Chapter 592 - 590: All Things Considered, You’re the One Who Profited
An Imperial Guard stepped forward and roughly seized Arthur Jacobs from the ground. The man was incredibly strong, and Arthur, being just a boy, couldn’t resist at all. The words ’dragged into the Sky-Prison’ were the only thing echoing in his mind.
’The Sky-Prison? Why do I have to go to the Sky-Prison?’
Arthur Jacobs panicked.
"Let go of me... What are you doing? I’m the young master of the General’s Mansion! You can’t arrest me! Father... I want to see my father! Father, save me..." At that moment, Arthur Jacobs finally remembered the biological father he had angered to the point of fainting.
Seeing him still shouting and struggling, the Imperial Guard holding his shoulder frowned, his face fierce. When he spoke, he twisted the knife.
"The young master of the General’s Mansion? Still dreaming, are we? You don’t know yet, do you? Just a little while ago, the General’s Mansion had its assets seized and its family imprisoned. You’re the last one."
’Assets seized and family imprisoned?’
The guard’s words completely fried Arthur Jacobs’s brain. He felt a roar in his head as his eyes widened involuntarily.
"Assets seized and family imprisoned?"
His voice rose a few octaves.
Then, he stared wide-eyed and shook his head repeatedly.
"No, that’s impossible. You’re lying." He glared toward the main gate of the General’s Mansion. "Father... Father... Come out! I don’t believe it. Are you still angry with me, so you’re playing a joke on me?"
Unfortunately, no one answered him.
Standing nearby, Aaron Sinclair glanced at him, then lightly pressed a finger to his ear.
He muttered under his breath.
"So noisy."
His gaze swept over Arthur Jacobs as he spoke. "Stop shouting. Your family is currently enjoying VIP single-room service in the Sky-Prison, complete with a complimentary dinner. With such great treatment, you’re the only one missing."
’Wait a minute, where did I come up with this ’VIP single-room service’ thing? It feels like it just popped into my head automatically, and I even know what it means. I always seem to have these strange ideas. It’s probably because I’m just too smart, hahahaha.’
Arthur Jacobs glared at Aaron Sinclair, his eyes wide and blood trickling from his mouth. "You’re lying... You must be lying to me! How could the General’s Mansion have its assets seized?"
Aaron Sinclair sneered.
"It’s laughable that you still can’t face reality. More than a decade ago, your father took advantage of the real General of Cavalry’s severe injuries to poison and kill him. He then used the Poisonous Insect Technique to change his appearance and assume the General’s identity, which he has maintained until today. Now that the truth is out, the seizure of your family’s assets is inevitable."
"And then... there’s the matter between us. You’ve always said that I owe you, that I stole your identity. But what’s the reality? Back then, your family was being hunted by enemies. It was your dear father and mother who, out of pure selfishness, stole someone else’s child to die in place of their own son. As it happens, I was that unlucky child, but thankfully, I survived. Their actual son, however, was lost, his whereabouts unknown. To save face, your parents never announced their real son was missing. Instead, they passed me off as you to the outside world. This whole ’real vs. fake young master’ charade really screwed me over."
"When you were finally found, they decided to get rid of me. On the surface, they gave me a sum of money and told me to return to my hometown to live out my days comfortably. But in reality, your family secretly sent three separate groups of assassins to kill me, wanting to eliminate the problem for good and prevent the truth about the child-swapping from ever getting out. More than that, they were afraid that if I ever amounted to anything, I would come back and take what belonged to you, their precious biological son."
After he finished speaking, he raised his hand and gestured.
"Nate Alden, tell him. What is the crime for murdering a member of the Royal Clan?"
Nate Alden, who had been standing to the side, stepped forward and said coldly, "The murder of a member of the Royal Clan is punishable by the extermination of nine generations of your clan."
’Assets seized, imprisoned, and the extermination of nine generations?’
The words were too heavy. Even a boy like Arthur Jacobs knew what seizure of assets and extermination of nine generations meant. It meant his entire family would be wiped out.
Before he could speak, Aaron Sinclair said flatly, "Arthur Jacobs, you’re still young, so you might not understand what ’extermination of nine generations’ means. Here, let me explain it to you. Let’s go over which nine generations they are."
He began counting on his fingers. "Your nine generations include your paternal clan, your maternal clan, and your wife’s clan, all of them executed one by one. But if you think about it, you’ve actually gotten a good deal. On your father’s side, it’s just your immediate family. You originally had an uncle, but he died young. He never married and had no descendants. Your father has no elders either, so your paternal line is pretty sparse. As for your maternal clan, Mrs. Dawson is an only daughter. Your maternal grandparents are already dead, and you don’t have any uncles or anything. So on your mother’s side, it’s just her. A real pity. As for your wife’s clan, you’re only nine years old and not yet married. So, when you do the math, your family is actually coming out ahead. Not that many people have to die."
Aaron Sinclair delivered this with a perfectly straight face. His words sounded almost comical, yet no one could bring themselves to laugh. Even the onlookers couldn’t help but wipe the cold sweat from their brows, feeling a chill creep up their spines.
’Is this Young Master Heir a demon?’ the onlookers thought. To count out another person’s nine generations like that... This was the very definition of "one person’s crime brings death to the entire family." Since ancient times, the extermination of nine generations had always been a terrifying punishment, simply because it involved so many people.
The onlookers were terrified by Aaron Sinclair’s words. One by one, they quickly backed far away. From this day forward, they had a new understanding of the Princely Heir of The Warden’s Northern Manor. This was someone you did not provoke. He must never be offended in the future.
Though Arthur Jacobs fancied himself a chosen son of destiny, he was still just a boy. He was utterly terrified by Aaron Sinclair’s words, his face draining of color as his body began to tremble uncontrollably.
"No... I don’t want to die."
’Extermination of nine generations.’
At that moment, Arthur Jacobs truly panicked.
"I can’t die."
’I haven’t even risen to power yet. I haven’t stood on high for the world to look up to. How can I die so easily?’
The thought of being beheaded terrified him.
At that moment, Arthur Jacobs felt a sudden release from his lower body. His pants grew damp, and the sound of splashing water came from the ground. He was so terrified he had wet himself.
An onlooker gasped.
"He wet his pants."
"How shameful."
Right now, Arthur Jacobs couldn’t care less about having wet his pants. His heart was in a state of utter panic.
’No... no...’
’There has to be a way.’
’I’m the chosen one. I definitely won’t die just like this.’
’Right... the System! I still have the System!’
[System... System, are you there? System, help me!]
[BZZT... BZZT...]
Arthur Jacobs called for the System in his mind, but all that answered him was the sound of static.
This only made him break down even more.
He shouted out loud.
"System... System, come out!"
"Hurry up and save me... If I die, you won’t get anything!"
Just then, the System’s voice finally sounded in his mind.
[System is dead. If you need something, burn paper offerings.]
"System... what are you doing? Hurry and save me!"
"I’m about to die! What use are you then?!"
Arthur Jacobs shouting "System" at thin air drew strange looks from the surrounding crowd.
