My Childhood Friend Turned Yandere in the Apocalypse

The two people followed Rin back to his office and he gestured to them to sit. Shelly followed his orders without wasting a second, but Albus needed a little longer to decide whether to follow the request.

Rin allowed him to take his time before he gestured for Shelly to hand him the fruit she had managed to retrieve.

Shelly happily handed the fruit back to him with a smile on her face.

Rin carefully peeled the fruit before cutting it into two parts and handing it back to the pair. Albus ate his part without thinking but Shelly tried to pass it back to Rin.

"I don’t need this. Instead, you should have it, Rin. Since you’re more fragile than I am, it can come in handy."

"It won’t help me, Shelly. Only those with the system quest will receive the benefit of this fruit. I did not receive the quest."

Rin reminded her. Shelly already knew this, but she must have felt bad being the only one eating it.

She frowned at his answer and decided to cut her fruit into two parts and give half to Rin anyway.

"I know that you said you won’t benefit from it, but it still does not feel good for me to eat it alone. So you can have half."

Albus scoffed beside her, taken aback that she had ignored him outright. Unfortunately for him, Shelly did not even turn to look at him.

Shelly was stubborn and once she got her mind on something, it was almost impossible to change it. Rin knew that, so he decided to give in to her current demands and take half of her fruit.

"Look, I don’t think that’s a good idea. I am not saying this because I am jealous, but because I care about your taste buds. Once you eat it, you won’t be able to enjoy anything else for a while."

Albus warned the pair with a completely serious look on his face.

It made Rin curious to try out the fruit even more. He wondered just how tasty the fruit was to make Albus say these words?

"Hey, just for the record, I did warn you about it. Whatever is going to happen is up to you."

Albus let out a sigh as both Shelly and Rin bit into the fruit.

Rin immediately gagged and spat the fruit out while Shelly ate it without any problems. The taste was...disgusting. Rin had never eaten anything worse in his life.

"What was that taste? How could you both swallow it without gagging? Ugh, I need water to wash this taste off. And maybe something sweet as well."

Rin’s face was green with disgust as he tried to control himself. But no matter how much he tried, that taste wouldn’t go away.

It even made the water and sweets taste worse.

"Well, I did warn you to not eat it. I swallowed the fruit without chewing so I am not as affected. But as for you...I am sorry to say that it will take about a week for the taste to fade."

Albus looked sorry for him and that made Rin forgive him. And Albus had tried to warn him...

"Shelly, are you alright? Was the fruit hard to swallow?"

Rin asked the pink-haired girl but her face showed no signs of disgust. In fact, she looked happy.

"I am fine. The fruit was not hard to swallow. In fact, I found it rather sweet. I could eat anything if it’s given to me by Rin.."

’Shelly...have some dignity.’

Rin wanted to shake her and tell her this. But the dreamy look on her face told Rin that it would be pointless..

"You both have worked hard. I doubt this settlement would have survived if it were not for you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you in return...within reason, of course."

Rewards were a good way to keep his people happy. It was also the perfect thing to help Albus lower his guard.

"Hmm, this is a tempting offer. What if I ask something too big? Like, wanting to become the leader of this settlement...not that I am aiming for it. The stress will kill me."

Albus quickly took his words back, but Rin was not sure if it had been a joke or Albus’s real feelings.

It was a good reminder for Rin to keep an eye on Albus’s actions.

Shelly was also looking at Albus and the dark look in her eyes made Rin flinch. Had he ever seen her look this angry before? Maybe he had, but it was hard to recall at the moment.

"I think it’s time for me to head back to my room. I would like to rest while the fruit does its work. You should go to sleep as well, Shelly. It will be hard for you to absorb the power of the fruit."

Albus warned Shelly before he left. Shelly looked like she had no intention of following Albus’s advice so Rin decided to interfere.

"Shelly, you should head back to your room and rest. You had a hard day running around and fighting the monsters"

Rin gently guided her toward her room, but Shelly still looked unhappy. Something seemed to be plaguing her mind.

She spoke up before Rin could ask her what was wrong.

"Rin, can I tell you my wish now? I want you to sleep beside me today. I just...don’t want to be alone."

That...should have surprised him. But somehow, it did not. He could even go as far as to say that he expected this from Shelly.

He should have told her no. But a part of Rin felt like playing along with Shelly’s request. However, he had one concern.

"Are you going to tie me to the bed again?"

"You don’t mind? Then, I’ll add that to my wish."

Rin felt like he had shot himself in the foot. He should not have given Shelly this idea. But it was too late to take it back and Rin did not want to see her disappointed expression.

’I can make a sacrifice tonight for Shelly’s happiness. Let’s just get this over with.’

It was concerning just how quickly Rin was adapting to being tied up. He no longer even flinched when this was mentioned.

He just hoped it wouldn’t become a regular occurrence in his life.
