Chapter 126: Web of Plans Part 3
Inside Rynik's body, he kept going.
No hesitation. No change in expression. Only focus.
The system notifications stacked faster than before, overlapping in his vision until they blurred into a continuous stream.
Then, suddenly, the pattern changed.
A single line appeared, cutting through the noise.
[Congratulations Host for Reaching Category 10.]
Francis stopped.
Just for a moment.
The storm outside did not.
Lightning still fell. The tendrils still spread. The city still burned beneath them.
But inside, everything was quieter.
[Category 10.]
He read it once more, as if confirming it was real. He barely registered the other notifications. The ones about his skills leveling up passed through his awareness without meaning. None of it held weight compared to this.
[Reward:]
[Revival Stone x 3]
Finally, the coveted Revival Stone appeared before him.
Without hesitation, he severed his control over the beast body.
The connection snapped cleanly, like a thread cut midair.
In the same instant, he formed wings behind him and shot upward into the sky.
Wind tore past him as he accelerated, leaving the storm and the ruined city below.
Rynik's massive body, now without guidance, began to lose its balance. The structure shuddered for a brief moment before gravity took hold.
It fell.
The giant corpse crashed back toward the city below, its descent shaking the air as it dropped into the storm it had once been part of.
Francis did not look back.
He kept flying forward at a speed that, to the naked eye, looked like a single flash cutting through the sky. The wind broke around him in sharp layers, the world below reducing to blurred fragments of land and cloud.
Only when the city had long disappeared did he slow down.
He stopped at a mountain range hundreds of kilometers away.
The peaks stretched in uneven lines beneath him, quiet and untouched, as if the destruction behind him belonged to another world entirely.
Francis landed on one of the higher ridges.
The air here was thin and still.
For a moment, he simply stood there.
Then he opened his system interface again.
His gaze went straight to the item he had been waiting for.
The Revival Stone.
Three of them.
He studied the description carefully, reading every line without rushing, as if a single detail might decide everything that came after.
[Revival Stone]
Revives anyone who shares your bloodline. However, the user must personally retrieve the soul of the deceased from the afterlife to complete the revival.
Note: Due to the restriction in this world, you must first leave this planet before the Revival Stone can be activated.
He did not react immediately. His hand remained suspended in the air, as if he was still deciding whether the system had finished speaking or if there was more hidden beneath it.
"Leave this planet…"
He repeated it under his breath.
His gaze shifted slightly, not to the sky, but somewhere beyond it, as if he could already see the boundary being described.
So that was the condition.
Now he finally understood why the system had pushed him toward the remaining Kings, why every step had been structured around devouring them, why nothing had been left to chance.
The Kings' power wasn't the end goal. It was the key to breaking through whatever barrier held this world in place.
Francis stood still on the mountain ridge, the wind moving quietly around him.
Everything he had taken, everything he had consumed, it all started to align into a single direction.
Taking a long breath, he decided to move straight toward the next King.
Now that he had taken Rynik's power, something in him had changed. A faint connection lingered, like a thread pulled tight between distant points.
It wasn't clear at first.
Just a pressure in the background of his senses.
But as he focused on it, the feeling became sharper.
The closer he oriented himself toward it, the more distinct it grew.
ZZZZZZ!
Francis immediately used his innate talent and came to an abrupt stop.
A microsecond later, a beam of light pierced through the space directly in front of him.
His eyes narrowed.
In an instant, he knew he was being targeted.
Without hesitation, he activated his lightning element and shifted position.
Another beam descended from the sky.
Then another.
Then dozens more.
They weren't as massive as the one that had killed the Kings, but they were just as fast. Worse, the rate of fire was significantly higher.
The sky lit up with streaks of white as the attacks relentlessly pursued him.
Francis flew in a zigzag pattern, constantly changing direction to throw off his attacker. Every movement was calculated down to the smallest fraction of a second.
