Chapter 217: Construction Workers
"Alright. That should be it." Abe put the last brick onto the outer wall of the monastery. Clean polished stone-cut brick that put an ancient feeling to this entire new structure.
This was the weirdest job that his company had taken. During the chaos of the Black Blood pandemic, suddenly a religion wanted to build a monastery.
The sheer idea of it was baffled to Abe. But he didn't care and he didn't ask question. He only wanted to finish the job nice and quick so that the money would go into his pocket.
The Bishop of this unknown religion was the handler that Abe handled with.
She was an incredibly beautiful woman. The Bishop was bizarre in some aspects and Abe always had a shiver when that woman looked at him. But he didn't think much of it.
After all, all religious fanatic was unstable in some way of another.
Abe could never understand how someone could submit themselves to an imaginary omnipotent figure. The new age scientists of Anglas had already proven that God did not exist. Only science was the future of this country.
Abe was not a scientist but he was proud to be a man of science.
"It is finished, boys!" Abe said.
The builders and workers of the construction raised their hands and cheered. Each held a different kinds of tools.
Abe stepped back to admire his handiwork. He might not be the best architecture of the new age style but he was the best in making ancient traditional structure like churches or monastery like this.
It was ironic that a man that didn't believe in God was the one that built the house of God.
The Bishop approached Abe in her black uniform and the large pointy Bishop hat.
'Heh. I haven't seen a religion that uses black as their main color before.' Abe thought to himself.
"Nice work, Master Abraham." Maria said.
"Please call me Abe, Bishop Du Manac." Abe said.
"Very well. You can call me Maria as well." Maria said.
"Is that a proper way to address a holy person such as yourself, Bishop?" Abe said.
"Don't worry, Abe. Our religion is rather... liberating compared to other religion. Our nuns will be preparing a meal for you and the workers. Consider it as a thanks for the construction." Maria said.
Abe frowned. "I just want to make it clear that we won't lower the payment amount in any way. My boys need to eat and feed his family."
Maria smiled. A seductive knowing smile that shouldn't be on the face of a religious woman.
"Of course, Abe. You will have the full payment and more."
The builders with their sweaty shirt and muscles arrived in the dining room that they themselves had built. The 'nuns' had been preparing a meal for them since early morning. They were preparing the dishes and cutlery when the builders arrived.
"Damn... These girls are wasting their life being a nun." A builder whispered to his friend.
The nuns here were all young, beautiful, and extremely graceful. All of them would have been great courtesans and caused a lot of men fell over head for them.
But no. They chose to follow a god that might not even care about them.
"You're right. It would be a shame seeing their beauty slowly eroding away by time." Another said.
"I bet I can bed a nun here." Some whispered.
"Don't you dare cause trouble. I may want to send my children here someday."
"Why? Isn't this just a place of worshipping gods? Why would you send your children here?"
"You don't know? Monasteries are usually a place of knowledge. They usually teach healing techniques and other secret knowledge that you can't find else where."
"Pfft. I would rather go to college or the Enthrall Institutes."
The nuns had finished their preparation. The builders went to their seat.
Then. The food came. Delicious, alluring food with smoke floating off them like dreamy silks.
A nun took off the lid to reveal the tasty roasted beef beneath. The whole bone was still inside.
"Woah? Meat? I thought nuns don't eat meat."
"Such nonsense. Our religion is not that idiotic. We believe in the natural orders of the world. The predator eats the prey. The killing to survive. The strong governs the weak."
The 'nun' arched forward and placed the dish on the table. Her curve fell into the eyes of the builders.
'Damn! What does these nuns eat? They look like women walking out from a painting.'
"And of course, the necessary and celebration of the union between man and woman." The nun's lips glossed as she whispered softly. It was too subtle to be received as a seduction but also suggestive enough for the men to think deeply.
'What are these nuns? They are even braver than the women in the city.'
And the feast began. The builders enjoyed their food as the statue of the goat-horned god watching over them.
The eyes shined bright red as the shadows of the builders were snatched away from them.
The monastery would require maintenance in the future. Instead of keep finding more men, Carter used this group as the builder clan for the Devil Church. Their families would look after the Monastery for generations to come.
In return, they would get whatever they desired. They only had to pay using their souls for it.
Carter opened his eyes.
[Synchronization +1.0%]
[Synchronization +1.0%]
[Synchro...]
Carter was equipping the Satan skin to acquire more Synchronization from the souls of the builder. There were forty-five builders in total, including Abraham, giving Carter an additional 45% of Synchronization.
'The builders are now mine. Now. Let's finish setting up this Living Monastery.'
[URSULA LEBEAU EQUIPPED]
Carter sat down and put his hand on the ground of the Monastery. Sickly green smoke rushed out from his skin and painted the ground of the area green.
The green smoke infiltrated the dirt, the walls, the church, the bell tower, the dormitory, the dining hall, and the very air of this monastery.
The builders were still focusing in eating, completely not aware of the green smoke filled the air around them.
A heart materialized. A hidden metaphysic heart that connected every aspect of the Monastery.
'It's alive!'
