Chapter 95: Ch 95: Peace Offering
"Miss Mellisa, please calm down. I know you are getting emotional, but it is not going to help you."
Someone placed a hand on Mellisa’s shoulder and pulled her back. That snapped Mellisa out of it and she coughed to show that she had calmed down.
"You are right. I need to take things easy. Getting angry won’t help me find Kora."
Mellisa slowly calmed down before she took her seat again. Her eyes found Rin again but instead of asking a question, she decided to give an order.
"You! Make the people of your settlement look for Kora. I want her found at all costs."
Mellisa demanded but Rin did not move to do as she had asked. He had no intention of entertaining her orders. The people of his settlement were busy enough without this additional workload piled on top.
His silence startled Mellisa and she immediately tried to increase the pressure on him.
"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and give the order. Hey, do you not hear me?"
Mellisa asked, getting more and more annoyed by the second. Finally, she got fed up and decided to walk toward him and grab his hair. He was ready for the pain, but the door burst open before Mellisa could touch him.
"Rin, I was looking for you. Have you seen—who are these people?"
Shelly asked as she looked at Mellisa and her party. Mellisa immediately straightened her back once she noticed Shelly and decided to turn her attention to Shelly
Mellisa tried using her skill on Shelly, but Shelly did not even give her the time. One second, Mellisa was activating her skill, the next, Shelly had jumped over the table and reached Mellisa before pushing her down.
No one had the time to react before Shelly pulled Mellisa’s hands behind her back and was holding her hostage.
"I didn’t like the way you were treating Rin. And you also tried to use your ability on me. What were you planning to do?"
Shelly asked as she twisted Mellisa’s arm behind her back. The angle was awkward enough to hurt and Mellisa immediately let out a startled yell of pain.
"Let me go. It hurts! You all! Help me out."
Mellisa ordered the people around her and her party immediately reacted. Even Teressa and Collin reacted, heading toward Shelly.
Rin felt compelled to help Mellisa to maintain the illusion that he was under her power.
"Shelly, can you let Miss Mellisa go? We were in the middle of a talk."
Rin gently persuaded Shelly but she did not seem to be in the mood to be coaxed. Still, she slowly pulled back and went back toward the sofa and sat beside Rin.
She clutched Rin’s arm and maintained eye contact with Mellisa, daring her to act on her impulses again.
Mellisa let out a sigh once she was free, but she was much more cautious dealing with Shelly from then on.
"Tsk, you almost killed me. How are you going to compensate me for this?"
Mellisa asked this question to Rin. She expected something in return for getting attacked but it was her own fault. Why did Rin have to give her anything?
"I am waiting. Hurry up before my temper gets the better of me."
Mellisa complained and Rin noticed both Teressa and Collin flinching at her threat. Her powers must be making them uncomfortable.
So Rin made a worried face as well and took out a potion to give her.
"I apologize for causing you distress. Here, take this healing potion as a gesture of apology."
Rin told her and Mellisa frowned as she reached for the bottle.
"What is this useless junk? Are you trying to poison me? There is nothing like a ’healing potion’ in the system’s database. Are you trying to trick me-"
Shelly grabbed the bottle from Mellisa’s hand and broke it onto Mellisa’s hand The cuts from the bottle instantly started to heal, showing off the power of the healing potion.
The people from the Girl’s Battle Frontier looked shocked to see such a miracle. Their shock surprised Rin in return and he suddenly realized that it was early enough in the apocalypse where such items have not even hit the market.
’Isn’t this...the perfect way to make profit? I can offer potions and enhanced weapons as rewards for cooperation from other groups and even push for an advantage."
Because Rin had been surrounded by extraordinary people, he had not even just how powerful his ability was. But being faced with outsiders made him think of new ways to use his powers.
Mellisa quickly gathered herself first and once the shock faded, her anger took over.
"What do you think you are doing? How dare you try to harm me? Do you think you will get away with this? Apologize to me right now."
She asked in an angry voice and aimed it all at Shelly. Unfortunately for her, Shelly did not seem to care.
"I’m not sorry. You were questioning the authenticity of this potion, so I decided to show it to you. Why would I be sorry for doing something you wanted? See, the potion worked perfectly. There is not even a scar left as evidence of what happened."
Rin did not realize it before, but Shelly was actually scary. She did not even blink when she smashed the potion bottle right over Mellisa’s hand and instead of apologizing, she was giving justification.
Somehow, Rin could imagine her killing someone with a smile and then giving justification for why he needed to be killed. And yet, it did not make him as unsettled as he expected.
Perhaps Shelly was the kind of person who could make him accept all parts of her.
"Y-You bitch! Ugh, I have never met a girl like you before. Is it because you grew up around guys that you decided to abandon your gentleness and decorum? What about your common sense? Did you lose that somewhere as well?"
Mellisa asked in an angry voice while throwing her handkerchief on the table. It immediately turned green after soaking in the potion.
Anyone could see that Mellisa’s temper was about to reach its peak, so the people around her decided to step in. Her caretaker immediately put a hand on her shoulder and guided her out.
"Miss, let’s have Rosa take care of the situation for us. You don’t want your elder sister to make fun of you for failing, right?"
That calmed Mellisa down a little and Rin had a feeling no one but her was supposed to hear these words.
