inevitably, his grasp over the weapon spirit seal was going loose.
And with the weight of will bearing down on his mind with such immense force, by this point his mental capacity and processing speed began to rapidly drop, as artery after artery erupted in his brain from pressure.
The influence from both the charmed beast and the weight of will almost smothered Seth’s mind to mush, though he struggled to hold on, it was all just too much.
By this point clarity had long become a luxury, the force in his body went wild while the ring on his finger burned with a ruby-red intensity, squeezing tight, as the previous uninterrupted connection it had with his will began to slowly fall apart.
The new attribute settled in, yet Seth’s mind lay vulnerable, the mental shell filled with cracks, the gleaming stars representing his connection to his gene skill remained dull, as his reach stayed isolated and constrained.
Seth wasn’t the only one plagued with both physical and mental agony, as the phantom frame of the beast exerted its influence with a furious drill.
Drawing from a boundless force that seemed to ooze endlessly from the dark cave that lay inserted into a hill right behind them all.
The zone guardian had been forced to abandon all its physical tethers, becoming a spectral entity that bore no use of physical attributes.
It now interacted on a realm that lay between the first and second dimension, a life form crafted from pure psychic force, allowing it to gain an absurdly high ceiling when it came to mental attributes.
This was a natural equation that compensated for its lack of physical attributes, meaning it could only interact with minds and not the body.
This was the only reason Seth and the other three were still alive, it had them snared mentally but had no means to straight up annihilate their bodies...
Well, that wouldn’t remain a problem for much longer, a resonance pulsed, as glowing, rabid eyes shone in the sea of darkness that lay beyond the field, dark hungry growls reverberating into the air.
As a suffocating presence of a powerful beast gathered in the air...
Even if it couldn’t harm their bodies directly, its subordinates could finish the job all the same, the monster’s burning eyes flickered ominously as a resonance of an ear-prickling, high-pitched screech rang.
At the same moment numerous beast forms pounced in response, all converging on the defenceless four...
