Chapter 356: The Only Way Out
The spears converged with streaks of dull grey, small droplets of marrow corroding poison slathering in their wake.
The spider felt the attack before it was launched, yet due to Seth’s absurd space warping ability that never mattered.
The force of the tide rippled through the spears as it made an impact...
Heavy, piercing and overwhelming, these were the only words that could explain what followed next.
The raining impacts of spears gave the charm beast no relent, plummeting it straight into the ground.
The force of annihilation and tide raged, and mind-screeching noise tore through the plain, rattling the trees and causing even the confused evolvers at the side to collapse, ears bleeding.
Seth squinted in the dark of the shadows, as the soul-haunting sound tore into the shadow space, keeping him concealed.
But fortunately his defence could take it...
Seth refused to move his senses covering the entire area, he observed closely.
His sight pierced beyond the dust and debris, sinking into the cracked crater surrounded by crushed and pierced trees.
It didn’t take long for him to see it...
His mental wave washing over its body, he could feel its carapace, and could see for himself, aside from slight dents on its back and scratch marks marking its frame, the beast remained unharmed.
A jolt of disbelief shot through Seth, that didn’t make sense, right?
His spear attacks alone could kill the monkey defileds, powered with annihilation it could slaughter the even stronger and mighty shadow feline defileds pretty easily.
Yet upon this beast, powered by both his asura gene skills, it still didn’t die?
Seth felt goosebumps rise across his skin, it seemed the oracles never exaggerated.
Charm beasts really were impossible monsters.
The mind aching screech finally settled into silence, eight vengeful orbs of murky white lit up in the dark of the crater.
A chilling ethereal presence began to bleed into the atmosphere.
All eight of its legs like spears stabbed into the crusting, blackened earth, seared by annihilation.
The beast became eerily silent, its behind spitting out thick strands of white webs, carrying its frame upwards.
Seth squinted in the dark, a cold feeling setting in...
This beast was even more aware than Seth could have estimated.
Charmed beasts, they really were on another level both in terms of power and mind.
Seth could only imagine the willpower it took for a beast to resist the instinct to lash out after being struck the way it had been.
The monster didn’t roar, it didn’t cause mindless chaos in search of its foe.
Instead it went straight back to forming its webs in plans of covering the surrounding area.
This simple action of the beast showed three terrifying traits it possessed.
The patience of a vengeful predator.
The intelligence to process and form strategy...
And an incredible amount of self control and confidence.
"Not good, we have to leave now!" Seth whispered in the dark.
Taking on this monster wouldn’t be an easy task especially since he was all alone in this battle.
Uriel and the others had been trapped in a mental override illusion-type skill that manipulated their perception.
Not only were they currently useless, they would be a heavy burden, because with the monster’s sinister mind it would only be a matter of time before it started striking at the defenceless to draw him out.
They needed to retreat!
But therein lay the problem; escaping with everyone wasn’t realistic due to their current state.
And leaving them to die wasn’t an option either.
Seth was now stuck between a rock and a hard place.
His mind churned to its limit processing various scenarios and possible strategies he could employ.
And in the end there was only one way out of this, wield the divine.
Though divine items came with a cost, with it he could muster enough firepower to crush that beast, surely, right?
Certainty settled over him, and he quickly got moving, soaring through the sea of shadows, while his fingers twitched as divine sparks sputtered in their grasps.
Force Embodiment fully activated, the same time a shadow portal opened high up in the tree crown level and spat him out into the wind.
The spider halted in its motion, its mandibles clashing and letting out furious clicks as all eight of its eyes locked on Seth’s falling frame.
The dull, glossy white shade of the beast’s eyes flickering as it traced Seth’s frame warily.
The tips of its legs glowing, and its spinners pulsing and ready to engage.
When suddenly, a faint glow of gold flickered from Seth’s frame.
A heavy force that caused even the charmed beast to go stiff rolled out into the air like gales of storms.
A brilliant glow of gold swallowed the area whole, the presence of this new force causing the corrupt essence in the air to recede at a mind-boggling pace.
The spider charmed was left stunned by the sudden jarring turn of events.
Where did this power come from?
Dangerous!!!
It registered instantly, it abandoned its previous plans, all of its legs bursting into motion as it attempted to flee.
The beast was always a wary one, never striking or engaging till it knew it would win.
But facing something this scary, it didn’t dare tarry. The monster did not care if it had an existing malice towards Seth, nor did it care at the moment.
Dust was kicked up in its wake as it rushed into the distance, its high dexterity in movements showing as it snaked its way through trees as it fled.
The divine current ran wild and strong, and Seth noticed the force was unnaturally active almost as if the energy had a mind of its own.
It spread from his being constantly sucking on his essence and channeling it through the force embodiment gene skill like a filter.
Drinking from his reserves at a mind-boggling pace...
His veins bulged and glowed almost transparently from under his skin, his eyes flickered unsteadily as the force kept spreading, actively pouncing on corrupt essence like a predator meeting its natural prey.
Seth frowned hard, he couldn’t allow this to go on for long, and the moment the bow fully formed he did not hesitate in drawing on the string.
A glowing spear of arrow forming in his grasp, his will bloomed and his gene skill Absolute Weapon Resonance raged, amped by the divine flow it channeled, massive buffs into the weapon.
He could feel tens of units vanishing at each breath, but he channeled all he could into the weapon.
The quaking power of the divine weapon began to cause reality around him to warp and bend.
The sky directly above him was covered by a patch of gold...
Seth’s vision zoomed on the retreating foe, his pupils tracking its frame as it scurried through the compact field of trees.
His focus sharpened further as Absolute Weapon Resonance gene skill did its work.
His breath stilled, his muscles clenched, and he became one with the weapon.
Entering a trance-like state where he could see the best possible paths based on its behavioural pattern.
He tracked his prey closely standing boldly in the sky, slowly being painted gold, divine essence flourishing around him and his essence unit entered a countdown.
The rhythm of his heart calmed, he dispelled all thoughts, his mind going absolutely clear.
And then he saw it, the beast’s only possible path...
His eyes glowed bright. "Checkmate."
And with that he released the arrow.