A beam passed close enough to graze his shoulder.
Another cut through the air where his head had been moments earlier.
The barrage showed no signs of stopping.
Francis's expression darkened. He knew he couldn't keep dodging forever.
No matter how fast he was, eventually a mistake would happen.
And diving toward the ground wasn't an option either. The atmosphere would only restrict his movement, making him slower and easier to hit.
For now, the open sky remained his best battlefield.
No wonder even the Kings had fallen to the orbital cannons. There was no warning, no travel time that could be meaningfully exploited. One moment the sky was empty, and the next a beam had already crossed the distance.
The only reason he was able to dodge at all was his extreme sensitivity to changes in temperature. Each time an orbital beam was about to fire, the surrounding air experienced a brief but noticeable shift. To most beings, the change was too small and too fast to detect.
Francis was different.
His senses had been sharpened to an absurd degree after absorbing too many innate talents. They didn't just enhance him individually. They merged.
An invisible field.
Within it, Francis could detect everything.
Vibrations moving through the air.
Shifts in wavelength and pressure.
Changes in temperature.
Wind direction, speed, and disturbance patterns.
Even the slightest irregularity in the space around him.
It wasn't a single sense anymore. It was a network of perception extending outward from his body, constantly mapping his surroundings in real time. Anything that disrupted that balance stood out immediately.
CRACK!
A bolt of lightning exploded behind him as he accelerated again.
The beams followed relentlessly.
Whoever was attacking him had already locked onto his position, likely using a supercomputer to predict his movements. At this point, the battle had become a question of speed—whether their calculations could outpace his reactions.
Unfortunately for them, Francis wasn't the type to rely on a straightforward strategy.
His back morphed.
The surface of his body warped as something beneath it activated. Black spheres formed and shot outward in all directions.
They detonated midair.
Dark smoke burst from the explosions, quickly spreading across the battlefield and swallowing the surrounding space.
The visibility dropped almost instantly.
The skill, taken from a beast he had devoured earlier, was simple but effective. It didn't just block sight—it disrupted tracking systems, breaking clean data into noise.
Within moments, the clear sky turned into a moving cloud of darkness.
Francis wasn't satisfied yet.
His body began to shift again, breaking apart at the edges as if it were no longer fixed to a single form. From it, humanoid figures emerged—winged constructs shaped from his own mass.
They had no consciousness.
No faces.
Only motion.
They scattered in different directions, flying through the dark smoke layer he had created.
Their purpose was simple: to disrupt tracking. To confuse thermal sensors and split the enemy's focus across multiple false targets.
Above, the response came quickly.
Beams of light shifted course and locked onto the decoys.
Several of them were struck mid-flight, erased in clean flashes of energy.
Francis narrowed his eyes.
So even deception had limits here.
He adjusted immediately.
More power flowed into the smoke layer, thickening and stabilizing it until the darkness became even harder for the tracking systems to penetrate.
At the same time, he continued sending out decoys.
More.
Faster.
Some flew under their own power, while others were hurled across the sky like living projectiles.
The orbital beams reacted to every movement, shifting course and firing after the false targets.
Francis watched carefully. Every fraction of a second between detection and response.
Only then did his wings begin to change.
The feathers split apart and elongated, transforming into twelve long black blades. They rotated behind him before locking together in a precise formation across his back.
A moment later, the entire structure snapped forward.
The blades interlocked into a massive circular shape hovering in front of him.
Electricity immediately began gathering at its center.
Arcs of lightning crawled across the surface, growing brighter and denser with each passing second. The surrounding air trembled under the pressure as an immense amount of energy compressed into a single point.
Francis's eyes remained fixed on the sky.
He hadn't been dodging all this time.
He was searching. Tracing the attacks back to their source.
The orbital cannons were hidden far beyond the clouds, but every beam revealed a piece of information. Every shot narrowed the possibilities.
Now, he finally had a target.
CRACK!
