Chapter 19 - 18 Decisive Killing
The Lone Wolf knew that if he had the chance, he would have viciously killed those two. To think they described such a formidable enemy as just an ordinary bodyguard. Now, he was afraid he was going to lose his own life here.
Since they had concealed the truth and violated the code of the underworld, he didn’t hesitate. "It was Shen Zhe and Young Master Ji! They paid the Black Tiger Society to take your life!"
In truth, it wasn’t entirely their fault. They had no idea about the true extent of Ye Fan’s combat prowess, assuming he was merely a high-level enforcer. It was safe to say all three of them had been completely fooled by Ye Fan, who was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Ye Fan asked, "Where are they now?"
"Th-They’re—"
The Lone Wolf’s eyes suddenly turned cold, a final desperate plan forming. However, Ye Fan attacked first. With a slight twist of his hands, there was a sickening CRACK! The Lone Wolf’s neck was broken. Instantly, Ye Fan lowered the man’s corpse to the ground.
When he turned around, he saw Tang Yurou staring at him in horror.
"You... you killed someone!" Tang Yurou stammered.
Ye Fan gave a helpless smile. "So I killed a few people. What’s the big deal? We need to get out of here before the police show up and make things complicated."
"D-Don’t come any closer!" Tang Yurou trembled. As a successful urban businesswoman, she had never witnessed such a bloody and terrifying scene.
"It’s alright," Ye Fan said helplessly. "You don’t have to be so scared of me."
Almost in despair, Tang Yurou couldn’t even manage to drive the car steadily. Ye Fan was left speechless. "Where do you live? I’ll take you home."
Shaking, Tang Yurou gave him her address. Ye Fan told her, "Don’t be afraid, okay? These people were among the masterminds attacking your company. They’ve killed who knows how many people. You have no reason to feel guilty."
"But that was a human life!" Tang Yurou’s voice quivered. She was a kind-hearted woman and was naturally repulsed by a scene where lives were treated as cheaply as dogs’.
Ye Fan chuckled. "Actually, sometimes life isn’t worth much. I have a clear conscience about killing them. It’s that simple. If you had been merciful, the ones dying tonight wouldn’t have been them, but us."
Gradually, Tang Yurou began to lower her guard around Ye Fan. She didn’t even understand why. Though she was still terrified of him, she felt no need to be defensive, a feeling she had never experienced before. While her fear hadn’t vanished, her speech had become more coherent. She asked Ye Fan, "What’s your position in our company?"
This was an important question. She had specifically checked the company records and found no information on Ye Fan. Of course she hadn’t. Ye Fan was Su Qingxue’s exclusive bodyguard and fiancé; his name would never appear in the company’s official files. Besides Su Qingxue, no one knew.
So, Ye Fan smiled and said, "I’m the company’s Guardian God. Do you believe me?"
"No," Tang Yurou replied, shaking her head immediately.
Ye Fan wanted to cry. It wasn’t an exaggeration. He truly was the company’s Guardian God. Without him, the company would have fallen long ago.
After a difficult drive, Ye Fan brought the car to Tang Yurou’s residence. As a senior executive, she lived in a nice environment behind the commercial street of Jiangning City. The monthly rent here was at least twenty thousand yuan, but that sum was nothing to Tang Yurou.
Ye Fan glanced at the time, then at the still-trembling Tang Yurou. "It’s getting late, I should head back. Will you be okay?"
"Wait, don’t go!" Tang Yurou blurted out. At this moment, her heart was in turmoil, filled with nothing but an inner terror.
Ye Fan smiled. "Can’t bear to see me leave?"
"No, that’s not it! Could you... could you stay with me?" she asked timidly.
Ye Fan knew instantly what this meant. If a girl asks you to stay the night, she’s definitely hinting at something. No, wait. In this spacious three-bedroom apartment, a man and a woman all alone... this is more than a hint, it’s a blatant invitation! Such a strong signal made him start to feel restless.
For that reason, Ye Fan cleared his throat and said, "Ahem! I’m not that kind of person!"
He had to play his part well. Even though he desperately wanted to stay, as the mighty King of Heaven, he had to maintain a certain level of restraint. If his enemies ever found out that the great King of Heaven was putting on a dramatic act just to flirt with a girl, they would surely mock him. "Where is your restraint, oh great King of Heaven? Have you no bottom line?!" They would probably trip over themselves to spread the news. As the King of Heaven, he had bullied his old rivals quite badly, and they were all itching for a little revenge.
"No, I didn’t mean it like that! I’m just scared," Tang Yurou said hastily, afraid he had gotten the wrong idea. And in fact, he had.
So, Ye Fan could only say, "Alright, I’ll stay and keep you company."
And then... Ye Fan was in agony. He truly hadn’t expected Tang Yurou to relegate him to the sofa. He had imagined he might get to spend the night with her in the bedroom, but he had been too naive.
However, Tang Yurou hadn’t been asleep for long before she let out a scream.
Ye Fan shot up from the sofa and rushed into the bedroom. He found her pale-faced and curled into a ball in the corner of the bed, looking utterly terrified. He hadn’t expected this. It seemed the night’s events had truly frightened the poor girl out of her wits.
"What’s wrong?" he asked immediately.
"I... I had a nightmare." At this moment, Tang Yurou possessed none of the dignity of a high-powered professional, only the raw fear of a young girl.
Ye Fan quickly went to her side, wiping the cold sweat from her brow. "It’s okay, it was just a nightmare."
"Can you stay with me?" Tang Yurou was genuinely too scared to sleep alone. She knew full well that Ye Fan was a murderer, but right now, he was the only one she could rely on.
"I’m not sure that’s a good idea," Ye Fan said with feigned hesitation.
Despite his words, he was already lying down on the bed. Tang Yurou really wanted to curse him for his hypocrisy. Curled up in Ye Fan’s arms, she finally felt her fear subside.
She asked him, "Why are you so ruthless when you kill?"
Clearly, while she had a good impression of him in every other respect, his capacity for merciless killing filled her with a profound sense of fear.
Ye Fan said, "I don’t have a choice. If I don’t kill them, they’ll kill me. This world may seem peaceful on the surface, but it’s full of hidden dangers."
"You haven’t lived through those brutal times," he continued. "So you have no idea how harsh this world can be."
Hearing his words, Tang Yurou felt there was a deep profundity to them. Of course, all of this was completely foreign to her; she had never experienced such a brutal era.
Without realizing it, she fell asleep in his arms, sleeping soundly and peacefully.
Ye Fan himself was surprised at how much of a gentleman he was being, not making a single untoward move the entire time. The sweet fragrance from Tang Yurou’s body filled his senses, and at that moment, he felt an almost criminal impulse. Of course, a certain part of his body had already reacted.
In a sleepy haze, Tang Yurou murmured, "Why are you sleeping with your phone in your pocket? It’s poking me." Then, she drifted back into a deep sleep.
A phone? Are you sure it’s not a pistol? Ye Fan could only think.
Of course, that was a thought for another time. Ye Fan also fell into a deep slumber. Though he was the King of Heaven, he was currently using a mortal’s lifestyle to adapt to the mortal world.
