Chapter 374: Assault Went Wrong
The wind whipped like a raging wave with half of its force disseminating the instant it came in contact with Seth’s frame.
He tore through distance so fast, charmed beasts roaming the core couldn’t react to his peak speed as he burst past their frames.
And right behind him, hot on his heels like gum on shoes was the damned entity bursting with never-ending vigor, drawing endlessly on the flow of providence funneled into its vessel.
Crawling at the wind, and bursting right into a dense shroud of concentrated abyssal essence...
Seth’s eyes narrowed, right beyond this was the boss of this damned zone.
The cold rush of vile concentration of darkness billowing provoked a well of intense aversion in Seth.
But unfortunately, he had no chance to slow down with that creature on his heels, and the ever mounting weight of will bearing on his mind.
He didn’t have time to tally, he didn’t have time to process or analyze anything.
Just bursting straight through the shroud, feeling the tingling trickle of goosebumps rising all across the surface, his skin and his hair standing on end as he landed on the other side.
He was hit with a sudden wave of nausea as the reaction between the divine force emanating from his body clashed against the dense streams of abyssal essence raging in the atmosphere.
Everywhere went dark... not everywhere was dark! Seth corrected his analysis.
His eyes glowing bright in the sea of dark, the intense internal conflict with the abyssal essence constantly eating at his pores in reaction to the divine energy causing him to halt all sudden movement.
Well that and the fact that he couldn’t see being around three feet forward in a dark light deprived atmosphere.
Seth’s heart thrummed rhythmically with heavy beats, this situation was a dangerous one.
Right now he was in surroundings unsuited for him to battle in, though he used his mental scan to envelop the surroundings around him.
Due to the oppression of the abyssal essence, there was only so far his scan could reach, that aside most of his mental processing during battle was mostly primed to react with his sight.
What was worse was that not only was he in a severely disadvantaged situation but due to his body housing divine energy, there was practically no hope for him to stay hiding from the enemy.
Even the passive from his Darkness Avatar gene skill couldn’t cover the trace of divine energy orbiting around his frame.
A trail that would always be there as long as he was in a zone saturated with abyssal energy.
His ears twitched sensing distant movement, he frowned, his eyes locking towards the direction while he took slow steps backward.
Seth squinted, trying to curb his energy flow as much as possible.
By now that summon must’ve trailed right into the zone right after him.
Now, if he could make a temporary retreat to observe from afar, he could strike when he estimated both sides were at their limits.
Sure there were a lot of holes in this plan, uncertainty about the boss monster’s strength being outside the factors Seth could consider.
But he hoped at least both sides would be able to at least deal some level of damage to one another at least enough to make this easy enough for Seth.
He took another step backwards hoping to back out of the core region before the beast pounced, for some reason he believed seed guardians were restricted in their movements and couldn’t stray far from the seed...
Just as Seth’s mind wandered in thought suddenly a cold surge cursed through him.
Causing him to halt mid step, his instincts tingled and his lips twitched.
A wave of wrongness crashed through him, his vision swimming.
It was all wrong, his reaction, his calculations, something wasn’t adding up, it all wasn’t making sense.
This feeling... So familiar...
His pupils quivered, his back went damp.
"Fuck!" he suddenly snapped out of it, his vision abruptly shifted and flooded with dim light, but it was light nonetheless.
Sweat continuously pooled down his back, as his mind muddled slowly spurred back into clarity, a hot pungent rush of warm wind flowing from behind.
Seth stood frozen as a system message flickered into sight with a pixelating glitching effect.
[Warning! Warning! Warning!]
[Effects of Title: Charmed But Unfazed, has been overwhelmed.]
[Effects of Title: Charmed But Unfazed, has been restored, mental influence has been resisted...]
Realization struck Seth, he was affected by a mental attack?
How? When? His heart went cold as the chilling fact settled, he didn’t even realize when he fell into an illusion.
He couldn’t even recall, entering the core, was he in the illusion before or after he arrived at the core?
He couldn’t tell while confusion set in, Seth was forced to suppress all thought process and emotion, the moment he got a clear picture of his condition.
His mental wave rippled silently and his heart hammered against his rib cage, behind him...
Behind him was nothing but an endless maw of dark void... no not endless, just absurdly massive.
"This presence..." Seth hissed, wearing an unsightly expression, his mouth going dry as he realized that wasn’t a cave of any shape or form, nor was it an abyssal void.
It was merely the opened maws of a predator who believed it had its prey completely snared.
And Seth was half a step away from being swallowed whole.
Sweat trickled down his temple... his grip around his bow tightening as he made subtle movements, his body felt unresponsive as though his muscles had been forced into lock.
But slowly control returned to him, he remained as silent and subtle as he could.
Till now he hadn’t felt movement from the beast, he didn’t know why, and he didn’t care.
As long as he could find himself enough time to dig himself out of this mess.
But he still couldn’t help but wonder where was the entity chasing him all this while?
Was it dead? That couldn’t be... right?
If the boss monster really was strong enough to destroy that entity in one move surely Seth stood no chance.
This was an entity that repeatedly reformed despite being bombarded with extremely powerful attacks fueled by divine energy.
Just as Seth was having a serious deliberation of retreating, his mental scan picked up two signatures and his expression turned sour.
