Chapter 417 - 415: The Archfiend, You’re a Father Again (2)
This was perhaps the only truly uncontrollable event in his long, long life.
The Mysterious Ancient Mirror hovered in the air before him. Reflected in the Ancient Mirror was the woman’s smiling face, and her gentle voice drifted out. "Well... Surprised? Shocked?"
It was indeed shocking, and a situation utterly beyond his control.
After a moment of silence, he spoke. "He does look like me."
Celeste Grant smiled. "Of course our son looks like you, but his eyes and brows are mine."
He grunted in subconscious agreement.
Hearing her matter-of-fact tone, Javier Sinclair, on his side of the Ancient Mirror, blushed and averted his gaze.
"This is called a phone, and this is a photograph."
In the mirror, Celeste Grant didn’t just show him a picture of their son; she showed him a photo of their family of three. "See? I wasn’t lying! You recognize yourself, don’t you? This is a picture of the two of us."
’A photograph... So this is a photograph?’
Javier Sinclair’s gaze fell on the photograph in her hand. It showed a man and a woman in an embrace. The man in the picture was undoubtedly him, but this version of him had shed his usual cold indifference. His aura was gentle as he smiled down at the woman in his arms.
He slowly raised his arm, and the Ancient Mirror floating in the air descended into his hand.
’Taoist Companion... child...’ These were foreign concepts in the Demon God’s understanding. For a moment, he found himself wondering how to be a good husband, how to be a good father.
The moment the thought surfaced, he snapped back to reality, his ears turning red when he realized where his mind had drifted.
His eyes flicked to the marriage line on his wrist, and he waved his hand to make it disappear.
"Javier Sinclair, are you getting shy?"
"I think I saw you blush."
「On the other side.」
Celeste Grant held the Ancient Mirror, a smile gracing her eyes as she watched the blushing man inside. ’The father of my child... no matter his status, he’s fundamentally the same person he’s always been.’
Seeing him blush energized Celeste Grant. She gave a little smile and decided to tease him. "Don’t be shy! It’s just one son. In the future, you’re all over me, always wanting to do... well, things Taoist Companions do."
A voice slowly drifted from the mirror.
"Be quiet."
"Alright, alright! You’re not like this when you call me Lady Celeste."
"That happens in the future. Don’t confuse it with the present."
Celeste Grant smiled faintly, placing a hand on her lower abdomen as she gazed into the Ancient Mirror. She spoke softly, "My love, congratulations on becoming a father again. Even though it’s the future you who’s the father, the you from the past can be happy about it, too."
The moment she finished speaking, the man on the other side froze completely. His gaze snapped back to her, his face a mask of astonishment.
"Another one?"
His voice, deep and magnetic, carried a hint of shock. Seeing his stunned expression, Celeste Grant pointed to her belly.
"Yes! I just found out myself." She smiled. "I’m pregnant. I just don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. No, no... it must be a daughter. I have a feeling this one is going to be a beautiful little girl. My love, you always wanted a daughter. Maybe this time your wish will come true."
At this, she couldn’t help but sigh. "It’s just a shame that right now, The Archfiend—you—is in the Demonic Domain and doesn’t know I’m pregnant. Otherwise, if the you from my time knew, he’d be so happy he’d look like a complete fool."
’So happy he’d look like a complete fool?’
Hearing this, Javier Sinclair paused. He found it difficult to picture such a scene. He couldn’t even imagine what he looked like when he was happy. But he could tell from her tone that his future self would undoubtedly be overjoyed by the news.
He remained silent.
His eyes, however, stared through the Ancient Mirror at her abdomen. He had already found it hard to believe that he and this woman had a son in the future. Now she was telling him she carried another.
On the other side of the Mysterious Ancient Mirror, standing at the entrance to the abyss, Javier Sinclair seemed to have turned to stone.
WHOOSH—
The only sound in his ears seemed to be the rushing wind.
At that moment, he had no idea how to describe what he was feeling.
He raised his hand again, glancing at the marriage line entwined around his wrist. He traced it lightly with a finger. The other end of this thread was in the future—fifteen thousand years from now.
A son and a daughter... and a woman.
’My future... is certainly different than I imagined.’
In that instant, he found himself starting to accept the reality that he would have a Taoist Companion and children in his future.
As he stood there in silence, her voice came from the Ancient Mirror again. "My love, you’re practically petrified. I can tell from your face that you’re completely stunned. Haha, you should be happy! I have a feeling this baby is the little daughter you’ve always longed for. If it’s a girl, she’ll definitely look just like me. Don’t you think?"
’Like her?’
Javier Sinclair’s gaze rested on her face. ’If our daughter resembles her,’ he thought, ’she would be very beautiful.’
Now that she’d said it, he wanted to know too.
He slowly raised his hand, holding a finger up before his eyes. Closing them, he pierced through the veil of time and saw a vision. A little girl in a small dress was calling out to him. "Daddy... Daddy."
The little girl was beautiful.
She really did look just like her.
He snapped his eyes open, a hint of adoration softening their golden depths. An indescribable feeling washed over him, like a glacier melting in an instant.
’Is this... my daughter?’
Celeste Grant asked curiously, "What were you just doing?"
At her question, Javier Sinclair glanced at her, a hint of embarrassment on his face. "Nothing. I was just taking a look to see if you’re carrying a boy or a girl."
Hearing this, Celeste Grant’s eyes lit up and she leaned closer to the mirror. Seeing her face fill the Ancient Mirror in his hand, Javier Sinclair’s ears turned pink.
Celeste Grant pressed, "So, did you see? Am I having a boy or a girl? It’s a girl, isn’t it? A girl, a girl, it has to be a girl! I don’t care what you say, my baby is a daughter. My intuition has to be right." In truth, it wasn’t intuition. She just desperately wanted a sweet little girl who would call her Mommy and for whom she could make all sorts of little dresses.
Javier Sinclair didn’t answer.
Watching her go on and on about "a daughter, a daughter," he found her expression remarkably vivid. It was as if a splash of unexpected color had suddenly been painted onto his monochrome world.
"Tell me!" she urged.
He snapped out of his daze.
He was startled to realize he had been staring at her, completely captivated.
He subtly lowered his head, trying to hide his embarrassment.
Javier Sinclair gave a slight nod.
He spoke.
"I saw," he said. "It’s a daughter."
Javier Sinclair was the Demon God; learning such things was not difficult for him.
So when Celeste Grant heard him confirm she was carrying the daughter she had been dreaming of, her eyes instantly lit up. "Are you serious? Ha! I knew it was a girl!"
「On Celeste Grant’s side.」
She smiled, her hand resting on her belly.
