"Darn it. You said that we should do this. Wasn’t the young master supposed to be an easy-going prey? What happened to that confidence?"

"Shh, the young master is usually a soft-hearted person. But he must be pretending to be hard-handed to teach the others a lesson. Once he has time to calm down, he will let us go. Just wait and watch."

"We should wait for the end of this task and then go for the sacred fruit again. That way, we can make an argument that we are not putting anyone in danger. Also, we will become so strong that no one in his settlement would be able to stand against us."

"That makes sense. Once we are strong enough, even the young master would be forced to beg us for help."

The criminals spoke softly to each other, but they were getting irritated with the situation as well.

They had been thrown in jail as soon as their crimes had come to light, but they had no remorse for their actions.

Instead, they were planning to get out of here and try to get the fruit of the sacred tree once more. They were busy discussing these things when the door to their cell opened.

It took them five minutes to notice and the more confident one immediately stepped toward the open door to check it out.

"Hey, see this? I told you that the young master was far too soft-hearted. He is even allowing us to get out of here."

"But are you sure this is fine? This feels like a trap-"

"Your mother is a trap. Now let’s get out of here."

They both carefully stepped out of their room and into the open space. Once they were free, they decided to run toward safety and keep their heads down.

Unfortunately, they did not notice the monsters sneaking up on them and were attacked. The monster knocked them down on their backs and they tried to use their powers.

But something sharp shot them in the side, causing their concentration to waver.

"W-Who...? Teressa? Why?"

The more confident of the pair asked as he looked at Teressa’s closed expression. He looked scared of her but Teressa only shot him again.

"H-Hey, what are you doing? Shelly, stop her...Shelly?"

They both turned toward Shelly, who was standing beside Teressa and begged for help. But the longer they looked at her, the more they were convinced that even Shelly was going to be of no help to them.

"I’m sorry, but are you asking me for help? I am afraid I have no intention of helping anyone who is causing Rin trouble."

Her smile sent shivers down the two criminals’ spines. They had a sudden realization that they had fallen into Shelly’s trap.

"Shelly, you-"

"It’s time to say bye. Don’t worry. I will make sure Rin does not feel anything for your death. You will become two more meaningless faces in his life. After all, I cannot have Rin worry about anyone but me."

Shelly flashed one beautiful last smile before the monster stabbed the criminals. It was a miracle that it held back for so long. But then it turned toward Shelly next and decided to try and go after her.

But Shelly immediately killed the monster with a bored expression on her face. Then she turned toward Teressa and spoke to her in a mocking tone.

"Well, I guess you are good at being a pawn. Keep up with it in the future and we won’t have much of a problem."

Shelly told her as she cleaned her knife with the criminals’ clothes.

"I might be a pawn, but you are crazy. I wonder what Rin would say once he realizes your true nature. Should I tell him-"

"Do you want to be next on my chopping block?"

Teressa did not even see Shelly move. One second she was standing in front of the dead body, the next, she had her knife at Teressa’s throat.

Shelly was threatening Teressa, but not even a hint of fear could be seen on Teressa’s face. Instead, her smile looked just as professional as ever.

"Oh! Do you feel threatened by me? But you should be careful about whom you make an enemy of. I am currently Rin’s familiar. He will know if anything were to happen to me. Are you still going to risk harming me?"

Teressa asked and Shelly frowned but pulled her knife back.

"Tsk, are you trying to test me-"

"No, I am warning you. You better behave in front of me if you don’t want your precious to know your true nature."

’I should kill her to shut her mouth. I should-’

Shelly had a lot of such thoughts and she would have acted on them as well. But the monster wave decided to arrive at the same time, causing Shelly to divert her attention toward that side. It made it easy for Teressa to slip past her and head to the defensive line.

By the time Shelly realized what happened, it was too late. Teressa had already escaped her grasp.

"Darn it! That crafty bitch! I will make sure to take her out when no one’s watching."

Unfortunately, such a chance was hard to come by and the task also kept everyone busy. Shelly got no chance to act and take her revenge.

The the system screen blocked Rin’s view of the papers in front of him. It immediately made his blood boil, but he kept his composure by taking deep breaths.

The system dropped more work on Rin, but this felt like something he should get more information about.

"The SOS lost something and you want me to find it? How do you expect me to find the lost item when you won’t even give me any information about it?"

Rin asked carefully. He kept his words even and curious, but not enough to evoke suspicion.
