Chapter 34 - I reject
Silas grabbed the wine glass from the servant and joined in the conversation between the nobles. He chose the older generation because the information he got from them was more fruitful.
Not all talks were about politics as things would become boring fast. So he added jokes and interesting facts about mages to the mix.
He had ordered Ice-pick to make friends with the younger generation. She could pick up a few rumors fast. She was better suited for this task.
Slowly, music became more grand and the light in the ceiling shone brightly like a sun.
He stepped back from the social network and looked at the dance. He rejected an offer of a few ladies and laid back.
He looked around searching for a certain succubus.
Roland noticed his intent and pointed at the dance party happening in the middle of the ballroom.
"Over there, sir."
"Miss Eira seems to be enjoying herself."
Silas followed his finger and saw Ice-pick dancing with a young nobleman. Their dance was timid and felt awkward.
Based on the dance, everything was revealed to Silas. Ice-pick probably dragged that young noble to a dance aggressively.
And because of the restrictions, she was carefully sucking the young noble’s life force.
"Watch her." Silas ordered. He doubted that he would make things difficult for him.
The music intensified and the dance came to a wonderful conclusion. Silas clapped his hands.
It drained all his energy. He would rather face a thousand enemies than attending this kind of party. He had to look at himself and others.
He was exhausted.
’Why did those lout type guys like to attend parties that much? I don’t understand at all.’ Silas sighed inwardly.
"Everyone." Andile called out from the second floor, holding a magic crystal in his hand.
"I am here to announce the purpose behind the party. As you all know, we are here to celebrate the heroic act of Silas Viremont who helped the children of Floen from the evil hand of mage. Welcome him as I speak of his deeds."
With a pause, Andile spoke clearly. His voice was not hard or soft. It was not loud either but everyone listened. Some kind of magical feeling captivated their mind.
That was the charm of a political power.
Andile imbued mana into the magic crystal and it lit up and shot out a beam of light, aiming at the center of the ballroom.
Soon, a video appeared.
’They even have this? I never saw a video player in the game. Is this an invention that never shows up in the game?’ Silas thought and looked around to see people reaction.
Others were also in the same state of confusion as him. They held out their protective shield and braced for something, afraid of the attacks.
The only ones remaining calm were Andile and Silas.
Andile glanced at him with a hint of surprise and smiled.
Silas knew what the magic video player was because of his knowledge in such things.
’So, this is a recent invention.’ Silas got his answer with people reaction. ’Who invented such things? Did someone transmigrate the same as me?’
Silas rubbed his chin and contemplated. He never gave a thought about another person from earth. It was in a realm of possibility because of his existence.
Although, he didn’t care about changing the plotline but he didn’t want any other person to know about the future plotline. In the worst situation, that person would likely know the ending of the game.
The magic crystal produced a beam of light and showed the video of the lighthouse. It was heavily altered.
Silas saw him and Roland entered inside the cave, battling against the evil mage. The mage’s face was blurred.
Slowly, the color drained from Silas’s face.
’How did they get the video? It is practically impossible. We destroyed the lighthouse. Roland destroyed with his sword skill and Luna’s spells. I will check as well.’
Despite the fact that Andile held every piece of information about him, Silas didn’t dare to show any chance in his expression. He remained aloof and stared at the video in embarrassment.
As he evaded the video, his eyes met with Andile.
The head of Floen stared at me, noting every single movement of him. Their gazes met again, this time both showed their true self.
Andile’s gaze was cold. Even though, he knew that Silas had the information to reveal the wrongdoing of his family, he remained calm. That calmness was deathly for Silas.
Uneaseness spread across Silas’s back and crept and crawled into his spine, entering into his brain. He didn’t like the eyes of Andile at all.
He was too composed. But still, he expected that much from him, after all such temperament was well suited for the head of Floen.
Silas smiled at Andile and returned his gaze to the video.
Soon the video ended with him shielding himself to the children from explosion. It was a child fantasy made in real life.
’Haha. They even edit the video professionally. Maybe that is why the party take place after a week of the accident. They are busy crafting alibi.’
Silas nodded.
"Here is the strength of our hometown hero. I will reward him generously as a head of this town. Name your desire. I will fulfill with my name." Andile said in authority voice.
Eyes fell upon Silas, filled with anticipation.
What will he wish? Floen was a powerful family. Such favor was unheard of. Although, Floen was not a wealthiest, it was still in upper tier.
Silas opened his mouth.
Various noblemen and women gathered to listen.
Silas closed again. He appeared to think.
There was an underlying condition in the announcement from Andile.
If he accepted the proposal and wished for something. He was bounded by contract. Never speak of the lighthouse children and enjoyed the reward.
Silas won’t allow this. He won’t allow the death of many children to be gone underneath the dust.
Even if he gained the influence in the noble circle, such influence was trainted by evil.
He felt disgusted at the thought.
So he rejected.
He rejected the goodwill of the devil. He didn’t want to take no such part in the devil’s scheme.
"I am not worthy of such reward."
’Are you worthy of giving me an honor of hero?’
Andile’s eyes widened and formed a smile. A devilishly smile similar to Silas.
From today, the war between Silas and Floen began.
Either he died or he destroyed Floen.
Reason? There was no such things as reason inside his head. He just wanted to become the kind of adult his younger self looked up.
Silas also smiled back.
[Haha. Interesting. But careful, Viremont.]
