Chapter 75: Ch 75: Defeating the first boss
’I need to keep stabbing. This bastard does not deserve to live. But my knives aren’t going through. I need more force. I need all the force I can get.’
Shelly’s mind was a mess. All she knew was that she needed to stab, hunt and kill the boss that had hurt Rin. All she could see was her target and nothing else.
Rationality? Who needed that when Rin could die at any second at this boss’s hands.

But it was not enough. Shelly’s sword still wasn’t strong enough to hurt this bastard.
Albus was also attacking from the other side, but Shelly paid him no attention. She barely even noticed him as she continued her assault.
The boss alternated between defending against her and defending against Albus and she could sense the boss’s smugness.
"Is this all? You humans are even weaker than I expected. Let me show you what true despair is."
The boss whispered before activating his power. Shelly felt her body begin to tingle and her system screen lit up.
[You have been affected with the status effect ’fear’]
Shelly did not have time for this. This feeling was nothing compared to seeing Rin collapsing in front of her or seeing a bloody hole in his neck. She refused to be affected or held back by this.
’Does this bastard think he can hold me back with these petty tricks after he tried to kill Rin in front of me? I won’t forgive him. I am going to rip him apart limb from limb and then present his insides to Rin in the form of a flower.’
[You have broken through the status effect. Your movement will return to normal.]
[A new trait is blooming inside you. You have gained enlightenment. Please continue gaining enlightenment to gain the trait ’Overbearing’]
[A new trait is blooming inside you. You have shown incredible skills. Please continue to demonstrate your skills to gain the trait ’Overpowered’]
Skills? Traits? They did not matter to her. All that mattered was that she made this bastard who hurt Rin suffer.
Unfortunately, this man was still speaking clearly.
"Humans are such weak and insignificant creatures. Tsk, just look at how they are struggling so much against me. Well then, shall I put an end to this?"
The boss was not able to move much due to the two support skills, but its movements were still quick enough to dodge attacks.
That was what the boss thought until it tried to get out of Albus’s next attack, only to falter.
"What the hell-"
The boss tried speaking but it was too late. Albus had cut a clear line across its chest.
Shelly instantly pushed Albus aside as she gathered her power to deliver the final strike. Her sword struck the boss directly in the chest, instantly killing it.
[You have defeated the Vampire Boss.]

"Rin, are you alright? Do you feel tired? Want me to bring you water?"
Shelly immediately pulled her sword out of the boss’s chest and ran toward Rin’s side instead. He was heaving hard and trying his best not to faint. But the strain on his face was deepening
"I can still stand for now. Reina, how is Teressa’s condition?"
Rin’s voice was barely audible but he was still insisting he could stand. His stubbornness was endearing but also frustrating.
Shelly considered knocking him out to knock him out. She could have Reina heal him later (although she did not like that). This was the only way to ensure Rin got some actual rest.
’Should I just do that? If Rin gets mad, I can try making an excuse. Or just tell him it was for his own good. He will understand.’
Luckily for Rin, he did not have to be punched to make him lie down. His legs gave out, and his body trembled.
Considering what he went through, it was a miracle he had been able to keep himself stable for so long.
Shelly had made her decision— It was too dangerous outside. There was no way she could allow Rin to keep coming out and risking his life.
But Rin was not someone who liked to stay inside. He would definitely protest and Shelly was weak against his pleading...
’Ugh, Is that the only solution? I guess I have no choice but to look into it a little more. For now I should...what is this bitch doing?’
Shelly reached out to grab Rin, but Reina was faster and helped Rin up instead. The look in Reina’s eyes made Shelly uncomfortable and her hands itched to tear the medic’s throat out.
"I think it would be for the best if no one else touches Rin at the moment. I will take a look at him once we get back in the truck. Let’s hurry."
Reina started to walk slowly with Rin over her shoulder. Rin leaned his weight against Reina, allowing her to half-carry him.
Shelly felt her insides boil and she tried to grab Rin’s other side. But Albus stopped her.
"Now is not the time to be stubborn. Let our doctor do what is best for our boss."
Albus commented and Shelly gritted her teeth in anger. But unfortunately, she knew he was right. Rin’s safety was the most important thing to her.
And she was not the only one who controlled herself with these thoughts.
__________
"Reina, you don’t have to carry me if I am too heavy. You can hand me over to Albus or-"
"Shut your mouth. You don’t have the right to speak after putting your life at risk. Don’t you know who would have to patch you up when you get hurt? Think about my feelings as well."
Reina rambled to hide her true feelings. But her thoughts wouldn’t stop racing. She felt terrified of losing Rin.
In fact, she had lost Rin.
He should be dead after having his throat ripped out, but he miraculously survived. But it did not help Reina’s anxiety.
Somehow, Rin kept getting himself in trouble every time he stepped outside. It hadn’t seemed like a big issue until now, but things had taken a turn for the worse this time. A small mistake would have been enough to kill him.
A small mishap could have been the difference between his life and death.
It was the kind of stress Reina didn’t want to bear, so she had a decision to make- should she help Rin prepare better, or should she make sure he never went out again.
